18-Meter High “Flying Apsara” Flower-Decorated Sculpture Appears in Urumchi

August 13, the newly completed, tallest, and largest flower-decorated sculpture at the intersection of Santunbei Bahaer Road in Urumqi of Xinjiang province, the “Flying Apsara“, has drawn attention and heated discussion from netizens nationwide. Some think the sculpture’s design is new and original, while others think the woman at the top of the sculpture should be beautified.

On Sina Weibo:

@华商晨报: 18-Meter Tall “Fly Apsara” Sculpture Creates Controversy: Urumqi’s newly completed “Flying Apsara” sculpture is covered with heavy makeup and color, with silk ribbons and colorful balls hung around its body. According to some netizens’ opinion, there is some disparity between the aesthetic standards of the city management department and the aesthetic standards of the masses. A spokesperson for the government department responsible says, from a professional perspective, the “Flying Apsara” model may be considered relatively plump, and the overall proportions are very good. From iyaxin.com. Do you think it looks good? [想一想]

Good thing it’s tall, [because] if were short, having to look at this face every day would scare people to death… [黑线]

Looks familiar, often seen at funerals. [思考]

阿光家的佐佐:

Looks like one of those paper women you burn for the dead [in Chinese tradition, people burn stuff like money, houses, cars, clothes, servants, etc. — which are all made of paper — for the deceased, with the idea that the deceased could use these things in their world].

薛愤愤:

It looks like a shoddy inflatable doll.

12舟舟:

Unbelievably ugly, utterly frightening.

哥们儿会武术:

From this we can see the government has truly decided to correct the real estate market… residential buildings are right next to it…

Leaving whether it’s beautiful or ugly aside, why are those arms so short?

So gluing on a paper doll is art? Truly JB disgusting, it’d have been better if they had put one of those dragons made by the funeral service people instead.

So ugly! This is no Flying Apsara, it’s crap.

小虎纹:

It’s not that the leader has bad aesthetic taste, but rather that the person who made this thing is probably his relative.

蓝弦小居网:

People who live in the residential buildings behind [the sculpture], do you not have nightmares at night? My deepest sympathies…

爵士马高:

“The government department responsible”? “From a professional perspective”? Could there be anything more disgusting? [衰]

The ZF truly has more money than they know what to do with. They either support foreign countries [with the money], or they make things like this for the ordinary common people to make fun of.

Definitely unique aesthetic taste! But they’re probably not satisfied with the boobs, too small.

Maybe they should worry about the decaying environment and the beauty that holds instead of paying their attention to ugly statues.

A distraction, my friend. That’s why the government did this.

Many, many Chinese have no sense of style or taste. Especially the older generation.

We’re currently decorating our house. We just want it done simply, modern style. The decorators, however, keep wanting to sell us color changing chandeliers and crap. Fancy! Looks like a KTV!

They even put some hideous flower tiles in out bathrooms that we did not ask for or want.

The middle-aged lady that runs the convenience store down the street is also decorating her new apartment. She LOVES that ugly crap.

        • eddie9684

some chinese people are not able to understand that simple is better.

think of ikea maybe? their style is simple and modern, quality wise, they suck.

          • anon

Beauty is subjective. If everyone had taste and style, the words would lose their meaning. It’s not like the average Joe or his home in any other country is particularly stylish either. Aesthetic taste and sense can be acquired, and its acquired more easily for some than others. I wouldn’t begrudge the older Chinese generation of not having taste either. When you grew up in relative poverty, functional possessions is more important than making sure everything is color coordinated and looks like a modern day IKEA catalogue. I bet most of our own parents and grandparents aren’t particularly fashionable (mine sure aren’t and weren’t). Fashion is an indulgence for those with means.

        • kodi

I can empathize with you on this brother. Thats one part of modernity the older generation will never get. If you need a consultant to crack the whip on your builders give me a call. I can’t change the way they think, but I am not scared to fire their asses and hire someone who can do exactly what you want.

  • Nanny Hiccups

they think everything is ugly dont’ they?

    • Northerner

Not quite. They haven’t mastered the art of self reflection yet.

      • John

        Not sure about that.

