Japan Nationalizes Diaoyu Islands, Taiwanese Netizen Reactions

Japanese nationalists waving Japan's national flag on the disputed Senkaku Islands.

From Yahoo Taiwan:

Japanese Government Purchases Three Diaoyu Islands, Already Signed Contract with the Landowner

The Japanese Government on the afternoon of the 11th held a cabinet meeting, and decided that from 2012 the national budget would allocate funds to purchase three islands from the Diaoyu Island chain (Senkaku Islands). According to reports from NHK, as of noon local time, the Japanese government has already completed signing the landowner’s contract, and formalized their nationalization of the Diaoyu Islands.

The Japanese government has put up 2,050,000,000 Japanese Yen, approximately 780,000,000 TWD [over $26.3 million USD], to purchase three islands from the Diaoyu Island chain (Senkaku Islands). In accordance with the cabinet’s decision, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has instructed Finance Minister Jun Azumi to begin allocating funds.

The Japanese government has decided to purchase the Diaoyu island chain’s Diaoyu Island, North Small Island, and South Small Island, which at present are owned by the Kurihara family of Saitama Prefecture. This afternoon, the Japanese government sent a cabinet official to sign a contract for the Kurihara family’s three islands, transferring all landownership rights, and formally nationalizing the Diaoyu Islands.

On the 10th, the Chinese Foreign Ministry made a statement indicating that the Japanese government has ignored stern complaints from the Chinese side, in announcing their purchase of Diaoyu Island, North Small Island, and South Small Island, and carrying out the process of nationalization. This is a serious infringement of China’s territorial rights, an affront to the feelings of 1.3 billion Chinese, and a serious abuse of both historical fact and international law. The Chinese government and people express resolute opposition and strong protest.

Diaoyu island and its surrounding islets have been China’s sacred territory since ancient times, with historical evidence and in accordance with the laws. The Diaoyu Islands were first discovered, named, and used by the Chinese people, Through the ages, Chinese fishermen have productively used these islands and their surrounding sea area. Early in the Ming Dynasty, the Diaoyu islands chain was already brought under China’s naval jurisdiction, as islands part of China’s Taiwan. The Diaoyu islands have never been ownerless/unclaimed, and China has always been the indisputable owner of the Diaoyu Islands.

Mike Huang:

Go to war!!?

James Tai:

Fuck~

Toy Kao:

As before, little Ma Ying-jeou just holds his telescope and says: We don’t recognize this contract!

菜瓜布:

Can we beg the Japanese people to buy Ma Ying-jeou?

李介豪:

The money we donated to help them with disaster relief they’ve now use to buy islands.

陳銘銓:

Using Taiwan’s 311 [referring to the March 11, 2011 Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami] donations to buy Taiwan’s Diaoyu islands! Unbelievable….Japanese pirates after all!

陳勢勳:

When we have a dispute with China we seek Japan and America’s help. Now when we have a dispute with Japan, we want China to deal with it. Talk about being fence sitters!

Mark Ho:

Those saying we should go to war and have the balls should go sign up and volunteer themselves.

Link Lin:

Taiwan has been too nice to Japan, donating 5,.7 billion TWD for 311, allowing the Japanese government to now save their earthquake disaster money, and have enough money to buy the islands~

Tsai Chin:

Actually, everyone already knows. No one wants to go to war. So all they can do is shoot off their mouths on the internet.

日堯果頁:

The Diaoyu Islands are China and Japan’s problem, and nothing to do with Taiwan.

This is so painful and genuinely sad. But the only thing to do is an economic boycott of all Japanese and German goods and any coventures that will profit either Japanese or Germans.

Do not buy from Goblin Men! – that’s my favorite poem because it reminds me of the Japanese and their repackaging of Chinese ingenuity for the Chinese consumer market:

Why pick on the Germans? They were the only ones who helped the Chinese when nobody else would and supported China against Japan.

  • Linette

Wow…dame. The Japanese gov’t so bad. Now they are trying to say they bought it. hahaha..Pathetic. Give it back to China and get it over with. Stop attacking Chinese fishermen.

    • lonetrey

Maybe this is a ploy to force a move. On one hand, the Japanese gov will say they’ve paid for it, and unless the Chines gov reimburses them for the money they spent, they can’t exactly let go of the islands now.

On the other hand, China might just not give a fuck, and claim it anyways. And then the Japanese gov will say that the Chinese gov are acting hostile because they are either forcing them to have wasted all that money or they’re stealing what they’ve paid for.

      • linette

Exactly, the japanese gov’t are saying now they spend money on it and it’s their. If China wants it China has to pay a price or something.

Come on, the island is in China’s water. Diaoyu is right next to Taiwan along with all the other islands. Japan needs to move back to their own land. This conflict will continue until Japan move out and back to their own land. Chinese fishermen will continue to fish around the island. I dare Japan to attack civilian fishermen and sink them. Let see.

        • me a

          yeah, close to Taiwan.
Then you should get Taiwan back first, after that you have the right to claim Diaoyu too

        • A GUY

They purchased it so that it would be easier to control and so that a Japanese citizen wouldn’t have the right to do whatever they want with the islands (i.e. build a giant sign saying fuck China on it). Oh and they can do this cause it is their territorial land.

China would buy them back for a trillion dollars in the end if it was offered because they care more about face than reality.

          • linette

conniving Japanese gov’t……maybe all Japanese men are like that. ;)

        • John Snow

China’s fault for not wanting it back after the war. The moment they found natural resources there suddenly China wants the island back. China’s loss for being careless. If you snooze you lose.

  • Cleo

If Russia did what Japanese is doing or if CHINA did what Japan is doing, the Western media coverage would be totally different and condemning China in no uncertain terms. But it’s Voldemort and his secret nukes and way too much plutonium in Fukushima when there was no plutonium in Chernobyl.

    • Kukuku

You know what Cleo? No one cares about your national feelings. We have international laws and according to them Japan owns these islands. You want to play with the big boys you gotta follow the rules.

Sometimes I just wish China would try to attack Japan just to be brought down back into submission by the Japanese forces.

You want the islands so bad? You can follow international laws and try to buy them or you can try and take over said lands. Chinese inaction is the real statement here.

      • Efe the foreigner

yeah! what kukuku said! and your harry potter parallels fuckin suck

  • patko

It always belonged to Japan. I havn’t seen any evidence to the contrary. Japan had a company on that property way back when. The chinese did not oppose the Japanese in building it on the islands. Secondly there have been found several chinese maps on which the islands have a japanese name.

Maritime law states that if a nation occupies a territory not claimed by any one nation, and no nation opposes the occupation it can be said that thereby the occupying nation has received the rights to the property.

It can also not be said that China didn’t know about Japan’s presence on the island as there are documents of travelers who have talked about the island.

So there was knowledge of the island, China didn’t react even when japan had basicly “colonized” it. And thirdly there exist chinese maps giving the islands a japanese name, which means they never were against the idea. Ofcourse the islands were low on the radar of everyone untill (and im not sure of this) resources were found there.

    Case closed.

    • asdf

I like how everybody is bringing up all these stupid historical justifications of ownership, while in fact none of it fucking matters. Land is obtained through military force alone. Moral/historical justifications are only necessary afterwards as an excuse to feed those sissy libertarian idiots who make up the majority of our society.

      • linette

It’s absolutely true. Just like any history. Lands are obtained by physical force. Just like the native their lands were taken by the white by force. Japan were in power. Looted those islands. Now China can also use military force to take it back.

        • redgirl

I know, the white. f**kn splitters.

        • BigJ

Not all land is obtained through force…..Countries buy land too. Alaska?

      • Tranxenne

Thank you. That’s why I maintain that Tibet is indeed part of China, while Taiwan is a totally different country. Now gentlemen, to your guns!

