Woman Gives Up Seat For Mother and Daughter, Phone Stolen

Woman Gives Up Seat For Mother and Daughter, Phone Stolen

A woman who gave up her seat to a mother and daughter whilst traveling on a bus in Qingdao had her phone stolen in return. After getting home, bride-to-be Miss Yang discovered the device was missing. Thinking she had left it on her seat, she went to the bus fleet and consulted its CCTV recordings, which confirmed her suspicion. However, it also showed the mother stopping her child giving the phone which contained all her wedding contacts back as Miss Yang disembarked. Netizens were appalled, and said the negative impact on the daughter would be far more than just the value of the phone.

  • so hard to be a good person these days

Especially in China where the karma system has been proven time and time again to be bugged.

      • Amused

Well you can always hope the mother got cancer soon after :)

  • Bman

Obviously she thinks karma was on her side, presenting her with a pretty new phone.
Don’t you love it how ‘western’ people are painted as the social deviants. I mean, we have just as many issues, but things sure aren’t all rainbows and flowers over here~
I’m really surprised anybody would be organized or willing enough to get her CCTV footage.

    • bujiebuke

Don’t you love it how ‘western’ people are painted as the social deviants.

I’ve never heard of this stereotype before. I know “English teachers” in China are starting to have a bad reputation, but to my knowledge, most Chinese have a positive view of westerners.

      • Vance

One of the surprises I had when I first started perusing CS back when they translated netizen comments was the fairly consistent reluctance of the netizens to be overly critical of the US and other western powers. Even when there was an article pointing out something “bad” about the west, there were not a lot of negative comments towards the US and other western nations. There seems to be a great deal of respect for the US among them. They do not want to tear us down to their current level. They want to build themselves up to our current level. It is only the politicians who want to tear us down.

        • Bman

Yes, there’s a lot of respect and envy. But we’re also seen as very different when it comes to social norms and relationships. These views are often stated when some people want to seem as if Chinese have the moral high ground.

          • Amused

Yes, its very freaky and “open minded” to simply date lots of chicks before settling on one.
The accepted Chinese way being to marry the first girl your parents will accept, knock her as fast as you can, and then treat her as a non-sexual object from then on out while cheating on her with anything that moves as soon as you get any money.
And as long as you can pay for everything you’re a good man in both your and her families’ eyes.
Your wife on the other hand may be left feeling a bit unfulfilled.

Now this stereotype isn’t true of every Chinese man. But I’ve met TONS I know it is true of and about 7-8 I’m sure its not true of….

            “Damn dirty foreigners!”

          • Bman

Sad but true, and very succinctly put.
Try asking someone if having a good sex life is important to a marriage. The baffled look will be your answer.

Family approval, house ownership, correct age, employed are all requirements. Sexual compatibility isn’t even on the list. In fact, a girl who has any sexual preferences at all is a ‘deviant.’

        • bujiebuke

One of the surprises I had when I first started perusing CS back when they translated netizen comments was the fairly consistent reluctance of the netizens to be overly critical of the US and other western powers.

That was my impression as well when I first starting reading Cs back in the day. I thought it was also interesting that several members of Cs would continuously cherry-pick Chinese netizens comments to fit their narrative that Chinese hate westerners; it’s just not true.

          • Vance

Which is further evidence that the Chinese don’t generally hate westerners when a medium is made of cherry picked snippets designed to produce the opposite view and we wind up getting this impression. I guess I don’t blame CS cherry picking. They probably thought it would lead to a more interesting read and comments section if the translated comments were seen as opposing what they perceived was the general view of CS commenters. Besides,I thought they simply picked the highest upvoted comments anyways?

          • Alex Dương

Besides,I thought they simply picked the highest upvoted comments anyways?

Yes, the most upvoted comments were selected, and this was verifiable. So while cS did have the goal of showing that “we aren’t so different after all,” I disagree that the comments were cherry picked.

          • bujiebuke

            Vance and Alex Dương

            Here is what I wrote,

members of Cs would continuously cherry-pick Chinese netizens

It’s not Cs, the website that cherry pick comments, I was referring to members of Cs.

          • Alex Dương

Yes, sadly, some people cherry picked or deliberately distorted comments to fit their worldview.

          • Vance

You meant members of CS commenters? I had originally taken “members of CS” to mean members of its staff. Thanks for the clarification.

          • bujiebuke

See my reply to Alex below, I think you misread my comment.

      • Bman

Sexual deviants mostly. Just ask anyone in China what ‘open-minded’ means and they’ll tell you all about ‘westerners.’

