Group of 10 Form Professional Begging Team, Discovered By Police

Recently two women were arrested for begging on National Highway 104 in Shandong Province. The police were surprised to discover that the women were part of a professional begging team consisting of nine women and one man. The team strategically planned their scam, making sure they chose the optimum times and people to ask for money, even plotting their locations carefully on a map to avoid appearing in the same place twice to avoid arousing suspicions. In the 4 days before their plot was uncovered by police, the group managed to earn 6400RMB. Netizens claimed their daily wage was less than the beggars.

6400RMB in 4 days for 10 persons = $3.22/hour, based on an 8-hour work day. Not very impressive by American standard. Do some netizens really make less than that?

640 per person in 4 days = 160 a day = roughly 3,500 per working month, which is more than most fuwuyuan or people in similar jobs make in Beijing.

Pretty sure lots of teachers in state schools don’t get much more than that, and in smaller cities actually earn less.

        Is $500 (3100RMB)/month above average?

3,500 per month is lower than average (the average being 4,365), but it’s not that far off and is still more than people in many occupations will be earning (given that it’s more than 50% over the minimum wage of 2,020 per month).

For example, a restaurant near my apartment in Beijing is currently advertising for chefs, waiters, cleaners etc., and the only role which could bring in as much as 3,500 per month is chef.
