I go to the gym a lot here – I’m by far not the biggest or toughest looking there. It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t hold my own in a ring – but I wouldn’t go so far as to say that any race is physically superior to any other race, especially in a fight..that is *ridiculous*.

As a point, when I was young (from Canada, not many black people) and went down to Seattle or LA, I’d feel very self-conscious and a little cautious whenever I saw a group of black guys late at night. They were usually far bigger physically, and more aggressive looking.

So when I made my first trip to Africa – Nairobi, alone, to climb Kili, I figured I’d be, once again, out of my comfort zone. Upon arrival I quickly noticed, erm..a significant difference between the Kenyans and who I had encountered in the US — they were smaller, in general, than me..maybe malnutrition. It doesn’t really matter, the fact is – perception about differences between race became non-existent. I rocked around Nai(robberi) where you “shouldn’t stay out after sundown”, and felt confident and happy..in fact, I met some awesome people, and any racial separation quickly disappeared. I feel way more racial tension in China than Africa, and have since been back a few times..one of my favorite places, with some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. It’s kind of strange that even with so much past (and present?) racism against Black by White people in the US and other parts of the world – that I’d feel so much more comfortable in Africa than China…regarding race issues.

In my experience, even though there’s no foundation, Chinese guys in general (not all by any means all) act inferior. This isn’t attractive to women. They don’t like dudes who act like bitches because they think they have something to prove to someone else or act seedy hoping to demean someone else without any real reason, and as a result, in general, white guys have a really easy time getting laid here. It’s not hairy chests or big dicks – there’s not a significant basis for those claims either (I don’t think so..anyways..not like I’ve seen a lot of dick haha), it’s attitude…and I have a feeling you are one of those dudes who thinks race is so important that you need to create a separation and argue it.

As far as the Regulate part, uh, well, it has nothing to do with who is causing trouble – when someone does something to harm or intends to harm someone else without justifiable cause, it doesn’t matter if it’s Chinese or what, it’s time to Regulate. There’s no “oh I can stand up to him because he is XXX race” – and I think you’ve drawn the wrong conclusions out of my story.

I think you’re reading too much into some of the comments. Of course, we only have one side of the story but that side of the story gives reasonable context for what happened. It doesn’t matter if you’re a white guy or not, it seems pretty normal to feel vindicated when you manage to fight off a group of anyone unreasonably giving you shit and wrongly trying to bully you. We’re all very well acquainted with those noxious stories of white people causing trouble in China with the locals, being domineering, arrogant, elitist, cocky, or “above the law” but we should likewise acknowledge that they face a lot of discrimination as well.

Judge the incidents according to what happened, not according to “white guy vs. Chinese guy.” Many of these problems begin when people value the skin of who is involved over the facts involved.
