Does everyone see the eye-catching words “Donated by the Red Cross Society of China, subsidized by the National Lottery Welfare Fund”? shengbo44924 [网易福建省厦门市网友]:

Once a thief, always a thief. The Red Cross Society cannot be forgiven, don’t think you can put up a few tents and say you’re doing good deeds. The money was all donated by the people, you’re merely helping the refugees with other people’s money, yourselves donated only so little. Besides, everybody knows that in mainland China those so-called charity centers, foundations, etc. are all for the sake of conning money; which one doesn’t put their own interests first?

翼星 [网易山东省菏泽市网友]:

Those are not the Red Cross Society’s tents. The Red Cross takes the money from donors, takes a percentage, and simply does things to make themselves look good, okay?

To print words on a tent is charged by the number of words. How much a word costs I’m not too clear on. Does anyone know?

sxc007380 [网易广西防城港市网友]: (responding to above)

In a small place like where I am, normally a word like those on the roof would cost 3 yuan each, while the smaller words below would be 1.5 yuan. Let’s count how many words there are!

黑夜即将过去 [网易山东省威海市网友]: (responding to above)

Impossible. A few years ago I was in screen printing business. Even if its an an individual coming to print an entire batch, with such a large tent and this many words, you could give me 150 [RMB] per tent and I wouldn’t necessarily do do it. What more, this is the Red Cross, so if I could print them 150 yuan, I’d have to at least charge 500 yuan each in order to give the extra 350 yuan to them as their kickback!

What do you think? Of the Red Cross’s work in this disaster? Of the netizen public’s cynicism towards the Red Cross?

…why does China rock the red cross and not a red star? a.k.a red crescent.

    • BigCAD

would of assumed they would have ditched the religious iconography and gone with something more neutral.

    • Young Man

That’s a good idea- the Red Cross of China is a tainted brand: time to change- Red Star’s already been taken by the Israelis though.

I don’t think the cross is religious though- isn’t it the cross of the Swiss flag used because the Red Cross socity was founded during the first Geneva convention and because of Swiss Neutrality was a symbol of the neutrality of Red Cross members?

    • Dr Dust Cell

Red wha? Let’s use the Red Panda. They are so very cute.

Did you know that Sichuan’s Panda Research centers they let red pandas roam free and you can even spot (or pat) a few on the hiking trails?

      • El Puma R.

That’s the next place I’m visiting in china.

      • Dr SUN

        Red Panda, cool idea.

but….the only reason people donate to the red cross, is a belief it wont all get stolen, sorry I mean lost in administration, the Red Panda or “Harvard fund” might not work so well in bringing in donations.

      • Roger

Ahh… no they don’t. I was just there. You do see a lot of them in various enclosed areas. They have a whole section for the red pandas. My friend and I did accidentally went into the working area… we were wondering why they let the Pandas out so close to people.

Back to the story. The entire media is bombarding the airway with anti-japanese stories. It’s like hanging something shinny to distract people away from corruption stories that are unending here in China. Seriously people want to go to war over the tiny island in Japan and Philippians. My company’s goods get constantly delay because parts from Philippians and Japan get double inspected out of the blue. It’s happening to even the biggest industry here in Shanghai. I can’t imagine what others are experiencing in smaller cities.

Too little too late! Fucking thieving animals. I am glad the chinese people don’t forget that. If a farmer steals money from an ATM and gets 15-20 years, why do the bosses of this organisation get away with obtaining money by deceit?

          • Dr Dust Cell

I guessed it was “kisses” but I was one letter too many. “Loving” and “hugs” are also too long and too short respectively.

        • k

ok it has a u and a y in it.

          • Dr Dust Cell

Curry? Cute girls giving away curry?

          • Winter B4 Spring

YES! YOU GOT IT, DOC! it IS “curry”! –> “Cute girls giving away curry.”

          • Winter B4 Spring

            erm o.O
            “y” is not a vowel
            LOL

          • k

Uh actually “y” is a vowel. The vowels are a,e,i,o,u, and SOMETIMES y. Sometimes, the letter y is a consonant, and other times it is a vowel. The rule for telling the two apart is simple: The letter y is a consonant when it is the first letter of a syllable that has more than one letter. If y is anywhere else in the syllable, it is a vowel.

Examples of Y as a Consonant

            yes
            yam
            yell
            yellow
            yogurt
Examples of Y as a Vowel

            gym
            my
            cycle
            baby
            hairy
            sky

There’s some elementary education for ya.

Curry! Exactly right, the girls are giving away curry. I was thinking more like the word “sucky” in reference to oral sexual acts, does anyone else call a ******* a *****?

The problem with the Red Cross in China is that the all the people in key positions are government appointed. And we know what kind of people get appointed by the government.

