Floating Chinese Government Officials Inspect New Road

Floating Chinese government officials "inspect" a repaired road in Huili county of Sichuan province, China.

From Tianya:

Too fake, my county’s propaganda photo (Huili government website has already publicized an apology)

Today I had nothing to do so I decided to visit my county government’s website. The front page news item was about the high standard repair of the public road that passes through the rural country but upon clicking and seeing the photo, I spit out half a liter of blood!

This kind of image even I who can’t be any more amateur than I am can tell it is PSed, and they even thought it was a good idea to put it on the home page, even putting it as the topmost/first item! Perhaps it is because they don’t think anyone will look at their home page!

Comments from Tianya:

此人被封上百ID:

The number of people in the government who can do actual work are too few, they don’t even have anyone who can PS.

耳朵在左边:

Boss, if you couldn’t find someone who knows how to PS, you could’ve asked me!

my1389955:

Let me ask everyone something,
is there actually an intelligence requirement for the public servants exam?
I’m really baffled~~~

年度最佳的我:

Ghosts! They don’t even have a shadow!
Ghosts! They don’t even have a shadow!
Ghosts! They don’t even have a shadow!
Ghosts! They don’t even have a shadow!

西北雄鹰:

This fully illustrates the conflict between the masses’ increasing intelligence and the government officials continuously declining morality.

瞌小C:

= = … The person who made this photo is about to meet misfortune…

chukuangdao:

Truly fucking fake, they don’t even have the time to go out [and visit the site], or are they afraid of getting beaten to death by people if they were to appear in public?

milan23:

Just as expected it has been harmonized, the government website can’t be opened/loaded.

江上渔楼岗京:

The government leaders originally thought no one would really look at the website, so they just thought they could just make do with PSing a photo, never imagining that the masses’ eyes are so sharp.

markboy2003:

Do you still need to ask? One look and you know a temporary worker was responsible…

Such poor quality, tomorrow he’ll be fired. After all, he’s just a temporary worker.

[Embarrassing mistakes made by companies or the government in China are often blamed on mysterious “temporary” workers.]

j00170:

Ding the post until it is famous so it’ll get on CCTV news! Haha

The Photoshops

In addition to uniformly ridiculing the poorly Photoshopped government photo, Chinese netizens began creating their own Photoshops which started simple by highlighting the government officials’ apparently floatation/levitation but then became increasingly ridiculous…

More Photoshops

Below is a larger collection of Photoshops making fun of the “floating government officials” found throughout the Chinese internet on popular discussion forums such as Tianya and Mop as well as microblog services like Sina Weibo. For many, you will have to pay attention to the titles and captions to understand the joke. Some you will recognize from recent Chinese internet news stories such as the recent flooding in Beijing, the Wuhan matchmaking event for the rich, and Guo Meimei or old ones like the Stories of Hotel Rooms in China. Others may be a bit more obscure.

    that’s so funny!
    i can not stop laughing…
if those photo studioes can learn 10% creativity then their bussines would be much better…
    hahaha…………

  • Justin

These photoshopped images are pretty funny and creative. I was particularly impressed by the Obama one and the ones where they were photoshopped into historical images.

    • Money

      Love that Obama one!

      • Mr penquin

The Obama one is actually another movie clip with him kicking in a door after press conference, firstly banned by USgov on video sites, to be later let go. ah well, US gov…China gov, not to different.
This one and many others are very funny indeed.

    • SonnyHack

i don’t know if you understand chinese, i just think the title of the historical one is much more amusing, it reads:”our county’s leaders went to Yalta to direct anti-fascism work”.

  • anon
    • fouManChu

Good eyes, my first pass just glanced over it. It seems to be some kind of ancient advanced ladyboy technology. Chinese people are in their own sneaky way nearly as perverted as the Japanese.

    • hoots

it is a scene from the 3D ‘porn’ move Sex and Zen. It came out in Hong Kong earlier this year. It’s pretty awesome. go see it if you can.

      • Leo

WHAT’S UP WITH THAT HUGE PHALLUS?
        WAHAHAHAHA WTF.

        CANNOT UNSEE.

        • hoots

you gotta see the movie. the main character has a donkey dick transplant and bangs like everyone ever. in 3D

  • Appalled@everything

Absolutely awesome post!!! great find Tianya!

