Now that the 2012 London Olympics has officially ended, one of the top trending topics on popular Chinese microblogging service Sina Weibo right now (at time of translation) is “One comment to send off the London Olympics” with over 350k mentions. Below is a small selection, translated into English…

From Sina Weibo:

The discrimination against Chinese journalists alone destined the London Olympics to infamy.

[Referring to a sign written in Chinese at the London Media Centre specifically targeting Chinese journalists asking them to ask permission before photographing staffers. Here is one Chinese journalist’s reaction written in English.]

More records were broken by referees/officials than athletes!

Farewell, Olympic Games, the event that people most anticipate.

[Note: This may also be interpreted as: “Farewell to the Olympics that has people most anticipating the next one.”]

London is very beautiful, the referees/officials were very lousy, China was very eager to be first, the referees were very feminine (I bet China didn’t invite those referees for the 2008 Olympic Games).

One must not be too London… good thing I’ve never liked London. No matter what the teaching material said (boasted), I’ve never liked it, and I wasn’t wrong about it.

Next time when you hold a major competition, don’t be such cheats/frauds!

The newest insult I’ve learned, “you’re so London!” [偷笑]

You’re simply a joke, but you can’t be blamed for it either.

A country that is currently experiencing a recession, that ran out of inspiration, where even a catwalk can be an act in the closing ceremony! [鄙视]

If you don’t have the ability to hold the Olympics, then don’t hold them, did you treat this Olympics as a the Olympics of Mistakes? And with such corrupt/lousy referees, did you do right by the Olympic Spirit? [抓狂][抓狂][哼][怒][怒][哼][怒]

I will not be too London in the future, but good thing this Olympics has ended, and good thing I didn’t watch much of the Olympics.

From this moment I feel the British Olympic referees and the Olympic Organizing Committee are all idiots. China could’ve been first in gold medals, but the UK used fixing in order to get third place in the gold medal rankings. [怒][怒][怒]

The over half a month Olympics have ended, all of the athletes are heroes, all have not had it easy [to get where they are, do what they do], regardless of whether it is defending champion Super Dan or withdrawing from competition due to injury Brother Xiang, all of them are our pride, and so many post-90s generation members were also exceptionally awesome! I’m looking forward to Rio!

Thank you, London, for the happiness/enjoyment that you have brought us… The Beatles, John Lennon, Spice Girls, George Michael, The Verve…Queen, James Bond, Mr.Bean… Happiness is the most important. [嘻嘻]

To steal Jacques Rogge’s assessment, I’m looking forward to the next one. [偷笑]

The London Games was as boring as taking turns squatting on the toilet.

The lousiest, the most ridiculous, the most stupid, the most boring, the most arrogant Olympic Games ever. I think it’ll also become one of the classic Olympics! The worst worst worst Olympics. [懒得理你][不要][不要][不要]

The concert they held was good.

I don’t care where they hold it, even if it is in a mountain village, I just don’t want to ever see it held in the UK ever again. [哼] [哼]

The most “I don’t know whether to laugh or cry” Olympic Games in history, where one would regret not watching it, but would still regret having watched it!

What are your overall impressions of the 2012 London Olympics?

  1. wow do people really think it was the worst olympics ever? I dont think so, I was in china for 2008 and in London for 2012, there are just different, China wanted to win, but they did not, so they lost face. Uk wants to win but they never will. Like someone said if China won, the games would have been the best. Where ever the games are the home team always do better. Suck it up get a bigger track team, get some better rowers , and you will beat the USA,
