Tour guide draws knife on group, has license suspended

A tour group in Zhangjiajie who refused to buy what their tour guide recommended they buy were scolded, and told “whoever didn’t buy enough is forbidden from eating lunch”. The tour guide even drew a knife during one particularly heated confrontation. Because of this, the National Tourism Administration has suspended the tour guide’s license and his tourism agency was fined about 50,000 RMB. Chinese netizens believe that this punishment is not harsh enough, and that the National Tourism Administration should bear more responsibility because this isn’t the first time this sort of altercation has happened.

This does not make for good return business or word of mouth advertising.

The tourists give probs in other countries. The guide gives probs in own country. Maybe guidelines are not enough.

I went on a Chinese tour to the Great Wall because it was cheap. Never again. So many freaking stops (more time spent at stops then at Great Wall) and we were forced to see one kind of circus act and everyone was shamed into ‘tipping’ 10 yuan.
