On the way to Beida Gynecological & Pediatric Hospital, I happened to witness an incident which I have videotaped.
Actually it was a straightforward incident, simply a confrontation between the owners of an Audi and BMW over something as trivial as a parking. However, after giving the BMW Guy a piece of her mind, the Audi Lady locked her car and left, leaving it blocking the entrance/exit.
As a result, no vehicles could get in nor out, including 2 ambulances (one of which was carrying a women in labor, who was finally carried into the hospital, leaving her relatives very agitated over the whole incident). Later on, the police arrived and the lady returned. When the police asked for her driving license, she became uncooperative, saying stuff like “Why should I give it to you?”. Thereafter, a huge quarrel between the surrounding drivers/crowd and her ensured. In the process, she even accused some among the crowd as people “lacking in character” and challenged them to “summon 500 more people here” (evidence in the video).
As those who visit the hospital are in need of urgent attention, I felt that her behavior was really too selfish and amoral. I’m not trying to blow up the matter here nor do I want to spark off another round of “human flesh search”, but rather to make a stand against such an irresponsible and amoral act.

I have seen first hand that “beat cops” in Beijing are often unwilling to take control of a situation when someone is behaving innappropriately. This woman has parked in an area that is illegal and shows contempt for the officer and uses vulgar language to those around her. Their are few places on the planet where she would not be taken away by the officer. Maybe she eventually did– the video doesnt show.
It’s a method of public education.
The officers just made her a negative example and only took her away after she fully exposed her own ugliness to the public.

Someone should have key scratched her car when she was inside, if everyone does that enough, people will learn they are not little Huang Di’s that can park anywhere they want. This is a really annoying habit.
I live in Beijing in an area still under development. There’s a huge population rift between the factory workers who have lived here for decades and the new rich moving into high-rises. These people frequently park their cars at the mouth of the road or on narrow sidewalks completely blocking everyone who wants to walk or bike by, and making tricycle drivers pull their carts up over the curb and move them across demolished brickwork.
In the last 4 months, I have seen the residents destroy 6 cars. Whoever parks in the magic spot will have their car beaten until it is moved. The mirrors are snapped off. Bricks are thrown onto the roof and hood. The windows are beaten in. The tires are slashed. People come by and rub sand and rubble into the paint job like sandpaper.
She was just parked in an area populated by cowards.

This is not as bad as an event that happened in Virginia (U.S.). A Chinese woman went to pick up her child at school because her child was sick. Unhappy with how the school treated her child, she decided to kidnap some random child in the hallway. After she put her own child into the car with her husband in the driver seat, she ran back in to the school and picked some random kid in the hallway and pulled him into her car.
A school staff saw what was happening and called the police. Now, she’s facing a maximum of 30 years in prision for child kidnapping.

Xuhua Huang, 39, is charged with kidnapping, second degree assault and false imprisonment. (Photo courtesy of City of Rockville) ROCKVILLE, Md. – A woman has been charged with kidnapping a kindergartener at a Rockville elementary school.
Xuhua Huang, 39, and her husband were called to Lakewood Elementary School on Tuesday to pick up their sick daughter. As the husband and daughter were waiting in the family’s van, Huang returned to the school.
Rockville City Police say Huang didn’t think her daughter was being treated well and decided to leave with a different child to test how the school would react.
The child’s father, Warren Miller, heard the news from his wife that someone had snatched their 5-year-old son from inside the school.
“It was extremely traumatic for all of us, frightening, we didn’t know for sure what had happened — if he was OK, if in fact he was at the school or if we were heading to an environment to find out even more devastating news.”
A school volunteer saw Huang trying to leave with the boy and followed them to the parking lot. Miller called her a true hero.
“She heard my son saying, ‘where are you taking me, why are you taking me, who are you?’”
Huang’s husband then yelled at her to let the boy go and the boy ran back to the volunteer.
Huang has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and second-degree assault. Her husband has not been charged.
The young boy wasn’t hurt and never left the parking lot, but the incident had people questioning the school’s security procedures. Rockville City Police Captain Mike England said schools are trying to keep kids safe.
“I think they do the best they can with the resources they have.”
Lakewood Elementary school officials say they are reviewing security procedures. Robert Hellmuth, who heads security for Montgomery County Public Schools, said Huang has been banned from school property.
“There’s only one parent that’s involved in this, and that parent was served with a trespass notice, that she can’t be on any MCPS school or else she could be arrested.”
Miller says he won’t send his son back to school until he’s convinced security has improved.

This is a municipal or law enforcement problem. It is quite easy to deal with road rage fools like this.
Why didn’t the municpality or the authorities put a sign there, if a motor vehicle is blocking the emergency vehicles. All vehicles will be forcefully tow away and the owner charged with the cost of removing it.

In the states her tires would have been slashed and a brick put through her window. In a less friendly area her car would have been rolled (happened in my hometown, when an out of stater blocked a boat launch ramp). I have a little bike lane outside my house and assholes always block the entrance with their cars. Locals have taken to stacking bricks on their hoods in protest. I think people need to be less passive aggressive when people in china are assholes with their cars. If people are worried their cars will get trashed if they do stupid things with them they will be more careful.
This is why China will never be a frist world country. People don’t respect the rule of law and neither do the institutions. People in China think if they have money and connections then they are above everything. In strong democratic countries nobody is above the law, not even the President or Prime Minister. No amount of money can buy you this amount of arrogance. Until China fully implements the rule of law and the respect of it by strengthening its institutions and removing corruption then you will have idiots like this. This is why so many Mainlanders feel the need to leave to go to Hong Kong or the West.

More than a few times I’ve been walking on the sidewalk and had a car behind me blaring its horn, as if he should go first. I’ve talked to Chinese students about this, and they say that they wouldn’t move faster or get out of the way either in that situation. Twice a car has actually bumped me on the sidewalk in an effort to get me to move out of their way, and both times I’ve given a roundhouse kick to their grill. They shut up immediately (I’m a really big guy).