      • Nanny Hiccups

Who are they? We must be talking about different people.

  • Brett Hunan

How much do you want to bet it wasn’t a Uyghur who thought this up?

    • Glowndark

off course not, it comes from Han, you bet, to scare off the Uyghur and take over their land and oil. yes, it’s all cruel and ugly, but all thoughts considered, it’s better than invading sovereign countries dropping bombs using remote control on children’s hospitals killing the civilians in some sandniggas country.

      • mr. wiener

Using the word “sandnigga” does not automatically make you seem tough and worldly. In fact it sends a mixed massage because on the one hand you are deriding The US for being international bullies and then you are showing quite casual and callous intolerance and bigotry towards the victims of this aggression.
Where do you stand on this or do you hate both sides?

        • i hate all sand countries and i want all of them including Australia and Israel to be nuked

          Maybe he’ll find Jin there.

      • Young Man

Well that’s the whole point of the username. Youngman- clearly a Village People reference. I was going to call myself ‘Karl Hungus’ but that may be a little over people’s heads.

There are no other websites which translate the chinese internet. If i want to know what’s going on I don’t have a lot of other sources. This site used to be good, perhaps the lack of good articles reflects the crackdown on the Chinese internet by the authorities. But I think Chinasmack needs to take a long hard look at themselves and make up their minds as to whether translating garbage chinese pop songs is really a good use of their time.

That’s my opinion- I’ll keep visiting (and keep posting) in the hope that there’ll be an improvement. Chinasmack can always ban me if they don’t like that.

        • mr. wiener

          Hope springs eternal.
I just don’t want your Karl Hungus hanging over our heads :)

        • Young Man… chinaSMACK has no problems with:
          1. Hugh Genitals
          2. Will Hung
          3. Carlos L. Schlong
          …and these are mild…

          • Young Man

            It’s a Big Lebowski reference.

Logjammin’ starring Karl Hungus- a Jackie Treehorn production, I believe.

        • Brett Hunan

This site hasn’t really changed much, aside from the number of trolls that spring up every so often. If you look at the past 25 stories on chinaSMACK, you will see that the operators still very much translate popular Chinese news, like they did this article. I never set up a Weibo account so I don’t know how many hits this story got, but it must have been one of the more commented stories recently. So to answer your original question; yes, this is most likely one of the biggest stories on teh Chinese interwebs at the moment.

One thing you have to take into consideration before posting that a story sucks, is the author who translated it. Peter Barefoot usually translates common interest pieces. Sometimes they are deemed interesting, sometimes not so much. But he follows the chinaSMACK standard of posting what’s currently “hot news”. chinaSMACK isn’t just about “important stories”, never has been. Most regular visitors probably wouldn’t read as much if there weren’t pleasure pieces thrown in the mix.

Don’t just criticize the site because you don’t like which story they translated, if you are going to criticize anyone about that, take it up with the Chinese netizens to start commenting on the “important stuff”…. or the stuff you deem important.

          • Young Man

I’m not impinging on anyone’s sexuality,
I’m not criticizing the standard of translation,
Nor am I criticizing the journalistic skills of the writers,

I’m criticizing the editorial proceedures that chooses this story as the most significant one in China today- it’s not; we live in China and we know it’s not. This site is supposed to give us an impression of what Chinese people are saying on the internet and most of them are not talking about a gaudy statue in Turkmenistan.

Perhaps it has something to do with internet censorship, I’ll grant you, but this is no the most talked about story in China recently.

As I say- I’m entitled to my opinion and I’m entitled to air it clearly and without personal insults, which I have not indulged in. Chinasmack is also entitled to ban my account, although I guess that would prove many of my suspicions about how this site remains ‘unharmonized’ in the current environment in China.

          • anon

They never said the post of the day is the most significant one in China today. Those of us who read a lot of Chinese news know that chinaSMACK is as often late to a story as they are early, and sometimes they miss a “big” story entirely.

Did you read Fauna’s big blubbery thank you piece when she announced indoBOOM? This site is run by a handful of people doing it in their spare time. Maybe they didn’t have time, maybe they just didn’t see it (they can’t see everything on the massive online Chinese world at once), and maybe sometimes they just want to translate this instead of that. And they still publish daily, for free, especially for anyone using Ad Block. Knowing all this, how do you not feel bad for being so demanding?