Yunnan has awesome weather and amazing nature. If the people that live there can’t sustain themselves with what is provided to them by the Earth herself then why would others be expected to help? The Chinese that commented were right when they told those people that they don’t deserve a dime of other peoples money, especially when the handlers of those funds are thieves.

    • Young Man

      Your user name is ‘Icehole’?
May I suggest that it would suit you better if it were ‘arsehole’?

And an ignorant arsehole at that.

    • Slob

I think you misunderstand Icehole. It’s not the people who are receiving the money from the Red Cross and misusing it that people are complaining about, it’s the Red Cross itself who seemingly has a few corrupt players inside that are using the donations to the Red Cross for personal use. In other words, common people are donating to some fat fucker who wants to buy his daughter studying in the USA a brand new BMW.

      • El Puma R.

… has a few corrupt players inside that are using the donations to (fill the blank) for personal use. it happens in every level in the world, just that right here they have no shame whatsoever, it’s just so extreme

  • Slob

Sure, the Chinese Red Cross is full of corrupt greedy jerkoffs, but still these people who lost their relatives and homes aren’t complaining. If they DIDN’T help, people would be crying out “WHERE’S THE FUCKING RED CROSS? WHY DON’T THEY HELP???”

It’s a conundrum and the Red Cross needs to do more than donate a few tents to redeem their tarnished reputation. Good on them for helping out these people, but, their internal affairs need a rebuffing (or complete removal of nearly every high official).

  • PR or not, there’s orderly tents for refugees.

  • k

I’m sure if Gao Meimei donated one of her hand bags, that would at least buy 2 month s worth of noodles for everyone! I never give to the big “charities”, I give to local, community charities, that are rooted in a community, ran by people who live in the community, and whom I see out doing charity work with the funds and stuff given to them….like The Samaritan House or Outreach programs, that repair the low income houses, etc,.

    • I found a really cool tent that the previous tenant left in my house. I was going to set it up in my living room so when moop, weiner and Brett come over we can have a fort. But if there was somewhere to donate it that is trustworthy, I’d give it away.

      • Brett Hunan

Just as long as you guys arent practicing the “secret handshake” in there it sounds great. Sheesh I havent made a fort in like…. 2 years!

  • Rod

Is it zombie outbreak? What’s with the hazmat suits?

    • Dr Dust Cell

Poorness is a contagious, filthy disease that must be quarantined and immidiately sterilized.

      • Dr SUN

        LOL !!

  • BigJ

What the fuck. Are people pissed because they put words on the tent?? The tents were most likely donated from some tent factory in china. And if they did pay they don’t cost that much. I could buy all them tent and then some myself. They cost what maybe 1000 yuan each if that. Maybe I missed the point of the story….What’s the problem here?

    • the problem is chinese dont have enough to complain about. even the diaoyu islands mess cant keep chinese attention long enough compared to the way the “mohammed movie” has kept the attention of the muslims over the internet and on the streets

      • MrT

So true, ever sat with a Chinese watching a movie? Soon as the crying and wailing ceases they break out the mahjong and baijiu and start screaming at each other.

      • Dr Dust Cell

        What “mohammed movie”? :0

        I wanna check that out.

        • BigJ

The one with Will Smith boxing lol

          • Dr Dust Cell

Damn you, red herring! I eventually found the mohammed movie:

    • vince

They’re pissed because the tents are supposedly subsidized by the ‘National Lottery Welfare Fund’ meaning that the Red Cross themselves didn’t have to put much if any money at all into the purchase of the tents. Although they keep asking people for donations, that whole episode where there was corruption in the Red Cross just made things much worse.
Can’t say I blame them, the money donated should be going to those who need it not to some asshole who wants to buy his mistress a Maserati and designer handbags.

      • BigJ

Did people really expect anything but corruption??? The people who donated are just plain stupid. It’s like a crack head asked for 10$ for a new pair shoes……if I trust him to actually go buy the shoes, I’m the retard.

        • vince

haha I guess they found out the hard way. I guess they were oblivious to what was going on within the Red Cross, but once all the details came out then you could say they went ‘red with rage’ , it’s true what they say ‘ignorance is bliss’.

      • El Puma R.

I remember I lied back in 2008 when I told my students I donated 100RMB to the red cross. I recall the big applause. With subtlety I told them I am a moron and they loved me for that. God I am a good liar, do I go to hell for that? My lies are by far more innocent than the ones the Red Cross says.

        • El Puma R.

forgot to say it was for the sichuan earthquake*

    • red scarf

I betting that if they didn’t put the words on the tent they would later be sold or sold by someone else, or even claimed that third party was giving them.

By stamping Red Cross on them whos going to buy them after and claim them as their own. Once finished with they can be handed back to the Red Cross and then refused for another time.

BTW what do the words on the blue tents say, anyone?

Another thing its Chinese people who gave the Chinese red cross a bad name.