      • moop

“Land is obtained through military force alone. Moral/historical justifications are only necessary afterwards as an excuse to feed those sissy libertarian idiots who make up the majority of our society.” please find me a government or society that i essentially “libertarian”. there aren’t any and a majority of every country on earth is full of statists. today’s international political norms have moved away from forceful land grabs which have more or less stopped since the end of ww2. its not viewed as a legitimate means of gaining territory by any world body/organization in today’s world. china, as long as they are part of the UN and the security council have to abide by today’s norms and international law. international norms prevent them from forcefully taking territory, and international law defines the senkaku as japanese territory. perhaps the chi-coms will build a time machine and change all this or at least stop bawling like a 6 year-old girl who skinned her knee

        • asdf

There’s no such thing as international law. Laws become meaningless when there are no means to enforce it. The reason we haven’t already broken into WWIII is because everybody has nukes.

The USA and several other western countries secured their dominant international position through forceful land grabs themselves. They understand clearly from experience that such an act from any rival country would pose a huge threat to their world domination. So of course it would be their desire to pull today’s international political norms away from forceful land grabs. They tell everyone that they’re maintaining piece, while they topple rival governments with military force, and lies about human rights. The US and its dogs are only interested in maintaining the current parasitic world order which they constructed though centuries of invasion colonization and genocide.

          • asdf

I have to admit the human rights technique is rather ingenious. Instead of sending their own troops, they use lies to mobilize a country’s own citizens against itself. Very clever. . .

          • moop

according to the chinese there is international law, as they keep saying that japan’s claim of the senkaku’s are illegal under said law, so that’s really all that matters in this case. you can say there isnt any enforcement, but thats only true if security council uses their vetos. but international orgs are fairly toothless and worthless. actually forceful landgrabs became a thing of the past because of the cold war. the head of the bipolar power structure used proxies instead and the focus was on a military arms race and spread of ideology rather than territorial gains. the reality is that territorial land grabs are frowned upon by not such those evil westerners you disdain. it’s a norm the civilized world accepts. notice who is missing from ths civilized world? its not just the powerful nations like the US that want this, what about the smaller states? why would any small nation want to live in a world where land grabs are the norm and they can be easily taken advantage of? they wouldnt, and they dont. you can cry about the west all you want, but its not going to change the fact that land grabs are no long part of international norms, nor should they be. that type of overt colonialism died out just like slavery died out. was that a conspiracy too?

          • asdf

They’re just following the western example of bullshitting for public appeal. You actually believe what Chinese government officials say? Grow up.

          • moop

“They’re just following the western example of bullshitting for public appeal. You actually believe what Chinese government officials say? Grow up.”

no, i dont believe what they say. i dont even believe they really think they have a legitimate claim to the senkaku. but that doesnt matter, they are still claiming that its theirs by international law and thats what the international community hears from them and nothing else. i know that in china saying one thing and doing the other is normal, but the international community still expects leaders and states to do what they say. but we dont exactly see china taking any of their disputes to the international community that they also have taken huge advantages of. keep the tears flowing pussy.

          • asdf

Again. Small countries are fairly safe because they cling to Nuclear capable allies. But even this does not seem to prevent them from unjustified US invasion. I see that the United States of America is missing from your civilized fantasy world.

          • asdf

Yeah sure. The US invasion of Iraq was supported by the international community. Where are those weapons of mass destruction?

          • moop

“The US invasion of Iraq was supported by the international community.” you’re not too bright are you? you seem to have forgotten how pissed off the rest of the world was when US invaded without UN approval. anyways, are any of those countries US territory now? why wouldnt the US just take them? i mean the US and the western world are just mean old bullies and the US is the most powerful nation in the world and has the strongest military. why not just go around taking land in this day and age? huh? oh? international norms? international law? free trade? setting precedence for future international norms? anyone to liberate on the senkakus? any genocide on the senkakus? any political oppression on the senkakus? no, well then sorry, the international community will not give you a free hall pass to invade your neighbor’s land. please immolate yourself

    • linette

No, during the ming dynasty those islands were used by the chinese. Those islands were also on the China maps as early as ming dynasty. The chinese were using those islands and the water around it for fishing since anciet time. Japan wanted more lands and they were in military power at one point so they looted islands off the China water. Now that China has more military power they can also use military force to take it back. China was always busy dealing with their internal problems probably didn’t pay too much attention to little islands.
It’s like just because I am busy putting off fire in my house don’t give you the right to loot stuff off my backyard. Thank you very much. Now give it back.
And if Japand dare to attack another chinese fishermen they are asking for war.

      • asdf

Nobody cares. The native Americans owned north America for thousands of years. Europeans took it over anyway. Where’s their excuse? none. don’t even need one. They have guns, they get land. Simple as that.

You’re using evidence from China daily, yet you call me a brainwashed CCP party member.

        • linette

fine, I won’t use that article. But I am just lazy to search for other articles. But we all know what happened to those islands by taiwan’s water and what the japanese did.

          • Rod

I think you’re missing the point that no one cares what the historical data says. Japan has been there long enough that anyone non-Chinese pretty much agrees that it’s Japan’s and China should stop crying about it. The take-land-by-force-train left a while ago and China missed it. Bad luck.

          • A GUY

1 most people don’t give a shit about your historical “evidence”.
2 It is tenuous evidence at best. (we fished around there a long time ago) (so did the Japanese and Ryukyuans)
3 It was land that was not stolen from you but instead stolen from an old tributary nation the Ryukyuan kingdom (not Taiwan) Japan was once lumped into that category long long ago just like the whole silk road, Korea, and most of SE Asia. Do you own those?
4 They have positive control of it so the onus is on you to prove without the shadow of a doubt that it was taken from YOU by “unequal treaties”, that the Senkakus were actually truly considered a part of Taiwan and not zoned as part of the Ryukyus (there are Chinese documents showing both and unsurprisingly Japanese ones have them zoned as Ryukyuan), and show the world anywhere in the treaties that the Senkakus were not “other islands we deem” (looks like the UK and US two of the three signatories deemed stupid.) then you may have a claim at all, but you don’t so shove it.
5 If you feel like you no longer have an argument and want to go the route of saying we have the power now so we will be dicks then I will say this. America has more and by treaty then so does Japan so if you try it lots of people will die just for your face and fabricated history. Hey maybe the Senkakus will be the only place on earth that survive the nuclear holocaust so I guess you win.
            Bravo.

          • linette

no, it’s more like you are so brainwashed, deceived, and lied to by your gov’t that you have no understanding about the true of history. Just like how your gov’t told you nanking massacre never happened.

        • anon999

EXACTLY and nobody should care if China take it from Japan by force now

          • A GUY

My govt taught me all about Nanjing in school. This isn’t at all about Japanese war atrocities. (they were the worst and that cannot be understated.) You confuse my logical conclusion that the Senkaku’s are Japan’s with a blind support of Japan. If they are wrong like in other disputes with Russia and SK than I back the other party. This is because my public schools taught me to think critically not feel butthurt and assume that feeling entitled me to things.

      • BigJ

Linette, According to that logic we can look at a map from the ming dynasty and see who owns all the land in the world today. Land changes hands all the time. Japan is now in the situation they want to be in. Japan will not do anything hostile anymore with these islands. They have the proof on paper.Let’s just say China attacks boats or some shit like that. In the eyes of the world it will be China fault, and will side with Japan.

It’s like finding a car on the street that no one owns. Sure this guy”China” might have been the first to drive it around, but this guy”Japan” got the car registered and plated and insured. So who is the legal owner of the car now? In the eyes of the department of motor vehicles “The world” it belongs to Mr.Takaminshinoku. Not Mr.Wang.

        • linette

Big J, if japan is not hostile tell them to stop harassing chinese fishermen sinking their ship. Let chinese fishermen fish in the water in their own backyard which is around diaoyu island. Let the chinese use the diaoyu island also like they’ve been using it since ancient time. What’s Japan problem?

          • Jahar

3-4 times you mentioned Japanese attacking Chinese fishermen. When was this? I remember hearing about a chinese fishing vessel ramming the Japanese coast guard. I’ve also heard about chinese fishermen attacking and killing south korean coast guards, but nothing about japan attacking chinese fishermen.