While all of chinaSMACK’s posts are “popular”, not all of them were THE MOST POPULAR of the moment. Remember when they did those Chinese People’s Secrets posts? A series like the Jokes and Songs posts? It’s their thing, someone wants to translate them and they keep doing it because I imagine enough people appreciate them. This site has always straddled popularity and translation. The founder herself started with the motivation of practicing her English. You can bet she has no problems catering to those people who enjoy the translations of jokes and songs to learn Chinese (or English).

Cut them some slack. Have there been LESS of there non-Jokes and Songs posts? Not by my count. You might think this post is pointless but they’ve always had these kinds of posts thrown in. chinaSMACK gets positively depressing or infuriating when it posts too many serious posts in a row.

But the biggest thing is, why are you subjugating yourself to posts you don’t like? Just skip over them. It’s not like they trick you into reading the Jokes and Songs posts. There’s no bait and switching going on. You’re still getting the same amount of the posts you like but they’re putting out some more stuff that interests other readers. What does this site get? Like 50k visitors a day? You’re just one of them.

Your censorship conspiracy is boring. How many times has chinaSMACK posted stuff that was censored? You don’t remember the (this post is no longer available) notes? This site however has always said it doesn’t go for the political, if that’s what you want to see more of. Frankly, I think it has gotten more political than it was in the past, but don’t you get enough of that from all of the other English blogs?

I wouldn’t say you haven’t indulged in personal insults. Your sarcasm is rude and insulting, to the translator of this post, to Fauna, and to everyone else who puts in their free time to provide this site to you without asking you to pay for their labor. Have your parents never taught you to be gracious when receiving gifts? And how arrogant must you be to think being banned says anything about censorship? You never had a right to say whatever you want on someone else’s website. You’re allowed to comment on here like the rest of us by their pleasure. They can rescind that privilege whenever they want and would be fully within their rights to do so, or would you open your home up to strangers to shit as they please?

          • Brett Hunan

Louis Vuitton made their name with the large logo Noe bag and the log Catchall bags.

They were rubberized canvas, with leather trim. When they brought out the Epi line they started doing full leather.

          • linette

I like the LV monogram and damier line. They are vinyl and also the cheapest. But they are still too expensive for me to justify why I should spend US$800 a bag. No leather bag is worth that much money neither. No way.

personally, it is so ugly. the level of appreciation of the beauty should be enhanced.

    • Matt smith

I think what makes it really ugly is that it doesn’t seem to fit very well with its surroundings. I have seen places in China where a statue in this style (cartoony, I would say) would actually fit quite well, but this place doesn’t seem to be on of those. It’s a real shame because that particular spot is a ripe place to put a wonderful statue, just this isn’t the right statue for the job. Maybe they could airlift it into a cavern in the mountains, give it a proper burial?

      • Gontraf

I like your airlifting idea, and there just happens to be a couple of vacant caves in the Bamyan valley.

      • Biao Ma

You are right, probably, like you said, it doesn’t seem to fit this place. but look this dump, slack-jawed look on her face. I am petty sure that there are no flying fairies like her on the Murals of flying. yeah, not fit very well with its surroundings.

I just call it people trying to live their lives. But then again most Westerners can’t imagine Chinese people not having some evil communist godless underhanded agenda to take over all land surrounding China, slowly creeping over to take over the world.

        • Brett Hunan

How can you say you are interested in China and popular Chinese news and make comments like this? ….unless you are only interested in stories that paint China in a bad light.

    • Pagan settlers engraved huge penises complete with bollocks in the side of England’s hills, which are still there to this day. I never noticed in the history books that prudish Christians tried to erase such dramatically sexual imagery.

  • Peye

Beautiful or not so beautiful, the important part is, people wil notice and remember her.

  • Getrealson

That’ll piss the muslims off! Anyway I think it looks btter than some over-pruned, rope bound leafless tree with a collection of human turds at the base. Also, many countries have cheesy statues that attract tourists so you never know, with chinese peoples tendancies to take photoes of the most trivial or uninteresting things and the fact its different may be what this street needs.