        • bujiebuke

I don’t think that the “sexual deviancy” stereotype used on foreigners came out of a void. Anyone who says there are no western men who go to China to prey on women are in complete denial.

          • Bman

People got the idea from movies and TV. TV is sexualized and violent. I don’t think the majority of Chinese people have been chased by white boys.
And in regards to your other comment to Vance, don’t think I’m China bashing, nor do I ever China bash. I like China, and for the most part its people. But for fuck sakes sometimes the truth is just the truth. Not good nor bad, just the truth.
So I’m sorry that you hold some grudge against ‘westerners’; perhaps you’ve been hurt before by some handsome yellow-haired Caucasian with eyes of blue? But that’s still no reason to remind us that ‘westerners’ are all potentially hunters.

          • bujiebuke

People got the idea from movies and TV. TV is sexualized and violent. I don’t think the majority of Chinese people have been chased by white boys.

I think media plays a role as well as western predators that go to China to chase women. Certainly, it’s a stereotype and not all westerners are out to do this, but at the same time, it didn’t come out of a void. Sadly, it only takes a handful of people to do this, and it become perpetuated as fact.

Your clarification from my initial reply brings an interesting point regarding how the everyday Chinese view westerners. When I replied to Vance, I was not referring to you, but it seems you’ve taken it that way. You seem to rather have a flame war over actual dialogue and it appears the one who’s butt-hurt is actually you.

          • Bman

To clarify: I’m a white guy. You keep noting that many white guys are predators.
Sure, I agree with that. Many white/black/asian guys can be predators.
But, when you paint western men with a brush, you paint me as well. Just because you’re not saying it to me doesn’t make me forget it.
So I am merely asking you to stick your hatred up your ass.

And I’m not the first to say that.
Hence my belief that you have a painful butt.
            Yoda agrees.

          • bujiebuke

To clarify: I’m a white guy. You keep noting that many white guys are predators.

No, I wrote westerners, I never mentioned ethnicity or race. It’s troubling that you seem to equate western as white. I contend that some westerners perpetuate a stereotype by being sexual predators. Hence the stereotype did not come out of the void.

No where in my exchange with you did I imply that all westerners are sexual predators.

Nice job in making yourself to be overly sensitive hippy who’s incapable of having a discussion. Shove your memes where the light doesn’t shine.

          • Bman

The word westerner is practically synonymous with white in China. If you’ve ever lived in China you either know this or are skirting the truth to support your argument.

            Regardless:
To clarify: I’m a western guy. You keep noting that many western guys are predators.

You are implying that the entire Chinese population has been more influenced by some western predators than TV and movies. That would have to be a HUGE amount of predators to influence a population this large.

No where in my exchange with you did I imply you said that all westerners are sexual predators. “Many” was the word. Check dictionary.com if you need help with that. Also look up the word ‘discussion.’

Do people still say hippy? I always assumed that hippies were free thinking, peaceful, earth loving kind of folk. So yes, I love the earth and peace. Have you sufficiently labeled me or would you like some 8X12 glossies and a family history as well?

And who is being sensitive? Surely not me. I just like to pick on racists. Do I get a ‘nice job’ for that? Or do you still think that putting down ‘western’ people doesn’t qualify as racism because the word western incorporates several races and ethnic groups? I would argue that you’re just extra racist.

My meme is comfortably at home right where it is now. Up inside you, where the light sometimes shines late at night in the privacy of your room.

          • bujiebuke

The word westerner is practically synonymous with white in China. If you’ve ever lived in China you either know this or are skirting the truth to support your argument.

Ridiculous, my response was to you, not a native Chinese who might assume western = white.

You are implying that the entire Chinese population has been more influenced by some western predators than TV and movies. That would have to be a HUGE amount of predators to influence a population this large.

First, I never implied this and second, it doesn’t take that many people to impress upon a large population.

You are implying that the entire Chinese population has been more influenced by some western predators than TV and movies. That would have to be a HUGE amount of predators to influence a population this large.

No where in my response to you was this implied at all. You’ve accused me of painting westerners with the same brush when in fact, this is not true. Anyone can simply scroll through and read my comments.

I’ll reiterate what I wrote in case you missed my two other responses to you: That the stereotype of westerners in China as sexual deviants did not come out of a void. It has and still is perpetuated by a few westerners who go there and prey on women.

The fact that you’d rather throw childish tantrums using cheesy unimaginative internet memes instead of addressing someone’s comment speaks a lot about your own character.

          • Bman

I used that meme cuz its cute. I don’t like to be too serious about discussions. The fact that you do, and that you’re so angry, speaks a lot about your own character.

