What car company was in the “woman pulls tow truck” video? I remember it was American as well. As many Chinese netizens already noted, very suspiciously viral marketing. It appears the underlying message Buick or GM is trying to push is that RICH MEN can afford to buy and drive Buicks. Hence, if you’re a Chinese guy and you want other Chinese to regard you as a rich person, you should buy and drive a Buick.
The Chevrolet Captiva SUV commercial was slightly less obvious, but you can accuse it of having underlying messages of trying to associate the brand with individuals being bold or not willing to take crap from anyone else. Or, of the SUV being powerful and rugged.
It is all pretty clever, but this latest one may be a bit too obvious. The tacky special effects in an attempt to make it seem like a netizen edit were pretty lame too, but ostensibly necessary to reinforce the “rich” message.
I have to side with the “it is fake” opinion. After all, most men buy their cars so materialistic women will want to copulate with them. I know most of the choices in my life are thus decided.
