November 23rd afternoon at 2 o’clock in Gutian county of Ningde city in Fujian province, in order to welcome provincial government leaders and the media, over 200 elementary school students temporarily suspended class, and stood in their school uniforms lining both sides of the county government courtyard path to await the government leaders arriving for a meeting. November 23rd evening, a high school in Chengdu selected 19 “top students” from around 4000 students to be recognized by the school and enjoy “best treatment”–having dinner with the principal. The “selection criteria” looked at the recent mid-year test scores, and the feast was paid for by the school. The school said on its official website that “several teachers in the office spent days preparing the “outstanding student representatives and school principal dinner party”. Finding an elegant dining location, preparing a menu suitable to the students’ tastes, organizing a fancy student reception dinner, they prepared a sumptuous dinner: 8 cold dishes, 21 hot dishes, 1 soup, and 2 small small dishes.”

The school principal said during the dinner, “Organizing this dinner party is to provide the elite students a chance to meet each other, communicate, and relax. What makes a school good or bad is determined by the state of development of its students. At the same time, I trust that in a few years, our school will become amongst the best and most beautiful schools, and you all will have been a decisive force.”

This recent interest in Nazi cosplay is likely inspired by such Nazi-themed anime and manga like “URDA: The Third Reich” which tells a story about Nazis using time-travel to change the outcome of World War II; “Kekko Kamen“, in which a naked masked superhero fights corruption at a school against such adversaries like an S+M-themed Nazi dominatrix; “The Cockpit“, in which it is a Nazi Germany that wields the world’s first atomic bomb; “Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade“, in which Japan is taken over by Germany at the end of WWII; “Kishin Heidan“, in which aliens invade Earth during WWII and form an alliance with Axis powers; and “Hellsing“, a manga about a Nazi group called “the Millennium” that relocate to Brazil after the end of WWII and become vampires.

Nazi cosplayers often don’t comprehend the historical implications of the uniforms they are wearing. When asked, they would respond with “We’re not racist, we just like the fashion.
