My suggestion. If there is no one you can depend on, your only choice is to force yourself to save money. Every month you get your paycheck, first repay a set sum, then use the rest to live.

Most Chinese I know insist that they are “immune” to the sort of crazy credit card debt that too many Americans build up. I guess this goes to show that the younger generations of Chinese are rather different from the older. Too bad, really. The older “save, don’t spend” mentality is better. Gaoshan makes a great observation, I think there is the phenomenon of “ka nu” (card slaves) in Taiwan as well. If this girl is representative of a new trend among the 80’s and 90’s generation, then there are a couple of tentative conclusions we may potentially draw about China’s economy:
- Shift toward a consumption economy in China. This is already widely discussed among the financial press and research crowd, consumption is about 70% of the US GDP but around 35-40% of the Chinese GDP. She is an extreme example, but if other consumers her generation continue to consume greater basket of goods and services, this will continue to drive consumption growth and overall economic growth, especially in light of flat export growth as US and EU demand is flat or declining. The latest retail spending growth data for example is above 20+% even as exports is flat to down and major commodities producers such as Chalco and Shougang experience fall in demand.
- Shift toward lower net savings and higher consumer credit culture. Again, this girl is too extreme of an example, and note that credit cards and the notion of consumer credit were nearly non existent even as late as the mid 1990’s. Chinese savings rate has been hovering around high 40’s to almost 50% rate, but spending on credit for such things as cars, houses, hand purses (for this girl maybe) may signify lower net savings rate. Would be interesting to see cross sectional data on savings rate and age…I would think the 80’s generation may have a distinct discontinuity in savings rate vs. older generations’ savings rate.
Both trends will only become more amplified as government spending on social welfare such as healthcare, social security, student grants, and other entitlement programs come into place. Lower savings rate would have profound implications for the Chinese banking system, which is awash in excess liquidity for the very reasons that people tend to save a huge proportion of income for contingencies, and that they have little other options to place that money (stock market is down and real estate is bust).

Idk, y i’m even posting here…I was in debt too once. I made about the same amount of money you do and had about 200k (USD) in debt.
1.You need to change your spending habits, right away.
2.Do not ask for help, it’s no ones problem but your own. Not to mention if you were to “borrow” money from your parents/bf/etc then you would still owe it anyway, right?
3.I’m guessing a good portion of that 60,000 is clothes, right? Sell them, start selling or returning everything that you can.
Your options:
1.Dont pay it, continue your spending habits, eventually credit wont be extended to you, you will be sad, and possibly facing lawsuits.
2.Sell your soul and turn tricks to get it paid off. I am kind of Not joking. I know a girl that did it. She owns absolutely everything she wants and paid for med school. But its kinda gross and I’m guessing you will develop some sort of complex about it afterwards.
3. Be responsible, try to get a raise, or a part time job. Make crafts sell them online or something. Save your money, decrease your expenses and spend the next decade paying off your enormous debt.
