8 Million RMB of Lumber Goes Missing After Confiscation

Over 25% of a confiscated haul of Rosewood mysteriously disappeared after being in storage for years. Law enforcers at the Haikou lumber checkpoint originally seized a total of 2090kg of the illegally felled wood just before export. However, with it only weighing 1980kg 2 years later after it was shifted “due to safety reasons”, the discrepancy was put down to “evaporation”. Even stranger, a further 3 years later just before being shipped to auction, it was just 1396kg, with the “washing-off of mud” being blamed this time. One netizen said the 8 million RMB loss was “clearly” down to hungry “mice”.

Isn’t it lovely how they paint a picture of obvious theft yet fall short of saying it’s anything but strangely missing.

    • Amused

They can’t say anything man. But morality erodes rather quickly from the top down doesn’t it? And I imagine a feeling of helplessness to change anything just accelerates the process.

  • Dolph Grunt

    Somebody’s got wood.

  • Jahar

700kg of wood is worth around 8million rmb? I gotta get me some of that wood.

    • bujiebuke

      LMFAO

      2000 – 1400 != 700

What was the last math class that you took?

      • Matt

        2090 – 1396 = 694 ≈ 700

        • bujiebuke

1980-1395 = 584. That’s closer to 600 than 700. Try actually reading the complete article, it’s only a paragraph long now.

          • Matt

I’m not sure which text you’re referring to, but the text I see doesn’t specify which time period the 8 million RMB covers. I’m guessing Jahar was also referring to 2090 instead of 1980. Anyway, I’d say this confusion is a result of these uselessly short articles more than anything else. Serves me right for breaking my tradition of not commenting on them.

          • bujiebuke

            That’s a fair point.

          • Jahar

There’s no confusion, he just hates me and wants to be insulting.

      • Jahar

God you’re a jackass. 2090 – 1396 = 694. This is how much has been explained away. The article says it’s worth 8 million. so 6kg more would be worth around 8 million. Again, you have nothing constructive to contribute, you just want to be insulting.

        • bujiebuke

As I’ve already acknowledged to Matt, it’s not clear from the article whether the 8 million could be attributed to the total amount of weight lost or from the last two weigh-ins.

This is how much has been explained away.

You mean to write, “This is how much weight that was lost in total”, right? I’m not making an effort to insult you, but your writing comes off as someone who’s still learning English or a retard who never expanded his vocabulary skills.

          • Jahar

700 is gone, it said what was missing is valued at 8 million. What else would I mean? Whether it is clear or not, you still came in hurling insults. Sorry I don’t live up to your elitist, arrogant, superior standards. We can’t all be as awesome as you. If you don’t like my writing, you don’t have to respond.

          • bujiebuke

Who’s “we”? It’s cowardly on your part to hide behind a curtain when someone calls you out. If you consider my comment to be arrogant, then you must get offended a lot when people correct your logical fallacies IRL. I ask again, how were you able to get a job teaching English?

          • Jahar

We? The people who speak English in the usual way. What curtain? I’m not hiding behind anything. And which logical fallacy?I made no logical fallacy.
That the change in weight was 700kg. I was right, and you were wrong. You just want to insult me, for some reason. You have nothing else to say, no other point. Admit it, troll.

          • bujiebuke

We? The people who speak English in the usual way. What curtain? I’m not hiding behind anything. And which logical fallacy?I made no logical fallacy.

So by using “we”, you’re implying that you represent all English speakers “in the usual way” (LOL)!

No, it’s not you’re right and I’m wrong. It depends on how you read the summary. How can you not see this? I just don’t understand how someone that writes like you can qualify as an English teacher…

          • Jahar

I’m not implying to represent “all” of anyone, but if you are so critical of my English, you would obviously be critical of people who speak in a similar way. But you’re not. Just me.

You are wrong because you called me wrong, and I was not. Is this so hard to understand? I don’t even understand how you learned to speak English at all if you are that stupid.

You were wrong to criticize me. There was nothing wrong with my original post, yet you don’t even have the courage to admit it.

You still haven’t explained what curtain you are talking about, nor what “logical fallacy” I made.

As for my job, most people in the world understand that the way people write on the internet is not an indication of how well they speak, or are capable of writing. On that note, your writing is full of grammatical errors, yet I say nothing. Why? Because this is a site where I come to talk about the matter at hand, not call people names like a schoolchild.

You really should stop acting like a petty child.

          • bujiebuke

Apparently you and your butt-hurt uncle mufasa don’t understand what “we” means, which is to refer to yourself and at least one other person. You can’t claim that you were speaking for yourself if you said, “we don’t like you”, it would be “I don’t like you”.

I don’t even understand how you learned to speak English at all if you are that stupid.

Why is it so difficult to understand for you when you’ve complimented me in the past?

So two, albeit hilarious examples where your writing just falls apart are:

            1. “You are wrong because you called me wrong, and I was not.”
            This is complete jibberish

            2. “You still haven’t explained what curtain you are talking about”
LOL you don’t know what a metaphor is

On that note, your writing is full of grammatical errors, yet I say nothing. Why?

It’s not that bad and what’s more important is that it’s still readable to most people. Further, I’m not the one claiming to be an English teacher am I?

You shouldn’t have to strain yourself to write clearly, even for the internet forum. This is further evidence that you’re not really fluent in English.

Rosewood is very expensive and heavily controlled around the world (it is used to make things like musical instruments). This is why it is auctioned and not just sold.
