Mitsubishi Refuses To Apologize To Korea Over Forced Labor
Mitsubishi is refusing to reconcile with Koreans who were forced into labor at their factories during Japan’s occupation of their country in WWII. Mitsubishi external board member Yukio Okamoto said at the time Koreans were classified as Japanese citizens, and so by law had labor obligations. Later, the Korean Foreign Office stated that the company should take measures to help the victims involved heal the wounds from the past. With Mitsubishi currently planning to give 100,000 RMB payouts to Chinese workers, one netizen said the issue lay with the company’s small market size in Korea.
