Drunk Man Strays Into Cargo Container, Almost Shipped Abroad

Today is the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in China. Below is a fun story Allison translated last month but had not been published. If you celebrate this holiday, hope you have a good time with your family and enjoy your mooncake! — Fauna

From NetEase:

Drunk Man Strayed Into Cargo Container, Almost Shipped Abroad

On August 9 around 4am, a drunk man surnamed Jiang from Shandong Qingdao mistook a cargo container as his [work] dorm room, opening the door of the cargo container and immediately falling asleep. At 7:20am in the morning, the lifting of the cargo container shook Jiang awake, and he found himself trapped in the cargo container. He contacted his co-workers right away. His co-workers reported the situation to the police in time. As Jiang was unable to provide the accurate location of where he was trapped, as soon as Qingdao Development Zone police received the report, [the policy department] dispatched 40 police personnel to all Qingdao ports with cargo containers for search and rescue.

The many cargo containers.

Through constant phone contact with Jiang, Jiang finally found the serial number of the cargo container, and [police] finally located the cargo container that Jiang was trapped in. The freight yard also dispatched 60 staff members [to assist the] police in searching. At 9:30am, as the sound of Jiang’s knocking on the cargo was finally heard, [his cargo container] had already been stacked in the first column, eighth row, and fourth level, at a distance of 20 meters above the ground. Picture is of the police lifting the cargo containers above Jiang’s cargo container.

August 6, Shandong Qingdao, in the process of lifting the cargo container, Qingdao Development Zone police officers stayed connected with Jiang [through the phone].

The many cargo containers.

According to the person in charge [of the cargo station], workers had began stacking this batch of cargo containers ever since 6am that morning, the batch of containers having been custom-made for a U.S. company, and to be shipped to the U.S. the next day. Picture is of Jiang’s cargo container being lifted off.

MB fool, such a great opportunity and he doesn’t go, what is he waiting for?

This freight ferry would travel for at least half a month, or even 40-50 days. He could have starved to death. If it was a cargo container with cookies and mineral water, and you were lucky enough to be in it, then that would be great.

您来我往 [网易广东省佛山市顺德区网友]: (responding to above)

With just that half-filled bottle of mineral spring water and wanting to go there [the U.S.], in such hot weather, even if he didn’t starve or thirst to death, he would have suffocated inside.

But the way [to illegally emigrate] has already been pointed out, so you just need to bring enough compressed biscuits, water, as well as bringing along vitamins and other nutritional supplements. Also enough storage bags (for poop and pee). And bring a few drills, so you can drill some holes in the cargo container.

这个有点难 [网易山东省网友]: (responding to above)

I hear the containers have to be scanned by some kind of ray before being loaded onto the ships, and being scanned by that ray increases the chance of Leukemia. Requesting those who know for a scientific explanation.

Or if there was a sofa in there he could’ve just lounged around during the free journey- assuming there were cookies and water like another commenter noted too :P

    • Patrick Sullivan

They also noted there was no place to go to the bathroom. The funny part is he would likely be caught at the other end….and be shipped back, so to speak.

      • Refractions_of_Error

No place to go to the bathroom? Since when has lack of facilities been an impediment for locals when they want to shit?

    • Refractions_of_Error

Cookies? Are you suggesting torture? Noodles my friend, noodles.

      and a “bucket”…haha

I know some people who turn those containers into homes in the USA – but raw container would have been an unpleasant death if he didn’t have food and water (4 week ocean transit to the USA from China)

Thank [insert deity of choice here] this wasn’t another story of some lowlife doing away with their victim over a triviality , imagined slight or unwholesome appetite.
Hope everyone gets happily pissed and well fed for moon festival and doesn’t wake up in a hospital bed, cell….or cargo container :)

  • markus peg

    Deja vu

  • MrT

Its a homing instinct for Chinese to head to the nearest shipping container to get out of china.
Well that’s how most got into the UK.

    • Refractions_of_Error

And that’s how the rest of them DID get into the uk.

    • Monkeekong

not everyone wants to go to the UK or get out of China. some people actually have it good there. you don’t because your life just sucks in general.

      • MrT

no shit, most the people in the UK would like to escape now, place is full of wogs and criminals. (just like Hong Kong)

Thats why China updated its immigration laws to stop every one coming here. because here is the best place to be right now.

