Divorce Rate Increases For 12 Years, Social Utilities Blamed

Recently the Ministry of Civil Affairs issued the “2014 Social Security Growth Statistics Bulletin”, revealing that 3,637,000 couples filed for divorce last year, thus marking the 12th consecutive year that divorce rates have increased. “Flash” marriages and divorces are also on the up, with Haidian and Chaoyang in Beijing being the districts with the highest divorce numbers. In addition to new laws making divorce procedures easier, social utility software such as Momo, which allows easy contact with strangers, have also been blamed. Some netizens didn’t want to divorce for their kids’ sake.

How about don’t get married to someone you just met at 23. Nah, that couldn’t be it now could it?

    • Bman

Or don’t marry the stranger that Mom loves but you don’t.
It’s true that people with options will sometimes take them, but singling out a silly little app thats been popular around 2 or 3 years; that’s just bizarre. Cuz people are just so incredibly filial, it must be an evil app causing all these divorces.
I’m just waiting for them to blame the foreigners…

Well technically our culture IS at least partly to blame.
Women here see Western movies and get these weird ideas about how maybe their man should be faithful and love them. Once these insidious Western ideas crept into their minds Chinese women weren’t as content to just stand idly by while their man fucked around with anything in a skirt that hoved into view as long as he provided enough cash to raise them family.
Which ups the divorce rate, so yeah….
        Our fault.

Yes, I wasn’t being sarcastic. Our love of freedom is definitely being analysed. And it will be dealt with.
But one thing I’m quite sure is that women here are far smarter than they’re given credit for. They know when to turn a blind eye, but they also know when to open their eyes.

I know I don’t give them a lot of credit, but I give Mao and his buddies full marks for bringing an equality to Chinese women that’s nearly or completely unparalleled in Asia and for that matter, most of the world.
Well, they’re gonna use it more and more as they become comfortable with it, and woe unto anyone in the way.

A big part of it is women having the financial ability to support themselves. They don’t have to marry someone to survive anymore.
