Chinese drivers and American drivers would both be shocked if the arrived in Europe where prices well exceed those quoted above. In Britain a litre of unleaded fuel is over 1 pound or 11.23 RMB. Diesel is in excess of 1.20 GBP [13.47 RMB]. It all comes down to tax or subsidization. That is mostly controlled by the government, whether that be the Chinese, British or American government.

Um…your gas price averages are completely wrong. The average national price is more like $2.641/gallon. Gas hasn’t been that cheap for years.

Also, China is just as capitalist as America. Haha…remember its “socialism with Chinese characteristics”.

In the UK, the cost is as follows:

Total Cost = approx 90p/litre (9RMB)
Company Production Cost & Profit – 30p/litre (2-3RMB)
Government Retail Tax – approximately 60p/litre (6RMB)

Most of Western Europe have similar petrol prices, which means cars are 2x more fuel efficient, which is a boon to 1. the environment 2. the taxpayer 3. oil security

Lastly, industry and agriculture get their fuel without the paying most the taxes above.

I doubt the validity of their data – I travel all over the western half of the US for 6 weeks every summer, and I haven’t seen gas prices below $2/gallon since 1992.

Their data must be reflecting WHOLESALE prices, not retail.