  • Harland

She has a pretty nice rack. All-natural, the way God intended. One of the nice things about China is how the fake titty trend really hasn’t taken off.

    • GodsHammer

You must be either a) in a tier 2 city… or b) a dude who doesn’t have a large sample of world titties to compare when he encounters a set of modernized ‘funbags’.

      • Harland

Hey, what can I say – Shanghai and Beijing are useful prisons for foreign idiots, foreign trash, and foreign complainers. It’s bliss out here. Please never move outside your big city, it will ruin it for the rest of us. Preferring fake titties? Eww.

  • don

This reminds me strongly of all the figures in the long-gone ‘Tiger Balm Garden’ of Hong Kong.

  • Capt. WED

    This has to a troll

  • YaoGalau

Well, the statue isn’t so terrible, yet not charming.
    It so-so..
Don’t condemn it too much, give some face to the designer = ̄ω ̄=

  • Dat Ankle

… It looks like a paper mache. Exactly how much money did they put to making this?

    • bigj

      yeah it looks cheap…..

  • jeffli

    Ugly sculptures in China?
Have a look at the silly flowers on Yanan rd. near Changning or Hongqiao in Shanghai.
    That is Ugly and stoopid.

Regarding Apsara, awww…… let the minorities have a lil’ inspiration.

    • Jennster

middle of changning-minghang (yan’an rd) district? wow that’s where my mum’s apartment is at.

  • diverdude

    tres gauche…

what in the world is she pointing at ?

  • Cleo

If we are prettier than our neighbors, then Japan would more easily find collaborators and we would really be ringed in. That is why the Rhythmic Gymnasts are all our non_Nazi, non-Japanese neighbors even though that is definitely our original cultural heritage repackaged as a sport.

As long as there are too many of us i.e. hundreds of million if not billions who do not have characters trained to successfully navigate the world outside of our private universe, this is the way it has to be.

    • I pride myself on my Chinglish ability, but… Say what?

    • opinionater

surely THIS has to be the best comment ever?

    • mr. wiener

      Cleo, stop taking drugs.

      • linette

wiener, nobody understands Cleo because Cleo is using a very bad internet translate program. She/He needs to find a better translate program. But I think Cleo doesn’t want us to understand him neither. haaha..

  • sern

Well at least you can probably build a miniature golf course around it

  • vince

One things for sure, she’s a hulkamaniac

  • Dr SUN

Commissioned by top officials, Total cost 600,000,000,000

Built by migrant workers ( they never paid though) out of chicken wire, carpet and paper mache.
    Painted by Middle school students.

    It was a bargain…come on !!

  • chaofan

Who cares? Look at that blue sky!!!!! Get me out of Beijing!

    • Brett Hunan

Actually, from what Ive heard, Urumqi is worse than Beijing (or at least the same) in the winter. However, when I travelled there in ’08 (a year after it was voted one of the most polluted cities in the world), it was beautiful for 5 days straight.

Maybe try Lugu Lake in Yunnan/Sichuan. I have never seen more beautiful skies. Although it takes 13 hours by bus (8 seat van packed with 13) from Kunming.

      • eattot

yes,its very beautiful lake,u can see white tiny flowers from the bottom of the lake….
i am from yun nan, a small town named yi liang very close to kunming…
by the way, your the most good-looking man on this site maybe, hahaha!

        • Alain

Yunnan is a nice place eattot. Especially some of the minority, or min zu girls.

But as you are saying which western guy is good looking, can we also put our photos here?

          • eattot

            u look like a loser anyway…
men over 40 really hard to be handsome any more.

          • Brett Hunan

            Hahaha!!

          • eattot Just because a Western guy is a flabby-eared 60 year old CEO, doesn’t mean his kids will be butt-ugly, or his spermatozoa are out-of-date! You have a preference for 20-40 y/o guys. In SG / HK / US / EU, Oriental female diaspora 20-40 love white CEOs who are 40-80 years old. Just sayin’.