        • Claude

Brits are everywhere! 1.3 Brits in Australia. Another 1.3 million in N America. 9 European nations have 20.000 or more Brits. 5 MILLION live in Spain.
          It’s a fucking exodus!

          • mr.wiener

lol only one point three brits in Australia? What happened to the other seven thenths of that poor fella? :)

          • Might have been Irish.

          • MrT

exactly, the two British governments (hilarious)of the past 50 years have sold the country out on every level.
The people of Britain are being fleeced by every service.
TV,Water,Electric,Gas Petrol,Insurance,Banking,Internet, the list is endless.
Its a police controlled state, cameras everywhere, you cant fart in public with out getting a fine.
They have left the floods gates open for every one to come to the UK and fleece it of all its money and take it out the country..
The lower classes are total scum and are living in poverty and crime. There are “no go areas” all over Britain.

Its be in a constant state of war since i was born.
The only reason there as been no revolution is because of the government backed media bosses, they all in the same bed together. The people are dumbed down to fck to accept the bullshit, even if they tried to revolt they have no long term hope because of the police control all thou various attempts of the past 40 years have succeeded for a short time.
The problem is its the same fcking retarded people from the same old backgrounds that get into politics who are completely out of touch with reality and are spine less shts (like they were at school) and have no balls to make the big reforms that’s needed to stop Britain disappearing into a black hole. oh and the Democratic system just dont cut it anymore, when the idiots who vote are brainwashed by British media that there is only two options of government (3 on a good day) and the governments have to bend over for all the wrong type of people who now have infested the UK.
I feel sorry for any Chinese who do make it to there..

At least the Chinese government as a long term plan to look after its peoples interests.

          • The lower classes are total scum and are living in poverty and crime.

As are the upper classes who think it is ok to funnel money to switzerland to avoid paying UK taxes. Those are the real criminals and scumbags imho!

          • case in point, philip green!

          • MrT

yea, correct, Britain is open wallet for the upper classes who already have their escape plans in place and when the day Britain collapses they will be nicely safe else where spending the money.

          • Claude

Sound like China. The rich waiting for the house of cards to collapse.

          • MrT

Makes you wonder where all the rich people of the world will end up, I’m sure the amount of places they can survive is shrinking and one day they will be all looking down the barrel of a gun and being butt fcked.

          • Claude

Yeah! There’s always a tipping point, right? The shit will hit the fan sooner than later. I heard the other day that the economic recovery in the states is only benefiting 1% of the 1%. Only the super-rich are getting rich as opposed to just the rich rich.

          • Indeed. London crowded and a potential powder keg. where could they go?

          • Claude

Have you seen the excellent Sci-Fi film Children of Men? There are scenes when the films main character is in a public bus going through No Go Zones (much of the city) in London. The Public bus windows are covered with heavy wire, there’s people standing around open barrels with fires and obvious poverty everywhere. looks post riot London. That’s what came to mind when you mentioned No Go Zones.

          • MrT

yea i been through “no go zones” and its got to be the scariest moments of my life. Very unpredictable to the outcome.

          • You are dead on about this.

            http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2425521/Boxer-Edward-Ives-hit-man-hard-left-dead-standing-prison-release.html

And that is only one story of violence that has happened recently. Pretty shite state of affairs when a bloke can’t go out for a cuppa of turkish tea and a doner kebab without getitng brained by some knuckle dragging thug::(:(?

          • Refractions_of_Error

Deeply troubling movie that. Too realistic.

          • Refractions_of_Error

Well how many chinese in London, Boston, Melbourne and etc? If we are going to discuss migration patterns lets be even handed shall we? I can’t believe you brought Australia into this. History perhaps?

          • Claude

I wasn’t being critical of the Brits living overseas, I could care less. I was commenting on Mrt’s comment on how unlikable the place must be these days. They are leaving en masse and that says something about the opportunities available or quality of life of Britain today.

        • because here is the best place to be right now

On this, I’m sure you cannot be serious. New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Spain, it’s good I agree, but the place to be?

          • MrT

is for me, each to their own and all that.
Spain? thought that was on the brink of civil war again.

          • True, each to their own. I was talking more in terms of quality of life. There was a haze of pollution here last week, some factory exploded, the canals you cannot walk along them because the stench is so bad. Economic opportunities and progress is not everything alas. But fair enough,to each as he or she likes.