          • linette

It’s a known facts that they harass chinese fishermen. And no, Japan lied about the accident. They cut in front of the chinese ship causing collision. This video was later on leaked after Japan lied about chinese ramming into them.
The video was taken from jap boat. And you can clearly see Jap cut in front of them harassing fishermen.
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcdMspOrqLU&feature=relmfu
Look at the video at 1:20.

          • Disgusted

@linette…your irractic xenophobic manner on how you present your facts is very condescending and unflattering. You fail to make valid truthful points other than unsubstantiated links which you use to support your claim….All I can see is nothing more than a “Texan Longhorn with some points, but a lot of bull in-between”

          • Jahar

Harassing the people the consider to be breaking the law. Yeah they do that to criminals in canada too. Most coast guards, actually, are known to harass people finishing in their waters illegally.

As for cutting in front of them, have you ever seen the police try to get cars to pull over? they often cut in front of them. It gives you the choice of slowing down, or hitting them.

          • linette

            Jahar
The chinese are fishing in the water right next to their own lands. It will continue to cause conflict if Japanese don’t leave diaoyu and go back to their own land.

          • linette

Jahar, btw, ships don’t operate like that. They can’t come to a full stop like cars on land. A ship with faster engine supposed to yield right of way to ship with slower engine. The faster boat like that coast guard boat also have better maneuvering control to avoid collision. The faster jap boat forcefully cut in front of a slower engine fishermen boat, definitely had the intention of colliding with the Chinese boat. When ships collide they can sink. People can die. It’s not like you can pull over and get off your car. The Jap was “attacking” the civilian fishingmen who was fishing in the water in front of their own country. Not in the water next to Japan.

        • mr. wiener

It is “right next to” everyone’s lands. Let’s all learn to play nicely.

      • Jennster

During Hua Xia times when the han chinese were centred in the middle plains up till qing dynasty their naval culture is very weak and never focused on it even with such a large coastline. However after 1949 CCP leadership they have been focusing on coast development and navy/airforce more and more, like what Japan did during its modernisation. in the future the Chinese will devlop a navy force unlike the qing dynasty that only relies on bought superior technology and still lost because they are dumb.

        • BigJ

Are you bad mouthing China? I thought you were a nationalist?

          • Jennster

depends? do you see qing dynasty as ‘china’ though?

      • Efe the foreigner

goddammit, if this logic were true then most of the world would belong to the turks and mongolians.

Funny how when anti-Japanese statements come from Taiwanese netizens, nobody insists that their reactions are a result of government brainwashing or some distorted education system designed to demonize Japan.

    • Getrealson

Because it’s all been said “ad nauseam” and it’s getting boring.

Anyway, its not just anti-Japanese. Taiwan is NOT part of China so even if the Japs gave up Senkaku, Then the Chinese would take it off Taiwan. And while claiming shit that isn’t theirs they’d probably focus on taiwan after that.

      • linette

        Getrealson
You don’t understand why so much conflict between chinese and japanese right? The japanese coast guards harass Chinese fishermen and even sink ships. They are too close to Taiwan and China and will cause conflict even death. The japanese need to move back onto their own land in Japan and stay away from the chinese.

        • asdf

LOL the replies are all irrelevant to its previous comments. You guys are so cute :3

        • BigJ

    • Disgusted

It is also equally distasteful and appalling these so-called new citizens from ‘whatever country they are from’ are allowed to immigrate to your country to incite hatred and lies from the country they are fleeing from. Isn’t it ironic that they all want new better life in a new country…yet they want just to live and incite the same hatred and same lies. A blantant lie over time becomes redundant hence becomes a truth in time to many supporters and unsupporters. It has clouded many educated minds. In reality they do not see the truth or want to believe it…
Its our failure of our the governments to allow this to happen. As nations of democracy and freedom of speech, we will be tested time and time again, but alas it is a losing battle for which we will all pay in the end whatever side you are on…

      • Misiooo

Nations of democracy? Freedom of speech? Show me one of those on the map. Skip Switzerland.
Fleeing? Better life? C’mon, no one’s fleeing to China or comes for better life. This is prison colony. We’re sent here, we serve our sentence and then we are released.

  • Slob

China never ‘owned’ it, they only wanted it AFTER the Americans discovered possible oil reserves in the area back in the late 60’s. Before that, they never claimed sovereignty over the islands and didn’t even care when Japan built a factory on the island ages ago. Historical? wtf? Historically speaking 90% of the world’s countries don’t ‘belong’ to them if we give it all back to the aboriginals. And it’s not even between China and Japan, it’s betweem Taiwan and Japan – nice going activists when you crashed the islands and stuck a Chinese flag on it and not a Taiwanese one…dickheads don’t even know wtf they’re doing.

    • linette

China never said to Japan they can have the islands neither.

Let me make it more fun because this diaoyu topic is getting boring. Let me ask you this question. Just for fun.

You have many bike outside your house. You use all of them for yearssssss and you have more than enough bike to use.
Your neighbor from across the street came over outside your house and took one of the bike because he sees that you are not using it. You don’t really care because you are too busy doing house work inside your house. So your neighbor is using your bike but you never told them that you are giving it to them. A year later, you realize you left $20 dollars inside the a container attached on that bike. Now you are trying to claim the bike back but your neighbor said too late. What do you think. hahahha….lol…

      • redgirl

I would say hindsight is 50/50.
Don’t be complacent with what you have.
        Your neighbour is a dick.
        Buy a lock and chain.
        Don’t be so naive.

        • linette

yes, I know China’s neighbor Japan is a dick. China back then didn’t have enough military force to “chain” onto Diaoyu island.

          • Wade

You didn’t have a military force then which is why you don’t have the islands now. You lost them. Armies invade places and take things; that’s the way it works. Countries don’t just give back land. The US isn’t giving back the land it took from Mexico and the Indians. Israel’s not giving back the land from the 1967 war. Germany didn’t just give back Europe in WWII. Historical claims don’t mean shit. China should use the military and take the islands back if it wants them. And if it’s not worth fighting over, then what do you want them for anyways?

          • Efe the foreigner

i like what wade said. common sense amongst everyones shananigans. well put sir

      • Rod

Add to the analogy that you found the bike and no one else in the neighborhood says it’s yours

        • redgirl

          either and neither?

        • linette

The bike is located in front of my house like that side walk tree right in front of my house. I use the tree for shade for years like I use the bike. Why not my neighbor from across the street take my tree also? Tell Japan to claim the water in front of Taiwan and China also. Might as well.

          • Jahar

It’s more like, there’s a bike in front of your house. It’s always been there, but you never used it. You tell your family that it’s your bike. Your neighbour sees it, and takes it. You try to stop him, but he punches you until you say it’s okay for him to take it.

But still this sucks because there are a million other factors to consider.

Like the fact that the PRC never had possession of it. They claim to be a different country from it’s predecessors when it comes to debts, but not assets.

      • Boris

Sorry, your post was a bit long to read.
Were you implying that you are the village bike?

        • nufio

          LOL!

      • elizabeth

I know the Chinese do not like things to be put in black and white. But this issue underscores why the Chinese should wise up instead of relying on clout or connections to get things done. It works well only in within China.

The Diaoyu Islands will be officially Japan’s in no time.

        • Slob

The ‘bike’ never belonged to you (China/Taiwan). It wasn’t out the front of your house, it was lying in the middle of the road. You looked at the bike and may have even ridden it a few times, but it’s not your bike nor did you legally claim it in any way. Neighbour comes along and sees a bike on the road, uses it, and likes it. You see this happening and don’t care. You even let SOME FAMILY BUY THE BIKE AND STILL NOT CARE.

Now, some guy walking through the neighbourhood sees the bike and realises it has gold rims. Suddenly, you want the bike. Too bad you didn’t claim it earlier when it looked like a piece of shit bike and now it’s gone. “BUT I RODE THAT BIKE A LONG TIME AGO!!!!” so what? It’s still not yours and from the looks of it, never will be.

          • PeterScriabin

            Where’s the Like +10 button?

Even better: after the neighbor took the bike from the middle of the road, that neighbor went to jail, and all his property was taken to Lost Property, administered by “the government”. While the bike was impounded, someone noticed the gold rims.

