The legal system requires a thorough clean up especially Judges. The recent cases goes to show how the law was twisted and abused by government and it’s organs to their pleasure. Unless something is being done quickly, the resulting situations on public order can be scary and dramatic in the long term. The people of China are no longer naive and or ill informed. With the opening up of China, there is a need for the society as a whole to open up too. This included the government at all levels and it’s organs. To continue to pretend (maybe they are naive themselves) and try to make the general public “swallow” garbage down the throat do not work anymore.

very light sentence for “rape”…it’s suspended, so basically he’s on parole for a year; real rapes would have resulted in at least double digit years, back in the 80’s, maybe even the death sentence.
China’s justice system obviously has a long way to go, if he was some corrupt official, this would have been hushed up…

I don’t think this judgment is strange, I mean in any legal system, people get sentenced by thoughts too, not just by action.
For example, if someone hit another person with a car, it’s an accident. But if that someone thought about killing another person then hit that person with a car, then it’s murder. Even with all of the physical evidences are the same, people do get different sentences based on thoughts.
So I guess he did the assault equivalent of rape rather than battery equivalent of rape.

When I heard people saying the sentence was too harsh, I thought they were going to cut off his balls or something, not give him one measly year of probation. Probation isn’t even a real punishment. It just means the cops will make sure he’s not stalking anyone else.