          • eattot

im not looking for a grandpa to take care or buy me dildo…not for me…..
i like young guys can not change.even in subway when it’s crowded,i like to stick to young guys, touch them in a subtal way.yes, that’s me…
my ex is younger than me,most chinese guys chased me are younger than me…and my bf never ever loved anyone before me,he always nice to me,never ever say a curse to me.
old men sucks…either play game for sex or can not get hard any more…if he is rich and gernerous then it’s another story, but most are divorced broke ass.

          • eattot Superb response. I would just say that 40-80 year old men can get erect without Viagra, if they are presented with a beautiful woman from the East, and have refrained from consuming ten bottles of lager-beer. Cheers and have a great day!

          • linette

            …………even in subway when it’s crowded,i like to stick to young guys,touch them in a subtal way.yes, that’s me……….

            Wow eattot…what a woman.

          • Linette Eattot needs to stay away from Scotland. I can see this Chinese woman taking covert up-kilt shots of young Caucasian men on escalators. This woman is wild. All that Communist repression is being released like pressure from a sealed vessel.

          • Nanny Hiccups

hehe @ eattot, that was hardcore.

          • Middle Kingdum

I suspect she’s full of shit. Probably a little wannabe.

          • eattot

hahaha,do not take it too serious.
i am going home soon, wont be here any more till hold wedding.

        • eattot

fuck off, sob!u should ask ur mom.

          • jeffli

I like that one! hehe good response, I use it a lot myself actually
“your mommas on the top of my list to do things” – its a song title very funny here goes:

I see you in your office
            Sending and receiving checks
But I know the quest for money
Comes from a quest for sex
So I cut to the chase
            And forgot about my job
And decided to stay home wit yo mama on my knob

I can see you laughing so I guess you think its funny
But while your getting drunk, I’ve been getting honey
And by tomorrow night youll be hungover and sick
But I’ll be at my home wit you mama on my dick

            (Chorus)
Your mama’s on the top of my things to do list
Your mama’s on the top of my things to do list
Your mama’s on the top of my things to do list
Your mama’s on the top of my things to do list

            Thinking your the man
            Well I am bringing news
Our manhoods being measured by the women that we choose
And you can’t earn respect if all you ever pick is sluts
So I’ll be staying home to let yo mama suck my nuts

            (Chorus)

            (Rap)
Eat more fruit, Plant more trees
Learn to shoot, travel over seas
Wash the dog, read a book
Find three chinese recipes to cook
Learn to waltz, and speak maltese
Ferment to invent a better feta cheese
The highest they get is number two
Coz number one on my list of things to do
            is yo maaaammmmaaaaa,
            yo maaaaammmmaaaa
            yo maaaammmaaa

            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top
            She’s always on top

            (disco)
In my dream I was a cop and I stopped to arrest her
Never met a whore more hardcore so I frisked her
Steamed up the Beamer and needed the demister
When she licked my colon cleaner than a clyster
Got another blister from playing naked twister
Raw on the floor with ya mama and ya sister
Hadn’t even kissed but she still let me fist her
I let her drive home pissed and said
            Asta la vista Baby

        • Alain

That’s done it makoto! You’ve invoked the wrath of the masked one!

      • Alain

@ Eattot: Actually, I am 35, and that photo in my avatar is not me.

But keep second guessing all you like, and btw, using the F word is not very polite nor ladylike is it? Just saying, it is not very becoming of you?

      • cc

eattot, my offer of spurting hot jizz all over your boat still stands, I’ll meet you in Shanghai at Pudong airport.

        • cc If you’re an expatriate teacher of English, I trust “jizz” and “spurt” are part of your teachings?

          • cc

        My condolences Eattot.

        • eattot

          i remeber u said ur in kunming,right?
i am going back home soon…..what u do there? quite some foreigners there, but most are students or traverllers.
i remember once i went to stone forest for their festival saw a very very very pretty white man, tall and slim, pure sunflower colored currrly long hair, tiny face, big blue eyes, tiny and high nose…i really never saw such a pretty man before that….
and after that i never saw a white guy has that color of hair, just like a fairy.

          • Nanny Hiccups

i think a man who looks like that is exotic in a country where everyone has dark colored hair. i generally find men who are blonde haired with blue eyes unattractive. a white guy with dark hair and mediterranean looks (like a handsome italian or greek and sometimes french) are generally more attractive to me. Otherwise, I prefer a much darker man.