At that point, several residents came forward to “claim” the bike, but the government gave it back to the neighbor who originally picked it up, after his jail term was served. [End-of-analogy]

Even so, given the geographical location of the islands, it might have been fairer if a tripartite division of the property had been negotiated, with one “neighbor” operating the place, and shares of the income paid to the other 2 as dividends, in perpetuity.

          • Capt. WED

but you forgot the side story that the neighbor was forced fucked in the ass by some toughguy hehe. then the neighbor in a fit of butt hurt took the bike. a few days later realizing how kick ass butt fucking is grabbed some dope addict and fucked him in the ass. The dope addict awoke, went to some sort of rehab, then realized hey man that fucking bike is mine! And you fucked me in the ass!

          • A GUY

I don’t know what you meant by that, but I think it’s genius.

      • Efe the foreigner

i light my neighbors house on fire and make love to his dog. then i dance naked on his burnt lawn while making new bike frames from his families charred bones, in an artistic manner. i piss on the twenty dollars and throw coins from an overpass. all whilst shamefully wasting electricity. god i hate this topic………

      • Teacher in China

I would say “tough luck” to you, the previous owner of the bike. It’s your negligence and lackadaisical attitude that caused it to be stolen in the first place. Then you wait a year before doing anything about. Too bad. You lose. I’ll have fun on my bike now thanks.

  • ChineseFighter

    shut the fuck up

    • Slob

You see in Japan, the people are being told the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu) belong to Japan, have always belonged to Japan, and now China and Taiwan are trying to take it away from them. How do you think they feel? Probably the same as you every time someone says the islands belong to Japan. Look at facts and not just the shit you see on CCTV at 7PM every day.

      • BigCAD

Actually the vast majority of Japanese couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the Bukake Atoll. only the small minority of unreasonable nationalistic nutters; unfortunately the vast majority of Chinese mainlanders are of the same ilk, what does this say about the emotional well being of the Chinese nation.

The number of anti Japan protests I have counted in the last month in Taiwan, zero, they also couldn’t care less. I only come down on the side of Japan in this as I enjoy watching the main lander’s work themselves in to a frenzy about f all.

        • C84

Whenever a poster states that 1) a small minority of country A acts inappropriately and 2) pretty much all of country B acts inappropriately, you know that this troll is Japanese. Also when they make a statement based on an unempirical/unscientific survey of people they bump into on a regular basis, you know they are Japanese trolls (or Wapanese). Also, Taiwanese have their heads buried so far up Japan’s arse that I’m surprised they’re not protesting on a regular basis to become a Japanese prefecture permanently. Those two countries belong together forever.

          • C84

Excuse me, I meant “country” as in referring to Taiwan’s “dream.” Maybe they should settle for being a Japanese colony once again.

Listen to my french advice. Don’t go to war, give-up these islands without fighting and just laugh it off in front of a warm croissant. Going to war for the sake of blind nationalism over such a trivial matter would benefit no one.

Seriously, this dispute is getting ridiculous, it looks like the South Park “City Sushi” episode.

        • 404namenotfound

          ^ This!

This isn’t a fight for territorial integrity it’s a fight for resources, I doubt China had any plans to set up a club med on those islands.

    • C84

I don’t think anyone actually likes the Japanese either, other than for their money. As for being “allies” with the US – I think it’s more like Japan is the barking puppet/dog and the US is the puppetmaster. It’s more of a master-servant relationship than an equal military alliance. Pretty soon, the US empire will fall, as all empires eventually do. When it does, Japan will find it surrounded by all these countries that absolutely hate it. What will the Nippon people do then?

So can we start to correctly call them the Senkaku Islands – which is their legal name. And by the way I read that Japanese people actually used to live on them in the past – no mention of Chinese ever living there.

    • Jennster

  • White guy in USA

I looked on Google Maps. The islands are closest to Taiwan, then mainland China, then Japan.

    • I love China.

Yes, I can also see that spratly and scarborough shoal is way closer to Philippines yet China claims it as their own. I think this is not a matter of how close you are to something you claim to own it, it’s about how powerful the county are to push your claim. Look what happened to China and Philippines; China force their claim coz they knew Philippines can’t do anything to stop them. And now, here comes Japan, A powerful country with strong allies to support them. Does China force their claim like what they did to poor Philippines?

      • linette

China needs to leave Philippine alone. They belong to Philippine.

      look again
      (wikipedia)
140 kilometres (76 nmi; 87 mi) east of Pengjia Islet, ROC
( a place that is small and only inhabited by military and rests 80Km from Taiwan. Sounds about the same as the Senkakus are to Japan’s nearest inhabited islands.
170 kilometres (92 nmi; 110 mi) north of Ishigaki Island, Japan
An island with cities and towns.
(So the Senkakus are 220 NM from the Island of Taiwan and the nearest Taiwanese town but only 170 from the closest inhabited Japanese island)

Now which seems further removed from the other’s solid territorial boundaries.

Not so clear HUH? and don’t even mention the distance to the Mainland. 250 Miles with a sovereign-ish Island in between.

      • linette

Why don’t you just post the map to show where is China, taiwan, japan and diaoyu. Why all the nonsense?
Now tell me where is diaoyu?

Our neighbor the great empire Japan is really not from across the street. They are at least 3 blocks down across the street driving over to steal our bike. They really have to travel far to come to diaoyu and the water of china and taiwan.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Senkaku-Diaoyu-Tiaoyu-Islan.jpg

        • A GUY

The map just above the one you posted shows it clearly.
All islands in this image are not China’s and only one belongs to Taiwan.

          http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/19/Diaoyutai_senkaku.png/320px-Diaoyutai_senkaku.png

They only have to travel 110 form the island of Ishigaki where there is a City and everything that houses Self defense forces that can hop on a ship and patrol there waters. Much shorter distance that the PRC has to go.

        • A GUY

Do you know how to read a map?

          • linette

I know how to read a map. And you?

          • A GUY

yes I do. I guess you just like to lie then.

  • Dripping Third Leg

Well, my proposal is the communist should simply wipe out the island by firing off a few nuclear warheads so the Japanese wouldn’t claim ownership of the wasteland any more.

    • Gontraf

Giant nuclear lizards are all Japanese.

  • Pong Lenis

    1. The JP gov bought the islands to prevent the (right wing) Tokyo mayor to buy them. This was a preemptive move by the JP gov to calm the situation.

    2. The Chinese claims are hard to substantiate. If you go ancient history there Japanese evidence too.

  • Northerner

If you look at a map carefully, very carefully, you might see that the islands are closer to Japanese territory. But of course you’d claim that as well, probably all the way back as far as Kyushu.

WHEN THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO START THE WAR??????????????????????

    • Poltergeist

At the moment you use your brain. That means: NEVER…

    • Boris

Like your posts, it’s pretty much a load of piss and wind. The war’s probably not going to happen, and certainly not in your lifetime. So you’d better get another outlet for your sadism, such as kicking malnourished homeless cats, or shouting really loudly at shopkeepers while pretending that you’re hard of hearing, or chain-smoking in the only male squat toilet in KFC while other people are bustin’ for a plop.

      • BigJ

Yeah, there will be no war over this. China has nothing really to gain. And the CCP won’t risk losing what they have over some stupid little island. They live too good to care about these things. Say if there was a war….Japan and america would destroy every chinese ship. And at that point China would most likely surrender. The CCP have it too good to risk some country overthrowing them. China talks a big game…but I can’t see them going to war over this. That is just plain stupid. Only Nationalist scream that type of shit.

        • Rod

I was just talking to my friend about this (Chinese guy) and he said that China already blew up two Japanese boats and Japan blew up one Chinese boat. I don’t know what he was talking about because I’ve not read anything here or seen other news about it, but his phrasing was that the war had already started.

          • Poltergeist

Yeah, the war has probably started. Only on local scale though. Usually you can see the war only in internet cafes in any city of China, where some heroic online-heroes play Starcraft against other people that pretend being Japanese…
After 23 hours in the internet cafe, chain-smoking, not eating and drinking, they usually go home and ask “mommy” to cook a meal for them…

    • I love China.

