In February, we first reported that Chinese netizens had nicknamed a beggar in Ningbo “Brother Sharp” after photographs of him appeared on the internet. The reason was because of his stylish and trendy clothes and the penetrating “sharp” expression on his face.  In early March, we reported that Brother Sharp was reunited with his family.

Brother Sharp is no longer a beggar. But what has become of him?

Here is the latest news about Brother Sharp:

From NetEase:

Summary: During the “May 1” holiday, Brother Sharp appeared a fashion show in some village in Shunde. A ~10 minute stage appearance, four times a day can earn him 30,000 yuan from the employing company. Before the first performance, Brother Sharp had stage fright. Only after comforting and encouragement from his family members does Brother Sharp hurriedly make an appearance on stage, his movements very cautious/awkward.

Summary of the news report above: First, the news report describes Brother Sharp’s dress and appearance at the fashion show, attracting many people’s attention. Some people take photos with him. Then after a martial arts show, it is time for Brother Sharp to make his appearance. However, seeing so many people, he becomes nervous and refuses to go on stage. His relatives convince him but he only stands in front of the stage but he quickly walks away.

The news report interviews two audience members. The first one, a lady, said she was still pleasantly surprising to see him in person for the first time but was also still a little disappointed. The second one, a man, said he doesn’t know if Brother Sharp was real or fake.

In the afternoon, Brother Sharp once again appears and finally goes on stage, walking back and forth a few times, waving awkwardly to the audience, never once changing his expression, and not in coordination with the other models. It is understood that he must go through a period of time before he will be formally contracted so whether or not he will continued to be employed will depend on his ongoing performance.

Comments from QQ:

疾风:

A tiger in the forest, is a tiger,
A tiger in a cage, is a large cat.
When Brother Sharp was a wanderer, he was a fad.
Now that Brother Sharp is no longer wandering, he no longer has the aura of a wanderer.
Brother Sharp without the aura of a wanderer, is the same as a tiger without its wild nature, now mediocre.

萧彩:

What’s wrong with depending on oneself to make a living? Those making sarcastic remarks can go to hell.

楠溪木子:

Some netizens have criticized that inviting Brother Sharp to perform “is even more cruel and detestable than watching a circus freak show.” I agree with this view.

李白:

If Furong Jie Jie can perk a butt, stick out a droopy and flat chest, and do similarly improper/inelegant action and make money, why can’t these people who cannot survive independently or have impoverished families come out and earn a bit of money? Who are they bothering?

内海:

When Brother Sharp becomes rich, please don’t tell us, as that is our wish as netizens.
When he suffers misfortune, please remember to pay attention to him, as this is also our wish as netizens.

紫砂@绿茶:

I will still ding! With such popularity, not using it would be a waste! This has more respect than wandering the streets being yelled at by people and barked at by dogs, right? It isn’t as if he is doing a bad thing!

轻风逍遥:

What we really want is for Brother Sharp to get a stable job, so he can survive on his own without being a burden to his family.

先知:

Brother Sharp, persevere. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to change your fate. Seize it.

一张白纸:

Furong Jie Jie and Sister Feng want to use shocking/ridiculous methods for promote themselves, but Brother Sharp was promoted by shocked people. Brother Sharp is innocent.

寳↗尐妃孓:

Brother Sharp should have his own self-respect, we cannot build our happiness on his suffering, so let him choose the life he wants to live, and we should all respect his choice.

回归宁静:

Brother Sharp, is this really what you want???

谷尘:

If he is no longer “sharp” within, how could his eyes be “sharp” [penetrating]?
Who was it that ruined this kind of “sharpness” within? It was you guys — ignorant promotional people!

以德唬人:

Actually, onlookers do not care how he performs on the stage at all, as recovering the self-confidence he had when he was a homeless wanderer would be the most niu, you guys~ Brother Sharp is going to be forced into becoming Brother Idiot, brothers and sisters,  be more benevolent, avoid saying bad things!!!

南域大王:

His family members want to exploit him to make money, businessmen want to exploit him to get rich, society wants to exploit him for entertainment, [I’m] so angry! Why not let him live an ordinary farmer/peasant’s life?

素素:

Anger, relatives that are worse than wolves and dogs!
What does he know about using money? He’s just being used as a tool for making money. The money isn’t going into his pockets.
When he was a homeless wanderer, where did these dog fart relatives go? To put it euphemistically, must being self-reliant rely on this kind of method?