          • MrT

Well i got beautiful big mountains and lakes around me, rivers i can swim in and drink the water, Hot springs to relax in, Great motorcycle roads and pedal bike roads into the mountains.
Lakes with speed boats. The cleanest air i have ever breathed in my life. Modern small city with everything I need, bars and great food. No industry so no pollution.
I can see the stars at night.

Lovely modern stylish housing to live in.
            Cheap living costs.

All within 2 hours of Kong Bong border.
My body and mind feels great.Very relaxed.
Oh and the birds here! Legs legs and never ending legs!

          • Fair enough. I’d wager you are in guangdong somewhere?

          • MrT

            yup.
Ive also lived in some dead end shit holes in that past where i just want to die.

          • Me too, back in the UK, and Spain. Guangdong is not bad, I rated Zhongshan, seems like almost every apartment complex has a swimming pool, only trouble is getting it to yourself. Are you in or near huizhou or something?

        • Guest

Question: do you think it is a good time for the rest of the world to finally take back everything the crown has looted through so many centuries?

Not my personal opinion, but I know a whole bunch of people who would agree. ;) from all continents, ftr . and btw I don’t support violence so just go tell your queen to give all the gold and silver back, and don’t forget the precious stones.

          chop chop mate

          are you even british? xD

      • I didn’t want to leave China, I wanted fresh air

  • Refractions_of_Error

This guy just thought he could skip paying off traffickers and, probably didn’t want to share the container with 500 other chinese. His mistake is this. Meanwhile, a few containers each crammed with a few hundred chinese who paid for the luxury cruise, are currently sailing towards to UK, Australia or some other western country and will start claiming benefits as soon as they get there. All because they were nobodies in their home country so decided to head to our lands.

This IS the standard criticism of westerners in china is it not? Lets see how this sits with local chinese.

  • boop

this is a fun story? give me a break faina

      • mr.wiener

Sorry you feel that way. Which gimp were you talking about?

I’m a computer Luddite, and I turn my computer on by hitting it with a rock. If there is someone information mining I would assume it to be disqus. Please turn your findings over to Kai and see what he says about it. If there is a conspiracy within Chinasmack I would like to:

Yer just a little too in over your head, chump. You got greedy. You made mistakes. So we had to cut you out. The best thing for you is to walk away. If you can’t do that, then we have a problem.

      • Kai

Let’s put this in perspective. Robert Rou posted his comment at 5:48am according to the time zone in China. I’m in Shanghai. Guess what I was doing at that time.

You complain about his having “free reign to say as he pleases” at 7:08am. Guess what I was doing at that time.

Now, note the time when mr.wiener replied to you. He’s in Taiwan. Guess what time zone that’s in.

Robert Rou is not a “local”. There is no bias for him or against you or Mighty. I’ve explained that the warning was @’d to all three of you. With a Disqus account, all three of you would’ve gotten a “new notification” in your “My Disqus” section or email depending on your settings.

        • Refractions_of_Error

You explained the warning to all three yet you addressed it to me. Who’s butt hurt?

          • mr.wiener

I actually deleted a whole lot of Mighty and Robert Rou’s stuff today, I’m kind of hoping it will bring them to their senses [hope lives eternal] or at least they will give each other a wide berth in the future. No one has been moderated [banned].
Much as you dislike the Kai “wall of text” apparently people aren’t too fond of the Mighty/R.Rou/other contributes flame fest “I know you are but what am I….Get a life faggot!!!” clogging up the page either.

None. He thinks there’s a conspiracy against him because I recently criticized him for making a “Chinese men have small penises” comment and then because I warned him along with Mighty and Robert Rou for a 100+ comment flamefest that flooded another post. He’s indignant and flailing.

          • Refractions_of_Error

Flailing? I’m not the one writing page long comments.

      • Kai

Oh really? Gernalto, eh? Please go ahead and show us the test results. I’m sure a digital security firm like Gernalto would’ve provided a digital copy of the test results. Not sure why anyone would have to meet you in Shanghai to see them.

Now, usually a site that is hacking my PC or hosts malware will result in Firefox or Chrome giving me a warning page when trying to visit the site:

        http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/phishing-protection/
        https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/99020?hl=en

This actually happened to cS before and has happened to major sites like the NYT and WaPo:

        http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/9/3971766/major-websites-hit-with-malware-warning

Thomas, our system admin, runs a tight ship so we’re pretty sure we’re not hacking your PC or hosting anything that hacks your PC. The only time we got flagged for malware was for the same reason as the NYT, WaPo, etc. The culprit was malware attacks on advertising networks that our sites use.

