Villagers Sentenced For Attack On Enforcement Officers
12 residents from Bajiazi village in Longtan who attacked bylaw enforcement officers for attempting to requisition land have been sentenced by Jilin Intermediate People’s Court. The incident took place on August 1, 2014, and saw villagers armed with knives, sickles, hoes and petrol bombs attacking officers who were setting up a cordon, injuring nine and killing one. Defendant Yu Zhongwen was charged with the murder of squad chief Shao Gang, and received the death penalty. The other defendants were sentenced to between 1 and 2.5 years. One netizen questioned if the officers had the right to requisition land.