You speak of war like you’re playing DOTA.

      • wacky

but dont you think that china need a war??

        • Boris

          Wookie,
If a war will make you feel better about yourself, I’ll talk to the top brass and see what can be arranged. In the meantime, would you settle for an ice-cream?

          • wacky

cant you see my question??? do you think china need a war??
not necessarily with japan but since china has the largest unused and untested military forces, they surely need a war.
there are considerations to be taken but the need to fight a war is indeed an urgent one as the US move their focus to the pacific an untested army is not something china wants to have.

an we have our ice cream after the cease fire, are you good with that? OK

      • wacky

but dont you think that china needs a war??

  • Nick in Beijing

I positively LOVE how Chinese always go on about how peaceful they are, and friendly, and kind. All while at the same time screeching for war. Not only the retards who post here, or some editorials in news papers.

The Chinese are showing their real colors, now that they have a few guns and a few kuai to spend on more. As much as I have always wanted to believe in the concept of the “peaceful rise” that China always claims to be promoting I have known that it is nonsense. There is no way a country can undergo such a military build up and have peaceful intentions. It is just counter intuitive.

Good on Japan for making an attempt to legitimize their claim. China should get their legal experts moving to find more than just dusty old maps that might or might not be real. They should get groups of experts who are in no way associated with the government (to at least give the appearance of neutrality) to find more compelling evidence.

If China did as stated above then maybe they would have the world’s ear, but the aggressive nationalism brewing in China is plain to see, and makes their veil of peacefulness all the more transparent.

    • linette

The Chinese are showing their real colors, now that they have a few guns and a few kuai to spend on more…..
Nick in Beijing, Chinese is not the only one showing their real colors. Countries like Japan, Germany, and USA are constantly showing their real colors using their military force throughout history. Look at wwII jap and germany aggression. Look at Usa always in war. So stop saying that. I doubt Chinese really want war with Japan. War is not good for any country. People die lands get destroyed.

      • BigJ

        “People die lands get destroyed.”
They don’t give a fuck about that….It all about money and resources. No war will come from this. Each side has too much to loose and nothing much to gain. China will not risk that….and since america will get involved they won’t do it.

      • Disgusted

Isn’t it obvious you are showing YOUR true colours ? Freedom of speech in open society is a given right, so everyone is entitled to have a honest and unoppressed opinion, right ? You have painted the same redundant picture of outright hatred of humanity based on your unsupported claims and lies. Your oxymoronic thinking is very disturbing, which if I might add is pure hatred. . There is a fine line between expressing your view and inciting hatred. The irony in all this is your country Taiwan was driven out of China by the very people you are supporting now. Do you really think that they (CCP) really welcome you now as we speak ?

    • Jennster

coming from a YANK like you, that’s hilarious.

      • BigJ

You like that word YANK don’t ya???? There has to be something worse you can call american’s….I can’t think of any right now…wait..I thought of something…Instead of just saying “Yank”…you could say “Septic yank” :)
“Septic Tank”, a part of sewage processing system. AKA. a shit holder. :)
I’m just trying to help you out. So me of the slurs Chinese use for americans are just lame. “American running dog?” That sounds kind of cool to me. :) I mean we have really cool names for Chinese people :)

        • Nick in Beijing

That’s funny Big J… I gotta remember that one.

      • Nick in Beijing

Yeah, not bothered by what nationalist Chinese have to say about anything. Nice to see that you’re not creative enough to think of a good insult though, except pointing out my nationality.

        Anyway.

        @ Linette

Funny thing about what you say regarding the U.S. “showing it’s colors repeatedly”, if that is the case (and it certainly is) then it isn’t “showing it’s real colors”, it is waving it’s colors around for people to see. No one in the U.S. is hiding behind any sort of facade, the military build up in the U.S. has never been lauded as a motion towards peace. There is a reason it’s called the military industrial complex, and there is a reason why the phrase “police of the world” exist.

The huge difference here is that China built up it’s military under the pretense of national defense, not offensive action. Now we see what it’s definition of national defense is. Any thing that China claims to be Chinese for any reason whatsoever is an integral part of it’s territory, regardless of size, distance from the mainland, or resource content.

China is making these claims as a pretense for war, that is all. The resources are a bonus, but they are primarily being used to rally national support for war.

Maybe this particular incident won’t start any war, but these sorts of incidences are what China will use as it’s impetus for future action.

Step 1. Get it’s people to interact with the outside world so the country can get wealthy on trade.

Step 2. Build up military forces for “the defense of the Chinese mainland and it’s territories”.

Step 3. Make people proud of their nationality by flaunting wealth and designing television shows to be shown to the public outlining China’s past humiliations.

Step 4. Anger the people by showing the outside world humiliating China in the present.

Step 5. Exaggerate or outright fabricate incidences to incite hate in it’s people of all things foreign.

Step 6. Turn national pride into a rallying cry, get popular support behind an invasion of a foreign territory.

        Step 7. Well….

Funny that this is what’s happening in China, and you nationalist idiots (including you who actually live in America, and claim to enjoy it and like it better than you do China… Linette) are so quick to the U.S. for doing exactly the same thing. Well fuck it looks like China has copied yet another thing from the U.S.. Strategies for rallying popular support for military action.

        • Disgusted

          @Nick in Beijing …Well said…

Unfortunately these xenophobic, oxymoronic nationalists are too blinded to listen to reason. They cannot carry an open transparent debate with anyone without resulting in verbal and physical mudslinging match. Generations of CCP conditioning has warped the Chinese intellectual mind. They are as guillible as can be when comes to facts amongst themselves, but quick to be violent with anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Many of their historical facts have been adulterated, thus a lie…Here is a quote from the 9 commentaries of the CCP. The real truth is there, if you chose to seek it…

“Deception and lies have played a very important role in the CCP’s gaining and maintaining control. China enjoys the longest and most complete history in the world, and Chinese intellectuals have had the greatest faith in history since ancient times. The Chinese people have used history to assess current reality and even to achieve personal spiritual improvement.

To make history serve the current regime, the CCP has made a practice of altering and concealing historical truth. The CCP in its propaganda and publications has rewritten history for periods from as early as the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 B.C.) and the Warring States period (475–221 B.C.) to as recently as the Cultural Revolution.

Such historical alterations have continued for the more than 50 years since 1949, and all efforts to restore historical truth have been ruthlessly blocked and eliminated by the CCP.

        • A GUY

I agree with you, but i think your understanding of America’s reasons for military build-up are a lot askew. The US built up to counteract soviet aggression. The US does not build up in order to take land. Not since the rough riders has that been the case. The US does not attack for the purpose of obtaining oil. I’m sure some people are saying, but Hollywood movies tell me that America is all about oil” so I will cite some examples of why this is not the case. (this is a long rant so if you don’t need selling on this point scroll down to the next set of stars ************************************************
In Kuwait Saddam promises the US 10 dollar barrels of oil till he was dead and the US helped the Kuwaitis instead for, bum bum bah!! no oil contracts no reduction in fuel price and no actual benefit that could anyway compare to the fruits of the promise Saddam made. In Iraq the second time America went in under “false pretenses” because bad intelligence led the US to think that Saddam had WMDs that he had repeatedly hinted at having and wanting to use. Mistake yes, shameful yes, but about oil NO!!! Private investors in the US wanted to jump on oil contracts and salivated at the prospects in Iraq, this is true, and this is documented in several heavy handed one-sided documentaries made around the world. What those documentaries don’t show is that despite all the wants of American investors the Iraqi government was given the decision to whom they would make sales and no military arm bending was applied to encourage them to sell to American firms or give US companies contracts to develop their oil. Beneficiaries of America’s invasion by oil volume and contracts, China, Europe, and Japan America comes in very far down and pays the same or more than all the others. Afghanistan has Mineral resources this is true but the US went there because they harbored Al’Qaeda no other reason and those contacts that wont bear fruit until much later when Afghanistan is finally peaceful. Those contracts will and are going to other countries by and large.
          ****************************************************
If The US is not out there for Oil and land then what is the purpose of US staying?

