Japan Airs Rare WWII TV Drama Reflecting on China Invasion

Japanese TV station TBS recently aired a WWII drama that featured sympathetic content reflecting on Japan’s invasion of China. “Red Cross – Women’s Enlistment” tells the story of a Japanese army nurse serving at a front-line hospital. After she was incorporated into the Chinese army, she finally ends up treating “enemy” soldiers, during which she expresses thoughts such as, “Chinese and Japanese lives command equal respect”. Many other WWII related broadcasts in Japan this month focus on Japanese POWs and Hiroshima. One netizen asked in reply what all the Chinese anti-Japanese dramas reflected on.
