42-year-old Sun BingJing was convicted of “instigating dispute” and sentenced to 14 months in prison for throwing a bottle of ink at the famous portrait of Chairman Mao hanging on the gate of the Forbidden Palace across from Tiananmen Square. It is suspected the man’s motive was to get attention for himself. The portrait, which was stained by the ink, is currently in the process of being cleaned. In the past Sun served a 17 month prison sentence for credit fraud. Many netizens commented that this time he got off easy, and deserved a harsher sentence.