In Europe: America is there till the Europeans stop being pussies and can deal with things that happen in there own back yards. Look up what the Europeans have done in the Balkans in the past or should I say not done. Last time the US let Europe handle the monsters in their own backyard Genocide went unchecked till the US finally had enough and squashed that shit. On the other hand ask yourself who would fill the power vacuum in Eastern Europe sans America. Russia would love to freely threaten all of “its” old territories back into submission, without regard for the wishes of the people there. Yeah Russian style Democracy spreads. (ask Pussy riot how that feels)

In the Middle east: America has an interest in stability there for three reasons.
1: Israel: I don’t know if it should be there or not or whose land it is, but a-lot of Americans are pro- Israel if you have a problem with that I got no answer for you cause it’s probably a religion thing and I don’t care.
2: Oil: I know I said it doesn’t matter and I meant it but, the countries I mentioned before that benefit from American deaths and peacekeeping efforts in the Middle east, while simultaneously criticizing the US for it are important to the world Economy, and if they run out of Oil the whole world falls into a deeper recession.
3: America cares about the people of the world. You may not believe it but America wants the whole world to be prosperous and free and some people have mistakenly (looking at you GW) tried to force this ascension with military might (the real motivator for GW). American’s genuinely get angry at oppression even when that oppression is against their own interests (The Ambassador in Libya was there “because he loved the Libyan people” and wanted them to flourish. I know it’s all sentimental and the above two reasons sometimes override this (Hosni Mubarak etc..) because the reality of taking out the tyrants can often be worse for the people than leaving them there. (look’in at Iraq 3 years ago thinking was that worth it?) So the US makes delicate choices because their inaction or action in every instance is judged by other powers that can’t or wont bear the responsibility.

Asia: “Peace in the region”. Ask yourself this question if America left would South Korea not be invaded, Would Japan not be attacked by the Chinese in some crazed land grab, would Vietnam be safe from Chinese aggression, or India, Would all the countries of Asia be subjugated by a country that cares nothing about and actively denies the benefits of freedom and democracy?
America thinks all those things would happen, they stay in Asia because they want prosperity, peace, and Democracy because they are good for everyone, not just themselves.

Your characterization of America’s military build-up are wrong and so is your characterization of America’s sustained military presence. They are in these places for Ideals not benefits. It is American Democracy that has to keep America’s intentions pure, and I hope for it everyday. I hope America will elect good people to office so that America will remain a force for good and not a blundering behemoth (like in the Bush era) I hope one day America will be able to bring all of it’s soldier’s home.

          • BigJ

Not about oil???really?? All about oil. You got to lay off the CNN man. :)

          • A GUY

CNN like i’d watch that smut. American news is crap, they aren’t living up to their potential. If you think it’s all about oil what is your rebuttal then? To say that it has absolutely nothing to do with oil would be a lie, but to characterize it as the main force behind decisions (the common misunderstanding) is just plain false.

I propose that the sustainment of the global economy, and the spread of liberal democracy are the key motivating factors in American decisions. There are times when these two conflict, and sadly sometimes American’s forget their principals (Trade wars with China and Guantanamo), but all-in-all America cares about these things first and any breaking with this is an aberration and the result of the irrational fears of the populace driving poor decisions making. (why I say the US needs to have leaders that know how to not do those things.)

PS: The military industrial complex has lost much of it’s clout these days. It is the Commercial industrial complex that is trying to run things now. All bow to Wal-Mart and Apple!!!!!!!! Boeing who????

          • BigJ

OK, if they go attack Iraq because of “WMD’s”…Then why is America not fucking North Korea right now? It’s not profitable. Iraq will be profitable in the end. And if America just went in and started fucking shit up in Iraq with no valid reason, The world would hate America even more. You have justify your actions, America knows this.

For example: There is a guy I don’t really like and I want something he has. Well if I just go in start bashing his face in and then take his shit, i’m in the wrong and everyone hate me and may try to beat me up. So, If I say this guy is child molester, then not only can I beat the fuck out of him, People will help me. :)

          • A GUY

My answer to is this: A shit ton of arsenal aimed directly at Seoul. If it weren’t for that the US would blow those pig fucks away.

You speculate that Iraq will be profitable to the states. Is it ever going to be Trillions worth it? NO. I ask you who has those contracts? Germans, Chinese, and French companies that’s who.
The U.S. had lots of legitimate reasons for wanting to blow Saddam sky high, the WMD’s were something that the Bush administration had to believe in to do it. I don’t think they lied. They just demanded to see what they wanted to see and fell for Saddam’s phony posturing. America went there cause they mustered the political will to do so, something they hadn’t had till 911 gave them that. I don’t think it was the right move, but the motivations were noble not in any way shape or form OIL.

          • linette

The middle east countries worry me the most. Not China or USA. They actually need each other to balance out their power and keep each other in check. The middle east countries will most likely cause wwIII with their nuclear weapons. With all the suicide bombers and all. They are also breeding like rabbits. No plans for population control. They are also anti christian so you know what will happen if they take control. If USA and China don’t stay as world power together. Those middel east countries will get stronger and one day challenge USA and China.

          • BigJ

Let’s just say if there wasn’t any oil in Iraq. Do you think America would have done the same thing? Go through all that trouble?
You don’t become the most powerful nation in the world being a good samaritan.

I agree with you on your points, it’s just I keep thinking there has to be some alternative motive for the things they do.:)

And about the Korea thing….yeah you are right about that. They are rat shit crazy and will do things that the west will not.
No one wants to call north Korea’s bluff. :)

          • A GUY

I never denied that oil plays a part, like I said before. The oil isn’t important cause America needs it, it’s important cause other nations do, and if a despot like Saddam wants to control most of it he could extinguish the hopes for freedom in the region and have the world economy by the balls. Oil isn’t entirely out of the equation but it is just a supporting element for the sustained global prosperity and eventual democratization of the world. Yes I believe in it too, I just don’t think armed conflict is the best way to go about it in most situations.

            @ Linette.
You got problems that shit was pretty racist.
But I do agree if China reforms they would be an asset to the world politically and help to maintain peace and stability.

This Kurihara family, obviously a Japanese name…. What’s the story with these guys? How did they get ownership of the islands? Was it passed down through the generations? (Japanese) Or did the Chinese trade the islands for a few of the Kurihara daughters? I’m confused!

How the hell was Senkaku Island which is part of Ryuku Kingdom ever a Chinese territory????

Why are the Chinese people so easily brainwashed by the Chinese government.
Also we the people should not be sooooo idiotic to have negative emotions against each other over some territory no one lives in.

Stop hate! Stop war! Hoping for forever lasting friendship between China and Japan! Peace!

    • Nick in Beijing

Good sentiment. If you really are a Japanese guy then kudos for the comment.

That being said I have met many Japanese who profess a desire for friendship with China. Only met a handful of Chinese who expressed the same desire.

so how many ryukuan were actually living on that island in the past?
chinese claim that the island were part of taiwan before the handover to japan after sino japanese war.

      • A GUY

No one lived there until, there was a bonito processing plant there in 1900. But it is telling that the first Chinese (1535) record was in a document called “Record of the Imperial Envoy’s Visit to Ryūkyū” in 1785’s “Illustrated Description of Three Countries” they are mentioned in the part describing Ryukyu.

The only argument they can make is that the entire Ryukyus are theirs. And the rest of the world and the Ryukyuans will not let that happen.

    “Taiwanese Netizen Reactions”
    “Taiwanese”

    “Taiwanese”

Yes, you have read right. It is

    “TAIWANESE”

Fucking american scum, how do you like your little democratic freedom-loving, non-brainwashed, suppossedly non-Chinese, and non-communist island democratic Taiwan being so hostile against the Japanese, so that they even send heavier armed ships to the DIAOYUTAI than the PRC did?

Sucks to be you. Your neat little simplicistic world of black and white doesnt work anymore as two (potentially three, as South Korea also has beef with Japan related to islands) US KEY ALLIES gang up on your precious Japan.