Furthermore, I’ve lived in China over 11 years. I know the stereotypes. Been there, done that a million times ten years ago. What you’re saying is just a tired old rehash of “bad foreign devils.” I’ve seen it sparked every year since 2004, and it always reminds me to be careful; that latent racism lurks in hearts that I wouldn’t understand.

And lastly, I have NEVER met a westerner who came to China to get chicks. Most of my friends are married with kids. And when I did meet the odd asshole who abused females, I was sure to tsk tsk and say bad things about it. In this country or any country. Perhaps you hang out in the wrong places? Brothels and bars? What have you done to make the world better? Despise westerners on the internet?

Perhaps you could learn a thing or two from the hippys. I suggest a trip to Hippopia to visit them in their natural habitat. Do some yoga. Smoke a spliff. Calm your inner demons.

            Cheers:~)

          • bujiebuke

I invite you to wait a few days and reread my initial response to you. It was an innocuous comment regarding a western stereotype in China. You’re response was to accuse me of being “butthurt” and being burned by “some handsome yellow-haired Caucasian with eyes of blue?”. Clearly that was an overreaction on your part and revealed how sensitive you are to your own perceived criticism. It’s interesting that your image of a westerner fits squarely with certain Aryan ideologies. Who’s the angry racist here?

And lastly, I have NEVER met a westerner who came to China to get chicks. Most of my friends are married with kids. And when I did meet the odd asshole who abused females, I was sure to tsk tsk and say bad things about it. In this country or any country. Perhaps you hang out in the wrong places? Brothels and bars? What have you done to make the world better? Despise westerners on the internet?

How can you profess to have NEVER met these assholes when in the same paragraph, go on to “tsk tsk” these same people?? It seems like you have and refuse to acknowledge that fact.

          • Bman

Because I’ve never met a guy who comes here to get girls. What I have met is guys who come here and then realize they are suddenly more attractive than in their home country. Hence the player comes out.

Thanks for the invite to revisit your old comments, but I definitely don’t care that much.

What I will say is you’re probably not racist. I mean, you do defend yourself quite well.

But I do believe you wanted to rile up somebody. That age old stereotype has been flung at me so many f-ing times that it does annoy me. “You’re white/westerner, therefore you are rich, American, and like to screw.”

And my replies to you were dam funny. I wouldn’t think I’d need to explain that I’m just having fun while giving my opinion. Me and my buds talk like that all the time. Apparently we are not buds, and that saddens me.

But I told myself I’m not gonna cry. Not this time.

          • Amused

Funniest thread I’ve read on here in a long, long, long time.

          • Bman

          • bujiebuke

But I do believe you wanted to rile up somebody. That age old stereotype has been flung at me so many f-ing times that it does annoy me. “You’re white/westerner, therefore you are rich, American, and like to screw.”

This pretty much sums up the problem. It was unreasonable for you to assume that I had grouped you among western stereotypes held by many Chinese. I made no assumptions about you. My argument was that these stereotypes are perpetuated by a few westerners but obviously not everyone goes out on the hunt. That was clearly not aimed at you and it’s striking that you would take it personally. My initial response to you wasn’t even close to being contentious.

I’m not sure why you’d assume someone half-way across the globe would understand your “bro-code”…

          • Bman

Lol, you’re not THAT stupid are you? As soon as you play the ‘western people do this’ card on China smack somebody’s gonna call you on it. You know that. So don’t pretend to be surprised, it’s not very becoming :)
Chinese people also get riled up when foreigners say “Chinese do this,” so that bro-code you speak of is pretty widespread.
Anyway, thanks for arguing. I’m just not as naive as the chicks you usually date.

          • bujiebuke

My argument was so simple that any 9-year old would understand: Stereotypes do not come out of a void. They are perpetuated at minimum by a minority. Is it fair to apply this to an entire group of people? NO, absolutely not.

It has nothing to do with the retort that “well westerners do this also…”.

Why can’t you address this instead of going on a speculative train ride with how I’m butthurt, your ideas of what a western dude looks like, ad hominem attacks, and cheesy internet memes. Who’s the retard here?

          • Bman

Ewww, you use that word? Mental retardation is not something to be made fun of. Shame on you.

“Stereotypes do not come out of a void.”
            True.
They come from people like you.
Got that part? Good. We’ll move on.

I agree, no it’s not fair. That’s why I called you on it. You’re being a prick.
Got that part? Good. We’ll move on.

If you’re not butthurt, just say so. Stop your whining. I’ll admit I was wrong. It does happen. I did consider that perhaps your butt is so, how shall we say this politely…flexible? Yah. Flexible.
Perhaps your butt is so flexible that it doesn’t hurt any more.

Are we finished now? I forgot what we are arguing about. But, it’s been a pleasure :)

Everything in bold are lies written by you. None of what I wrote imply that I was agreeing to the stereotype in question. You’ve either misread everything that I wrote or you’re being completely dishonest in order to fit your narrative.

Do you know what the problem is? It’s this:

I forgot what we are arguing about

            Yeah, GL.

          • Bman

Ha ha, that’s not a problem at all guy. I’m tired of wasting time on a useless topic. Rich vs poor; planned obsolescence; aliens; those things are more worthy.
You saying stuff and then denying you said it and, well…
I grow weary of such poo poo.
            Until we meet again…

            Cheers!

          • bujiebuke

Show me where “I’m saying stuff” and then denying it?

Given the example that you’ve set for yourself, I doubt you’re capable of holding your own in any of those topics that you’ve listed as being “more worthy”. You simply can’t even stay on topic! All your interested in doing is making a clown out of yourself with cheesy internet memes.

          • Bman

“Show me where “I’m saying stuff” and then denying it?”

            Here.
            There.
            In your underwear.

I tried to stay on topic. But then I felt bad because you’re a lonely guy, and if I continuously point out your ignorant, racist behavior you may reflect on your life and get depressed. So when people like you want to argue just a little too much I really worry you have nothing to do outside of pointless internet comments, and , well, I am a very sympathetic guy, so I try to do a ‘No no, it’s me, not you.’ But in the end it’s the same result.

I’m sorry, really, but you need to accept it this time:

I’M BREAKING UP WITH YOU. PLEASE MOVE ON.

Sorry for the shouting baby. I’ll miss you…

          • bujiebuke

            racist behavior

so I’m a “racist” again? What ever happened to:

What I will say is you’re probably not racist.

People like me? You mean rational people with solid critical thinking skills who can can stay focused for more than 5 minutes? People like me have accomplished more in the past 8 years than you will ever have in your lifetime, that’s just fact.

            People like you:
            1. Can’t handle criticism or ever admit that they’re wrong
            2. Can’t formulate an argument, so pull out unimaginative memes
            3. Accuse others of racist despite contrary statements
            4. Thinks of themselves as a rebel without a cause by wearing alt. duchy clothing; In realty just an idiot without a clue.

          • Alex Dương

I think points 1 through 3 are fair. Point 4, eh.

          • bujiebuke

LOL, I felt like there needed to be a 4th point as a clincher.

          • Bman

            LMAo…oh…dude…give it up man…

I was being nice to you before, cuz I felt bad for you. You seemed like you really cared about your arguments, as wrong as they are.
But you’re just a prick it seems.
            So, yah, I think you’re a racist.

            People like you:
            1. Can’t handle criticism or ever admit that they’re wrong
            2. Can’t formulate a defense to their wrongs, so they continuously change the subject
            3. Don’t seem to accomplish anything.
            4. Think of themselves as a caped crusader with a cause; to annoy and confuse.

            5. Are latent fashion experts about people they’ve never seen.
            6. Don’t know when to let it go.

            Paranoia will destroy ya!

Surprise, surprise… you just plagiarized my writing – this is consistent with my contention that you’re unimaginative and have no idea what you’re talking about. Anyone who has followed this thread (I feel sorry for anyone who does) will see what a bold-faced liar you are.

I haven’t changed the subject, not once. I’ve repeated my argument nearly verbatim, yet you ignore them time after time.

The real issue is that you took my initial comment as a personal affront to you and lashed out like a child would when he’s told that he did something wrong. Your only counter argument was to accuse me of being a racist for simply disagreeing with you. Show me what I wrote that could be construed as a racist comment?

I was being nice to you before, cuz I felt bad for you.

What is your definition of being “nice”? Backhanded complements with accusations of racism and name calling? Let me guess, this is how you and your “bros” treat each other.

It’s not just from TV and movies. Lots of western guys get lots of girls in China(at home as well, but they don’t see that). They aren’t used to seeing it. The relationships here are usually “start dating to get married,” So when they see us act the way we do in bars and whatnot, they think it’s terrible. Lots of Chinese guys do the same, but they don’t stand out in a crowd the way we do. Same as Uighurs being thieves. Someone looks different, you make more notice of their unusual behavior, and you start to associate it with their looks.

          • Bman

Coupled with a strong undercurrent of ‘be careful of the foreigners.’ The wu maos do an incredible job here of seeding mistrust and an ‘us against them mentality.’
But that’s what happens when you can’t gain loyalty by being loved. You gain it by spreading fear of an enemy.
