China’s Richest Man & Gome Founder Arrested

Huang GuangyuOne of the big news this week that many Chinese are talking about on China’s BBS forums is Huang Guangyu (黄光裕) being arrested and investigated for manipulating the stock market. He is the founder and boss of China’s number one electrical appliances retailer, Gome (国美电器), which has over 500 stores throughout China.

He is also one of China’s richest men. In fact, in 2008 he was the #1 richest man with about 43 billion RMB (or ~6.3 billion USD).

A short English description of Huang’s history from BusinessWeek:

Huang’s is a typical rags-to-riches China tale. He and his brother began hawking radios and other electrical components from a roadside stall after he moved to Beijing as a teenager. He eventually built his business into the country’s largest retail chain, which he listed in Hong Kong in 2004. He is the company’s largest shareholder with 34%. Last October, Gome became the first Chinese retailer to team up with Dell to sell the U.S. company’s computers in its stores.

In 2001, mainland Chinese actress Zhao Wei wore a dress depicting the Japanese military flag for a fashion shoot for the Japanese magazine Bazaar. Once the photo was published, she immediately came under fire from the Chinese public where widespread condemnation eventually led to her apology regarding the matter. Fast forward to today, former “Super Girl” contestant Chen Yi (English name Rola Chen) recently became the focus of discussion in regard to her choice of posing scantily on top of the Chinese and Japanese Flag for a Japanese male-oriented magazine.

Shanghai Orient Shopping Centre Kappa Girl [NSFW]

A scandalous picture of Lu Jiani, the famous Orient Shopping Centre Kappa Girl.

From NetEase:

Orient Shopping Centre Kappa Girl’s self-made AV spreads on the internet–comparable to Sexy Photos Gate:

事情的详细经过

Detailed Course of Events

This girl’s name is Lu Jiani and she is a saleslady for Kappa at a Shanghai department store. Someone put a video of her “having a human exchange,” which has popularly spread across the internet. This video is about 22 minutes long, of a man and woman “doing something,” and in the video, the Kappa girl’s actions are “bold and amazing.” Right from the beginning, she appears naked…rushes towards the middle of the screen onto the man’s body, first a kiss, and then she opens the man’s belt and pants to begin giving him a blowjob. “Shanghai Orient Shopping Centre Kappa Girl’s” makeup is rather thick/heavy, skilled with her mouth, and is hard to tell from a professional AV actress.

Chinese People’s Secrets: Part 3

More translated secrets of Chinese people…

From Tianya:

环加驹:

My son had a fever and the kindergarten school teacher came to visit. I invited the teacher to have some water, and conveniently tested a drug [a powder that is added to drinks to make people want to have sex] I brought back from Japan, the drug was very effective.

柠檬小呆:

Once when riding the bus in my first year of middle school/junior high, I held my money [fare] in my hand but all along I did not give it to the lady collecting fare…all this time, I still feel like I should pay, but I forgot the bus’s license plate…

环加驹:

There is a girl next door. Every day, she stares vacantly at the underwear I hang out to dry. I cannot bear to let her suffer staring at my underwear every day, so one night I sneaked into her house, and left her one of my underwear.

Big Mao Zedong Statue Looks Like Deng Xiaoping

Huge statue of Mao Zedong that looks a little like Deng Xiaoping.

A medical school in China erects a huge statue of Mao Zedong on campus. Some netizens complain that the statue actually looks like Deng Xiaoping instead of Mao. Other netizens argue about whether the school should spend so much money building so big a statue of modern China’s founder.

From “Embarrassing, Chongqing Medical University’s Grandpa Mao statue looks like Grandpa Deng“:

This morning, through my cell phone’s newspaper service, I read an article that Chongqing Medical University had erected a statue of Mao Zedong on its campus. At 37.4m tall with its base, they claim the statue is the biggest in China, and of course, the biggest in the world as well.

This is absolutely a big hit, people still make such huge statues of Mao Zedong now! So I called the president’s office of Chongqing Medical University. The man who answered told me that the Propaganda Department might be the right place to get details. So I called the Propaganda Department and was told by a teacher from that department that they were not able to provide any information to me. The teacher said that they were not in charge of the whole statue issue, but that the office of Chongqing Medical University was.

Isn’t that strange?

Many Chinese media reported the United States presidential election results announcing Obama’s win and many Chinese people talked about it. Many Chinese were moved by Obama’s speech but of course not everyone agrees or thinks the same way. Although there are over 1400 Chinese comments right now just on Youku and many more on many other BBS forums, here are just a few:
