Japanese Government Purchases Three Diaoyu Islands, Already Signed Contract with the Landowner

The Japanese Government on the afternoon of the 11th held a cabinet meeting, and decided that from 2012 the national budget would allocate funds to purchase three islands from the Diaoyu Island chain (Senkaku Islands). According to reports from NHK, as of noon local time, the Japanese government has already completed signing the landowner’s contract, and formalized their nationalization of the Diaoyu Islands.

The Japanese government has put up 2,050,000,000 Japanese Yen, approximately 780,000,000 TWD [over $26.3 million USD], to purchase three islands from the Diaoyu Island chain (Senkaku Islands). In accordance with the cabinet’s decision, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has instructed Finance Minister Jun Azumi to begin allocating funds.

The Japanese government has decided to purchase the Diaoyu island chain’s Diaoyu Island, North Small Island, and South Small Island, which at present are owned by the Kurihara family of Saitama Prefecture. This afternoon, the Japanese government sent a cabinet official to sign a contract for the Kurihara family’s three islands, transferring all landownership rights, and formally nationalizing the Diaoyu Islands.

On the 10th, the Chinese Foreign Ministry made a statement indicating that the Japanese government has ignored stern complaints from the Chinese side, in announcing their purchase of Diaoyu Island, North Small Island, and South Small Island, and carrying out the process of nationalization. This is a serious infringement of China’s territorial rights, an affront to the feelings of 1.3 billion Chinese, and a serious abuse of both historical fact and international law. The Chinese government and people express resolute opposition and strong protest.

Diaoyu island and its surrounding islets have been China’s sacred territory since ancient times, with historical evidence and in accordance with the laws. The Diaoyu Islands were first discovered, named, and used by the Chinese people, Through the ages, Chinese fishermen have productively used these islands and their surrounding sea area. Early in the Ming Dynasty, the Diaoyu islands chain was already brought under China’s naval jurisdiction, as islands part of China’s Taiwan. The Diaoyu islands have never been ownerless/unclaimed, and China has always been the indisputable owner of the Diaoyu Islands.

As before, little Ma Ying-jeou just holds his telescope and says: We don’t recognize this contract!

菜瓜布:

Can we beg the Japanese people to buy Ma Ying-jeou?

李介豪:

The money we donated to help them with disaster relief they’ve now use to buy islands.

陳銘銓:

Using Taiwan’s 311 [referring to the March 11, 2011 Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami] donations to buy Taiwan’s Diaoyu islands! Unbelievable….Japanese pirates after all!

陳勢勳:

When we have a dispute with China we seek Japan and America’s help. Now when we have a dispute with Japan, we want China to deal with it. Talk about being fence sitters!

Mark Ho:

Those saying we should go to war and have the balls should go sign up and volunteer themselves.

Link Lin:

Taiwan has been too nice to Japan, donating 5,.7 billion TWD for 311, allowing the Japanese government to now save their earthquake disaster money, and have enough money to buy the islands~

Tsai Chin:

Actually, everyone already knows. No one wants to go to war. So all they can do is shoot off their mouths on the internet.

日堯果頁:

The Diaoyu Islands are China and Japan’s problem, and nothing to do with Taiwan.

What do you think?