What I’m saying is that if our site was hacking your PC or anyone else’s, Google would probably be one of the first parties to know about it and a warning would appear in your browser to protect you from harm. This is especially true since cS is a large enough site that Google bot crawls it daily scanning it for malware and updating its search result indices.

Please back up your accusations because they’re quite serious. If you’re going to spam false allegations on our site about our site or staff, however, then you risk running afoul of our comment policy and yes, you will be banned for it.

It wouldn’t be the first time.

        • Refractions_of_Error

          Not gernalto. Gemalto.

‘so we’re pretty sure we’re not hacking your pc’

          Pretty sure eh? How reassuring.

        • Aren’t you back in the “valley”, Texas, USA? Someone with your name seems to be replying to that bone idle whiner on youtube.

      • waihang

well I’m not Kai or any of his staff, but you’re kinda neurotic, your comments are just so out of the blue.
Anyway, if you don’t have have it yet installed on your computer, get your self a good firewall program, that is Comodo, it’s more important than antivirus.
btw I wouldn’t be surprised if it would be rather Wu Mao IT Army at work.. maybe you’re (computer) too noisy?

        • Would it not be easier to just use linux? Therefore avoiding any exploitable vulnerability??

          • biggj

You thing linux can’t get viruses and be exploited? They can be just as easy as windows. Just people spend more time making shit for windows because it’s the mainstream os. Not point in writing a virus for an os that the majority of people dont use. It’s a bit more secure…but it’s not exploitable.

          • For android, yes, because of amount using it. But why would munich city government recommend people switch to ubuntu post april 2014, when XP will be vulnerable. And some don’t want fancy windows 8 when they don’t have a touchscreen device. Not meaning to kickstart the whole OS debate, but Linux is very sensible for travellers.

  • Average Zhou

I kinda see why he was confused. That stack of containers pretty much looks like my apartment building, especially at night when the lights would make everything amber and grey.

Number 1 mooncakes are nasty. If they never had that thing in the middle of them. That yellow egg thing….they would be eatable. Although I get some in mail every year from my wifes family. This year we got some from starbucks in china. You get 6 of them and they come in banana, strawberry, and coffee flavor. And they don’t ahve that fucking yellow shit in the middle…and they where pretty good. If you are going to eat moon cakes get the ones from starbucks. I think they are like 300 or 400rmb for 6.

I never understand why starkbucks is making chinese moon cake. hahah…lol So funny. I grew up eating wing wah mooncake. It’s a very old local brand and famous in HK. I like the plain white lotus seed paste , which is very smooth and very rich. You can only eat 1/8 of the cake each time. It’s fattening. I eat it with pu erh tea. The moon cake is rich and smooth and the tea is dark and earthy flavor.

on the subject of starbucks, it’s such a complete rip off. i can’t believe Chinese people buy into that crap, it must appeal to the pretentious bunch. 50RMB for a tea cup of coffee… that mooncake above looks delicious though :)

          • 1 thing we can agree on, buy and make your own at home.

starbucks makes them to make money.

those egg things are salted duck eggs. I don’t really like mooncakes either but for a different reason, i think they are way too sweet.

      • JesusFuckingChrist

Hmm, that’s the best part. I always choose the slice with the biggest egg yolk.

I’ve always thought literal translations of foods for which there is no English word were so funny. Like, “Mmmmm, I remember when I was a kid, if I was good, my mom would give me glutinous rice balls for dessert!”

It’s scary, He can be suffocated inside the cargo container. If they ship it to some place hot the heat inside the cargo container can cook him. Just like kids die inside car during hot summer. Never get trapped in a closed area like the trunk of the car,or a cargo truck, or container. No air and during a hot day you will get cooked.

Hahaha this happens in usa i mean mexicans coming into usa in all sorts of ways.

  • Kilkenny

Why are the containers empty, if they are bound to be dispatched tomorrow?

    • Zappa Frank

it happens quite often that empty units have to be carried where are needed. in this case these empty cntrs seem new units. Maybe done few weeks ago.

  • DRaY
