Shaolin Monk Defends Lifestyle, Saying “I’m Just a Person”

A Yangtze News reporter who went to the Shaolin Temple in search of Abbot Shi Yingxin to shed some light on the recent illicit allegations made about him stumbled across another monk who defended the modern behavior of Buddhist disciples. Many have criticized the temple for its commercial activities, but one monk defended its avant-garde stance by saying the present shouldn’t be compared to 100 years ago, and that although he drives a car and has a phone, he’s still just a person. One netizen said having a car wasn’t the issue, but driving luxury ones was, whilst another said monks are supposed to be “pure”.