Freedom vs. Freedom, Blue vs. Blue.

This is the reality of asia today.

The winner is China, who doesnt have to lift a single finger for the US anti-Chinese alliance in asia to crumble with their own internal rivalries. Freedom doesnt cure historical injustice and doesnt make asian people forget that the Americunts are the one’s who took the side of and protected Japanese imperialists to this day.

    SUCK IT, AMERICUNTS!

Asians are stupid. They are not as smart as the westerners who did all their robbing and pillaging hundreds of years ago before all this liberal shit. That’s why they don’t have to have citizens march on the stree, they don’t have to play no nationalist games. Everything about them is just that much more mature and developed. China and her system sucks, has sucked for hundreds of years. backwards people and culture. Anyway, now the westerners can safely stand behind their banners and their moral high grounds and laugh at all you slanty eyed fucks. LMAO. And laugh at the retarded Muslims. LMAO. • Kuro

something I dont get … in this article it says they are buying the island from a Japanese family from Saitama, meaning… the islands were already in Japanese power…Why Chinese get so angry then?? I get it the precious islands were theirs before… but if currently the papers of the islands were under the name of a japanese family… then why??
Also the “boycott” japanese products … right … u all gonna break all the tvs, videogames, phones, cars u have and also gonna stop watching Japanese porn… right?

    • Efe the foreigner

dude, i dont get it either. but maybe the chinese rioting in chengdu know. they have been destroying japanese cars, restaurants, stores, and a bunch of other random shit that really has nothing to do with japan for a few weeks now. they must know….. but, pry not.

thank god i live in the country side, these people just wanna drink baijiu and play mahjong.

      • Kuro

things are ok here in Shanxi too … but just saw some pics of Qingdao,Beijing and Xi’an … seems serious… it sucks, those were my options for the national day holiday

        • Efe the foreigner

rather sad. they even destroyed and looted some 7-11 shops in chengdu, which baffles me. maybe because they sell asahi beer? and now, all the people with japanese cars have these bumper stickers that say “forgive me, i bought this car before the japanese stole our islands”.

Sichuan is still a great place for a holiday, just stay outta chengdu, i could recommend some good places to go.

          • tai wai

they even destroyed and looted some 7-11 shops in chengdu, which baffles me.

In the 1980s, the company encountered financial difficulty, selling off its ice division, and was rescued from bankruptcy by Ito-Yokado, its largest franchisee. In 1987, John Philp Thompson, the CEO of 7-Eleven, completed a $5.2 billion management buyout of the company his father had founded.[9] The buyout suffered from the 1987 stock market crash and after failing initially to raise high yield debt financing, the company was required to offer a portion of the company’s stock as an inducement to invest in the company’s bonds.[10][11]

The Japanese company gained a controlling share of 7-Eleven in 1991,[7] during the Japanese asset bubble of the early 1990s. Ito-Yokado formed Seven & I Holdings Co. and 7-Eleven became its subsidiary in 2005. In 2007, Seven & I Holdings announced it would be expanding their American operations, with an additional 1,000 7-Eleven stores in the United States.

          • anon

7-11 is a Japanese company. Has been for a long time.

          • Efe the foreigner

ah, well. now i understand, thanks. but why do you know so much about the history of 7-11?

          • BigJ

7-11 is the greatest thing known to man.

          • A GUY

Lawson’s is far superior to 7-11.

    • Capt. WED

because the ownership is disputed. And for historical reasons. For one the place was annexed during the era of China “humiliation”, during the era of gunboat diplomacy. In the year 2012 China has the resources & power to play the game that they want to play. Westerners love to point their fingers and laugh. The thing is you guys don’t have to do any of this shit because you did your robbing and pillaging already and you have a firm strategic foundation. You CAN stand on higher “moral” ground because of the actions of the past. The point you make decisions and those decisions has consequences.

On the same note why can’t we move forward, like why can’t we forget the past etc. Well it’s a two person game. Both sides are selfish. Both side only sees their own interests. It’s the story of.. ahh nevermind. Fuck it. The world is fascist.

Laughing your ass off yet white person?

      • A GUY

Yep. Just like the Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mung, Taiwanese, Mongolians, ETC can sit back and judge because of…… ohhhh!!!

He WAS not playing fair yesterday but has truly reformed and now is my chance to cheat. When does it end you turd?? This is shit you should have learned is wrong in kindergarten.

I’m no wasp and alot of the people who contribute to my Heritage were not oppressors and were the oppressed I don’t sit on their misdeeds, I sit atop their willingness to fight against tyranny, and the glory that is modern democracy that gave them the opportunity to take those rights without arms, I judge from a country that has made a conscious choice to believe in equality and try to atone for it’s past sins, that’s where I judge from.

I can sympathize with the feeling of humiliation and the scars that that leaves on a people, but I don’t forgive the behavior that is born from the same mentality that humiliated them in the first place.

Laughing yet you facist apologist fuck?

        • Capt. WED

I was saying there are reasons for things being the way there are, I wasn’t justifying Chinese nationalism or whatever with your ancestor did it! I was simply point out that your society has a rock solid foundation–western civilization. Part of that foundation is built on years of colonialism, whether you like it or not involved conquering other people, taking lands, taking resources, killing, etc. It’s not a question of their willingness to fight tyranny. Besides that whole fighting for tyranny thing came much later after you have already built a rock solid foundation. Not to mention the fact I’m not sure which tyranny thing you are talking about and it’s starting to sound like rhetoric. I guess it’s hard for you to take this because now I”m talking about the entire western civilization rather than just America. Where did modern democracy come from? No one is saying you have to pay for the past or whatever. I’m just saying you are reaping the benefits from earlier times. You can say the things you say precisely because of the past. The fuck do you think I”m saying?

This also means from it will be extremely hard for you to see it from my point of view. You hate Chinese people for hating Japanese people. I say without being YOU it’s hard for them to not to hate. Especially with everything involved for both sides both Japan and China. For example YOU (if you are American) never had a outside invasion on your homeland. You never lost a war militarily. YOu never had your entire city raped and merked. You say so what China did that to other people too. Exactly but the situation and history is different. Beside I said China is not developed as you are developed. Anyway just because Chinese people hate Japanese people doesn’t mean it’s going to escalate into major war. You can hate us Chinese, a lot of people already do. We’re not perfect, we deserve the hate too. As for other people, they hate Chinese too. They’re justified in their hatred.

You don’t have to sympathize. We’re the way we are because we just are. If we’re different we won’t be CHinese lol.

I don’t see what your points is. You hate us for the stupid shit we do. Good for you.

          • Capt. WED

beside why are you getting your panties in twisted.

Chinese government is playing with fire. They’re playing a dangerous game with nationalism here. But then again maybe they’re smart and playing Chinese people like a fiddle.

The hatred is there. But look there are many people on (on blogs and various forms of media) condemning the violence. There are still rational people left. Also in terms of numbers of incidients vs. number of people in China it’s not really that high. In terms of how big the riots are it’s nothing compared to real riots where city BLOCKS burn and hundreds of stores betting looted. It’s no where near that level. Also don’t forget Japanese are not directly affected by the looting, Chinese themselves are the ones hurting.

Oh I see. Got to keep that whole fighting for tyranny show going in YOUR OWN HEAD.

            Fuck yourself Go.

I don’t hate Chinese people, I hate the blind nationalism, the lack of faith in themselves, and their inability to let go of the past. My reasons are vague cause I don’t like to give out identifying info readily like my national origin and race. I am mixed but that is as far as I will go.
I may have misread what you said a little, and got much riled up but I’m tired of the way history is used to forgive present misbehavior.
I can forgive and still love the Chinese people, and I understand the history well, but I will not make excuses for how they are acting or act like it is in any way rational or acceptable.

The irony in this is that they are hurting their own Chinese people. Maybe this is a good wakeup call for everyone to move their investment and businesses out of China. They are fools to believe that they are the only game in town. There many other Asian markets, such as Vietnam, Phillipines, & India that will welcome your business. How can you trust a government like this, that encourages violence and hatred.

