Here is a video that was uploaded about two days ago. It shows a young man who drifts (漂移 = piao yi) with his small cargo delivery truck. Because it is a lousy Changan truck and not a fancy sports car, people say this is “shanzhai.” No matter what, he is very skilled and if you have watched the Japanese Initial D anime before, you will probably recognize the music in the video.

骚骚万岁:
This kind of car plus this kind of road and he can still play like this; niubi.
89476352:
Everything is good…
Except it is not so good to the environment.
Very niu, hehe.
宫保:
Drifting is not about how good the car is, but rather the driver’s skill. The video is not bad, very awesome.
y23ly23:
The bastard is really not bad, with this kind of car, tinkering by himself…I admire him.
咖啡因ㄣ:
Changan Automobile Headquarters
should specially make a Changan branded sports car for you.
You doing this has saved Changan a lot of advertising expenses.
I think if the Changan Automobile Company president were to see this
He should immediately contract you to be Changan’s spokesperson
I ding you
brother.
一百零一次埋伏:
If you ask me, he should show this video to some international movie company’s boss. I bet after seeing it they will find to film car stunts. With his skills driving a big fancy sports car, he will be invincible~! Foreign stunt men can all stand aside! If they do not accept, let them drive Changan and drift for me to see! Does everyone agree?
flyfancc:
Just wait, prepare for someone to come find you to make movies.
红色警戒N:
If you can drift, drift, there is no need to add shanzhai, because drifting is the common culture/phenomenon property of all humanity.
沙啊沙啊宝宝:
Go participate in WRC. This talented person is [otherwise] going to be wasted.
feng24316:
The whole thing is a real version of Initial D.
小志oo0:
He so has a future…even able to drift this car…
And what more, the background music is the Initial D theme music…
Him driving in the WRC would be even more frightening…do not waste your talent here…
干掉寂寞:
The drifting definitely is not bad! ~But it is 1:30am at night~and I see a lot of residence buildings around~so I do not know if those residents like watching you drift.
wujiansan:
So-called experts do not take a good car and drive it well, but take a cargo truck and drive it like…
卖单起哄:
If I was a director, I would find you to make movies, the Chinese version of Deathrace!!!

I think that the term “shanzhai” is dangerously close to becoming overused. If the internet community can show some restraint, and only use this term when appropriate, that would be great.
I dunno. I think of “shanzhai” being similar to “ghetto” or “shady” but shanzhai is actually a bit more complex of a term. Either way, it’s a cute meme. “Hurt feelings” is overused, but the jury’s still out on “shanzhai” for me personally.
Anyway, I thought this video was a bit more interesting than the two Buicks or the Shanghai street racers. As someone who has indeed watched a lot of Initial D, I thought the wheel-well strut/spring shots were hilarious. I guess it’s shanzhai because the video itself is like a shanzhai scene from the Initial D anime episodes.
BTW, does anyone else find it incredibly amusing that chinaSMACK often does this? One day, a post that thoroughly pisses off just about everyone and then, the next day, a silly post about a guy drifting a rickety truck in the middle of nowhere? It’s almost like comic relief.
Much needed comic relief.
Shanzhai is in fact a desperate way to put food on the table, and in the current crisis, the government has no option but to let the brand infringement go on.
I think you’re right.
It reminds me the Guizhou one, who is also pretty good. Is this the same guy?
Quite possibly. His plate is from Guizhou (Guiyang city).
Perhaps I’m just drunk, but this seems quite impressive!
Also, yes, shanzhai is already a bot overused I think….过时了, lets find a sexy new phrase eh?
This is actually what grassroots autosport is about. Fixing and driving. He should contact someone for a grassroots level sponsorship to drive a car in the next ADPO in shanghai.
I want to buy Chang’an truck now!
This is so hilarious! I never imagined I would ever see drifting trucks. It’s hilarious that this is played with the Initial D music and played in the same manner. It’s good to see something humorous for a change.
Maybe it’s just all part of the Chang’an viral marketing agenda to become a hip brand. A Shanzai version of Chevy’s campaign….
Well off to the Chang’an showroom to oggle the latest models and see about getting a spoiler for my drifting truck….
Thought that the start was a bit like Jaws/ lurking monster attack: peaceful village (unaware of looming threat) with cuts to the van cutting through the dirt, until…
Loved that Health & Safety was given due diligence in the intro (Lily Allen backing) & that enthusiastic taxi drivers were able to help out.
I used to think drifting is hard but when I tried to drift my clumsy Passat on the sands, I found it terribly easy, as easy as operating a bumper car.
i can’t imagine what the guy cannot do with a celica. considering the guy had to do this with the truck’s high center of mass and those lousy tires, he is a daredevil. and that honor goes to the people playing cards at 2:36 into the video as well.
That’s some Initial Dirt keepin it ghetto fabulous haha.
A country that has people like this driver is bound to become great.
Think we can take his claims at the start to have thought through the safety issues with a very large pinch of salt – going round that tree with a bunch of people sat eating shaokao just to one side was just one of the sketchy scenes :D
Some people just have a difficult time to grow up.
I don’t see what the big deal is. That’s pretty much how everyone drives in China.
I love how the night scene is preceded by a disclaimer that he has already “考虑好安全问题”, but in a later daytime scene he is spinning around a tree with women sitting just meters away.
Not to sound like an old dude but wasn’t it an idea to stop linking thise stupid videos? You do know that people will get hurt and die because they want to try these stupid stunts. Especially considering Chinese peoples general standard of driving and nuveau rich peoples tendencies to show off.
This is awesome! The Initial D music in the background especially adds to it, hahaha.
