November 18th, unhappy with the government departments demolishing illegal buildings, a number of villagers from Hecheng village in Shiling county of Guangzhou’s Huadu district protested and blocked the demolition on a village road. Villagers placed covered hundreds of meters of the village road with glass shards, with gasoline-filled glass bottles and propane canisters interspersed throughout, hoping to use these to block demolition crews from entering.

In February of 2011, news spread across Chinese websites and BBS forums about cases of child kidnapping in Anhui province. These cases were a bit more brutal than what’s often reported in the Chinese media — in some cases, kidnapped children had been splashed with acid or otherwise disfigured to make them look more sympathetic as beggars — but the kidnapping of children is in no way uncommon in China, nor is it limited to Anhui.

In fact, tens of thousands of children — estimates vary — are kidnapped in China each year. Some, like the children in February’s Anhui case, are sold into lives on the street. Many are lucky enough to be sold to “adoptive” families who raise them as regular children. Still others, mostly older children, are sold into marriage, prostitution, or slave labor.

These kind of comments pop up every time a case like this garners major attention in the mainstream press, and while this case is around half a year old, you can rest assured that the next major case to break like this will elicit similar comments.

You can also rest assured there will be another case to break sooner or later. Independent experts believe that if anything, China’s problem with kidnapped children is getting worse.

Shocking murders in the Golden Triangle, over 10 Chinese sailors massacred

2011 October 5th noon, a Chinese ship (Hua Ping) and a Burmese/Myanma ship (Yu Xing 8) were hijacked by an unknown armed group. The over 10 crew members of both ships were Chinese sailors.

The location of the hijacking was the Golden Triangle between the borders of the three countries of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.

The unidentified armed group used guns to force the Chinese crew to increase speed sailing towards Thailand.

When the ship sailed into Thailand, they encountered Thai water police and both sides exchanged fire.

Afterward the Thai water police boarded these two ships. Apart from discovering a male body in the mess hall of the Yu Xing 8, there was no one else on the ships but traces of blood were everywhere.

Found on the ship were over 900,000 tablets of illegal drugs.

The Chinese crew were all missing.

Now bodies have been found on the Mekong River, with one verified to be the captain of the Hua Ping, with another being a sailor for the Yu Xing 8.

Both died very brutally, the captain with both hands handcuffed together, and two bullet holes in his abdomen. The sailor’s head wrapped with tape and innumerable bullet holes on his back. Another sailor’s body is currently being salvaged and identified.

A strange thing happens here. There is a cut to a camera which zooms in on Guo as she starts to cry. Guo dabs at her nose and rubs the discharge on her hand as if it were moisturizer. Because the cut is so jarring and not continuous, it might have caused some viewers to assume that the crying was an act.

Lang: You didn’t let her come out [to talk to the media], what was your thought process? Did you want to lie low or what?

Mother:I don’t know, I thought this stuff would blow over in a day or two…

Lang: A lot of things blow over in a day or two.