The ongoing demonstration looks like showing antagonisic feelings towards japan, but it is not.
Most of the japanese see the demonstration as a movement of anti-rich people. That means, ccp.
Japanese stores in china r destroyed and also dior and rolex r destroyed.
I hope this movement will make china more democratic.

      • Taikongren

        Hi,

No. Most Japanese see it as anti-Japanese. And they clearly see how uterly stupid many Chinese can be.

    • Nick in Beijing

All those links were blocked at the time when I tried to look at them (see message time stamp).

I have seen them last night on weibo probably though, burning buildings, hundreds of smashed cars, the few good Samaritans that exist in China holding up signs on the road side trying to deter people who own Japanese cars from entering certain parts of the cities where gangs are roaming.

Karate Kid 2 can sort this out…..

As it turns out, before there was a Mrs. Miyagi in an internment camp, there was a love in Okinawa named Yukie. Mr.Miyagi fell in love with Yukie , and she with him, but according to old Japanese tradition, Yukie was betrothed to another man. That other man happened to be Mr. Miyagi’s childhood friend and fellow student of his father’s karate, Sato!!!. Sato was enraged and demanded that Miyagi face him in a fight to the death in ordered to recover his tattered honor. Miyagi knew that his father didn’t teach them karate to use against each other in a death match, and he also didn’t want to fight and potentially kill his best friend.

Sato demands that the two of them face off immediately or dire consequences will be suffered. Miyagi, of course, refuses to fight. When his father finally does pass away, Sato gives Miyagi three days to mourn, and an ultimatum: fight or the village will be plowed under.

For me, the worst offense The Karate Kid II commits is cheating its viewers out of a true Miyagi/Sato throwdown, instead favoring Daniel and crazy Chozen at the dance festival. There’s absolutely no suspense to this fight; we know exactly how it will go. Not even Miyagi’s foreboding advice about this not being a tournament can help. We know Daniel will start off poorly against a physically superior opponent, that Chozen will gain a significant advantage and look like he’s about to win, and that Daniel will pull out some supposedly indefensible move and win. This one’s nowhere near as cool as the crane kick which Daniel-san subjected each other to on a regular basis post-1984. This time, Daniel’s big move is sort of like a power bitch slap, inspired by some drum toy that the entire village apparently totes around at all times. How exactly was this move supposed to be indefensible? It’s not the unpredictability of the climactic showdown that ruins it; it’s the lack of emotional punch that accompanies it.

So you see. China and Japan should just be friends. HAHAHAA

    • linette

Big J, you like watching karate kid? I only watched the first one.

      • BigJ

I only like the second one :) It’s pretty good, Mr.Miyagi and Daniel san goes to Okinawa!!! It’s intense. :)

        • linette

The second part is the one he fell in love with a japanese girl right? I don’t remember.

          • BigJ

Yep, that’s the one. And he fights that crazy Jap at the end :)

  • Passerby

Why can’t most of the people just understand the chinese sentiments against the japanese is because of the Nanjing incident? The statement against Linette about her living in US stating a facts about true colours…well the same can be said foreigners that’s working and living in China posting anti Chinese remarks here…. lame.

    • BigJ

People understand it. America dropped a fucking atom bomb on the japs, and they are best friends now. Instead of stirring more shit….they should try to find ways to to settle things. Not just China but Japan too.

      • linette

…………..America dropped a fucking atom bomb on the japs, and they are best friends now…………….

What?? I don’t understand what you are saying? So in order to be friend with japan China needs to drop an Atomic bomb on Japan? huh??
Japanese people are no doubt very wild and a bit crazy. ;)

        • BigJ

It’s very easy to understand. I was making the point that america and japan did fucked up things to each other, and today they are friends. They don’t dwell on things that happened 70 years ago. They don’t rehash old shit all the time. They would be in the same situation as japan and china if every time one of them did the littlest thing to each other they bring up pearl harbor or hiroshima. No one forgets it, but they made peace and now help each other.

          • C84

I don’t think that Japan and USA are true “friends” or “allies.” Japan is allowing the US to station all those troops/ships/bases in their country because they know exactly what will happen if the US was not there. Poor little Japan will be surrounded by all these countries that absolutely hate it, and would love nothing more than for it to be nuked out of existence. The USA, on the other hand, stations its troops in Japan, not because of kindness or benevolence, but because that’s how they maintain their hegemony and their influence in Asia – with the threat of military force. So the two countries’ goals are not the same, but how they get to their differing goals happens to be accomplished by the same strategic move – the US “military alliance” with Japan.

          • Brett Hunan

It’s a nice game of “harmony” the American’s are playing with Japan.

    • Taikongren

Its not about Nanjing Massacre. That happened 70 years ago. How long will Chinese people play that victim card? This conflict is about the Chinese people are being bitches. They are reveling in historical victimhood to justify militancy. Everyone on Earth can point to massacres and horrible things that happened in the past to justify current feelings. But those who actually do this are fascist. Unfortunately, Chinese media has been fostering fascism for year. When can I turn on a TV and not see some show about the struggle against Japan?

The Diaoyu Islands came under Japan’s control in 1895. If Ming Dynasty ownership presents a legitamate claim (and it does not under any law), then Mongolia, Okhinawa, and Vietnam would also be part of China. Its the same illigitamate justification that China used to take over Tibet. No one agrees with it. The difference between using that justification with Tibet and Japan is this: Japan has a large military and is protected by treaty by the United States. Both countries has larger naval forces than China’s So when the dumbshits talk about using force, what they are actually talking about is getting into a war with the United States.

Just in case you don’t know, the only way China can defeat the USA is by nullifying American air superiority. And the way to do that is to use tactical nuclear cruise missiles on the US fleet and stations in Japan. US Admirals and war-planners know this, and hence it is part of their doctrin to launch a nuclear first-strike against China if there is war. So when Chinese are talking about “not backing down” against Japan, they are talking about risking nuclear war. Does that seem rational?

      • Comebackkid13

        Very good points.

    • Disgusted

      @Passerby

I think you fail to to realize is that the topic is about the Sendaku/ Daioyu Islands, not about Nanking. Linette was given equal opportunity to present her factual views. She was encouraged to have an open transparent factual discussion on this subject. What she presented was an unrelated racist generalization of Japanese people, unsubstantiated historical claims and untrue recent incidents. There was no real facts presented.

Your analogy of foreigners that’s working and living in China posting anti Chinese remarks here is also unproven and a fallacy…is the same type of generalizations which I might add is what got her in an argument in the first place ….

      • linette

Disgusted, oh be quiet,… blablabla…..go eat sashimi. By the way. Japanese stole the sashimi a traditional food from the Chinese. What a bunch of thieves. ;)

        • Cooljackal

Maybe, but would you rather eat chinese sashimi or japanese sashimi now? :)

        • moop

sashimi was not invented by the chinese, neither was sushi. i’ve heard retards in this country claim that they invented the hamburger and pizza. sashimi and sushi in its modern form are japanese. sushi, which has its roots in fish preserved with fermented rice (developed in south east asia, not china) changed into the sushi we know today in japan

          • Cooljackal

My neighbor just told me that China invented Japan.

          • John Snow

I am sure China invented USA and Russia as well.

  • Kim Jung iLL

China must been rape too much in the past that now they want to resort everything to violence. Threaten military action in Diayu island against Japan, Taiwan against independence, Philipines and Vietnam for Spratly island. The best way is of course to bring this issues to international court peacefully with relevant parties which China refuse. This left me to wonder if China really have all the evidence to proof she is the owner.

  • Owbak

As a Trinidadian, I’m shocked by the unprovoked atrocities
that the Japs inflicted on the Chinese. I join you in boycotting

million Japs bully you. I feel happy to see the destruction

prey on the Chinese. The Germans and Koreans make better
cars, TV’s, ships than the Japs.

Man, you don’t give a fuck about Chinese people. You just want sell some bullshit to them to their eyes look like a white persons. And person stupid enough to put your” special blend of herbs and spices” on their face is retarded. And what a way to help Chinese by making them look less Chinese.