  • Me

    God I love Chinese earthquakes.

  • Cleo

I bet Japan Red Cross got loads more especially from/because of International Celebrities like Lady Gaga. Justin Bieber won’t be sending his love out to the people of Yunnan. That should comfort the Japanese and ameliorate the lack of chaos in the conduct of these poor people.

    • Cleo

because I doubt that Anderson Cooper and others at CNN are going to lay it on thick about how CIVILIZED and calm the victims are – the way they talked about Japan earthquake and tsunami survivors made it sound like they were the most refined and most self controlled people on the planet – so if they want to keep those compliments then they can’t use the excuse that a several years and decades of irrationality overcame them and FORCED them to rape and murder MILLIONS of people in Asia who had the temerity of existing on land that was in no way even in CONTACT with Japan.

      • Cleo

so how do you want it?

Do you want to keep those delicious undeserved compliments about how wonderful the Japanese people are in the face of adversity a la British stoicism (like the Spartans of Greece, right?) in the face of the Nazi blitzkrieg?

Or do you want to use the excuse that you were all on crystal meth that made you rape MILLIONS of babies, that you were HYPNOTIZED by your Hitler Hirohito or that you just … lost your temper?? Hmm? Because you can’t be both, you can’t keep both.

        How do you want it?

        • Jeff

Sorry, at any point in the known universe the Japanese are a far better people than the Chinese. So in the past they raped a few Chinese and tried to enslave some of Asia. Get over it. It was a long time ago.

let’s compare the Japanese to the Chinese in a natural disaster. The Japanese still act calm and respectful whereas the Chinese act like Americans during Katrina – only 1000 times worse.

Ever travel with Japanese? A total pleasure – they are polite and clean. Ever travel with Chinese? They are dirtier than a pack of pigs.

I can just picture Captn Wed:

“DAMM thizuu Kukuku gay boiyaaa. Heeee IZA makinnnnn funny of meeeeeh!”

          • Efe the foreigner

@capt. wed i want to know your origin story yo! where you from? what drives your passionate jihad? the world, or just i want to know!!!

          • Nanny Hiccups

Even though capt wed has been an ass to me, I’m going to say this… you all are full of crap to gang up and troll him. Why is it that, westerners don’t make fun of french accents, italian ones, spanish ones, but if a person from a non-european country has an accent suddenly they are mocked?

Capt wed can do a lot more than any of you. He can speak and comprehend English, and he speaks another language. That is not an easy thing to do and yet he does and a lot better than everyone claims. I also think it is racist to make comments calling this man a “chink” and making fun of his writing skills. You can disagree with his statements, make fun of them, fine… but making fun of someone because English is a second language for them just seems stupid and wrong to me.

I really don’t want to defend a chinese man because I dislike them, as they are a group of racist assholes themselves, but piling on and trolling one person just seems wrong to me. Lighten up.

          • Efe the foreigner

at miss nanny hiccups , i rather enjoy him. i seriously want to know more about him. i enjoy his humor. and i make fun of all accents, just not on the internet. that would be silly

          • mr. wiener

            Nanny.
            To address your concerns:
If some of the people who frequent this site disagree with things that Capt wed says it is not ganging up on him.
If this is done in a satirical way it is probable because of the extreme positions and strong language Capt wed uses in his post, I rather think he enjoys the attention and is trolling for it.
I personally don’t like the use of the word “Chink” , but only
Big J used it and I didn’t notice it until you mentioned it. Criticizing other people’s punctuation means and automatic loss of argument according to some internet unwritten laws.
            Lastly:
“I really don’t want to defend a chinese man because I dislike them, as they are a group of racist assholes themselves”.
Can you not see the inherent contradiction in this sentence?

          • Mongojian

            Wow, if I hadn’t checked that I was on chinasmack, I could’ve thought I am on http://www.lowlives.com.

Yeah, maybe chink was a bit harsh….but come on…it Capt. chinamen….You have play his game. It’s like them Japs…you have to be hard um. :P . People have to lighten up. I transcend hate, i’m above that shit. It’s all in good fun. Capt. Bamboo really hates…for real. He’s just a dick..straight up. Has anyone ever seen a comment from this fuck that is the least bit normal? I mean, he’s putting Jihads on people now:) hahahah

And Nanny…I respect you for trying to defend him…but what is this….
“I really don’t want to defend a chinese man because I dislike them, as they are a group of racist assholes themselves”
My sarcasm detector never went off when you said that….pretty funny shit:)

They are cynical of the red cross because there are so many frauds in China that they are able to fake everything, cheat everyone, even fake credentials and have someone with faked credentials become the CEO of China’s Microsoft regional office! Guomeimei was just a small scam that did not hurt anyone but many scammers are out there every day defrauding millions of people all over the world out of hundreds of billions of dollars a year.