It would probably a difficult thing to do, but someone should photoshop an image of Gou Meimei with her African-American boyfriend together holding up a photo of their son in a crowded courtroom as the female judge roasts a live puppy in front of a jury of “Honorable guests” who have paid 99,999yuan each to attend and sit on cheap garden furniture, while the elderly bailiff lovingly embraces his young grandchild and smiles for the camera, and of course these 3 government “officials” should be inspecting the scene.

  • http://www.livethelanguage.cn Natalie

These guys came by our last BBQ. They were particularly impressed with the 串.

Look carefully at the one where the officials levitate via helicopter.

I had a good laugh when I saw their shadows.

    • Dr. Dust Cell

      chuckled at that too

    • Tengu

Never noticed it until you mentioned it, then I shot coffee out my nose.

      • SonnyHack

Yea me too, those are pigs!!! haha

what’s up with this one ? i didnt get it

  • guobao2

The Jalta Conference one had me in stitches. I think this is the true modern Chinese way of making fun of stuff. It’s not always pretty, but some of them are pure gold. And it seems the government is pretty relaxed about this kind of mockery.

  • FYIADragoon

I had no idea Obama was Captain Falcon.

  • Seboji

have never seen Chinese make fun with their president, but they are quick in making fun of America presidents…what does it mean? anyone can dare tell me

    • Boris

It means that Chinese people are justifyably cautious about what they post on the internet. Which in turn means that a hit squad is about to burst into your apartment to brutally sodomise you.

      • Alan

        Well said Boris…

    • Mr penquin

as mentioned somewhere else already, the Obama movie is a movie on it’s own and used here again, made by some guy in Europe, you know the ‘country’ on the other side of the Atlantic ocean.
If you care to have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3SFXQfE4kk funstuff :)

    • SonnyHack

oh you have no idea. check this one:http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=983993007
and there are others but i can’t find them now, like one gangster style picture in which many of those leaders get half-naked with tattoos on their bodies holding machetes, and it reads “we’ve been on the streets once”.

  • http://candosino.wordpress.com terroir

That’s some great photoshop: someone must have spent a lot of time making one extremely unstylish person look like three different yet equally unstylish people. Is the “clone” stamp that sophisticated now?

    • Alikese

If the guy on the right pulled his pants up any higher he’d have to make arm holes in them.

      • http://candosino.wordpress.com terroir

The older, richer and more respected you are, the higher your waistband is.

These guys wouldn’t even be able to get served alcohol at a roadside Applebee’s, but here they be gods: even the sun dare not shine upon them to cast shadows.

      You mean Chinese leaders?

      • Appalled@everything

I think they meant laughing / poking fun at China’s leaders.

        • http://www.lovelovechina.com Crystal

One can be proud of the country in which the leaders can levitate!

  • Jones

“spit out half a liter of blood” made me laugh. The photoshop jobs at the bottom made me laugh even more.

  • tengu

Love this. Great work, very funny PS. Great laughs…

@ Justin …the historical ones were the best.

  • Adjutant

    Hillarious.

The original source pictures are perfectly fine and do, in fact, show them inspecting newly paved roads. Why was photoshop necessary?

    • SonnyHack

maybe the site editor can’t find a picture which he thought was good enough, but the PS is just as bad.

  • http://unblockfacebookinchina.info/access-facebook-in-china Rod

Ha, these are quite good. I’m sometimes surprised at the stuff that circulates on the Chinese internet. I know China’s not the oppressed country that the West makes it out to be, but I think photoshopping your government officials into porn or sucking want is pretty ballsy in China.

  • http://candosino.wordpress.com terroir

Great post. As this has brought out the best in Chinese netizens, this has brought out the best in Fauna/chinaSMACK.

Story UPDATE: Xinhua has reported that the Huili government has posted an official apology on their weibo, something about a “clerical error” in which the doctored photo was posted on the website “by accident”; the photographer apologized by saying they didn’t have enough “good shots” from the shoot, and so went PS’ing.
I’d link ya, but you can find it yourself. And it’s past 12, for the love of smiling Buddha’s pest, links just don’t connect at this hour.

This looks sill and I got a good laugh. What’s the problem? I don’t think they actually thought for a second that people would take this seriously. At least I hope not…

You gotta love how you cant get away with anything on the web without getting caned for it if you screw up.

This is great. I particularly like that a Dallas Injury Attorney found it amusing…I guess that means I can find it amusing too…anything for the sake of SEO, right Mr. Tate?