          • Jennster

im recently obsessed with northeastern chinese guys especially from liaoning province (dalian specifically) because they have great physiques (good skin and pale, tall, handsome etc) from those ive observed. Lots of chinese observe this also, especially from that region. i heard there are many manchurians there like 2 million…anyway regarding white guys…i love the blue eyes brown mix O_____O

          • Jennster

Heap big woman you done made a big man of me!
            Now get this!

            God Bless Freddy Mercury!!!

          • Jennster

lol there are a lot of that type if you go to any white country, especially european ones. most chinese in china think an ugly or average white is good looking because they don’t see a lot of good looking ones in china.

          • Jeffli

            @Jennster
like-wise Jennster its also visa versa

  • k

I know how they should solve this ugly woman statue problem…..the chinese gov should send the statue to south korea for plastic surgeries and when she comes back she will be more euroasian and less on the asiany part.

    • k

      _(≥▽≤)/ (^_^) (━_┳) (@_@) ($_$)

    • linette

This statue does look like it needs plastic surgery. hahhaa…

You know k, plastic surgery is really not a culture in places in China, Taiwan, or Hk. 99% of the young Chinese never had plastic surgery. Only the old Chinese women. Or maybe some celebrities, but most of them are natural with nice make up. Chinese don’t need that double eye lids to change the shape of their eyes. The pretty Chinese usually have big almond shape eyes with double lids. Their face are more narrow many have natural oval or pointy shape face. Chinese have light or tan skin. So plastic surgery is really not a Chinese culture like the south korea where 80% of the young koreans already had some small plastic surgery done already. It’s south koreans culture. It’s common for them to get double eyelids and bleached white skin.

      • Linette I feel a little sorry for those obsessed with skin-bleaching. One degree N of the equator, both local SE Asian guys and expats (Caucasian, Indian, Afro-Caribbean) have a preference for tanned women. Sometimes I get the impression that the three biggest industries in S Korea are:

        1. Ssangyong motors.
        2. Samsung electronics.
        3. Skin-bleaching industry.

A little sad. Give me a tan on a woman any day.

        • linette

Those cosmetic procedures skin bleaching can’t be good for skin.
I don’t care for the color. The most important is wrinkles free. :)
I like looking tan too in the summer for mini skirts. Tan legs look nicer than pale chicken legs. :) I use jergen natural glow lotion to give a nice tan look in the summer. I never abuse my skin in UV lights.

          • Linette It would be true to say that the Oriental diaspora on the equator are somewhere between golden and bronzed. Mediterranean skin on Oriental frame and face – and I will not quote sources – causes men’s testosterone levels to rise so quickly that their whole head is quickly marinated to such levels that they have to be a hard-core homosexual not to be excited at such great looks. Oh, and with all the trees and skyscrapers, there is plenty of shade to prevent wrinkling. Thus plenty of MILFs / yummy mummies… (The same could be said for HK thru to Ho Chi Minh City, of course. One day an expat has to make a choice who to marry…)

        • Jeffli

dark gold coloured skin on a nubile 25 year old Chinese lady with big nipples! oOoOoH yeah like that chinese actres from Sichuan now in holly wood always showing her nipplies! Whats her name?

      • Nanny Hiccups

i hate to say this but the double eye-lid thing is really irritating. why is it so important? we already know why the skin bleaching thing is important, which is just pathetic.

        • k

I tried skin bleaching products for the hell of it whn i was in korea…granted i am naturally about as fair skin as fair skin comes…i wear 01 in alabaster from clinque…i quite after a few weeks due to it actually making me look so pale i looked deathly sick…i mean like if u have discoloration from freckles or acne blemishes, it does help to make them fade and it does look better. But to change an entire skin color…well my daughter has her daddy’s korean olive tone and i would be absolutely furious if she thought her skin color wasnt as pretty as a lighter skin color…i alrdy get compliments on how beautiful her olive tone is.

          • linette

K..East Asians the ones that have light skin still have like a yellow tone. Caucasians have like a red tone. When I buy foundation I use I40 shiseido foundation. It’s like a bone color to blend in with my natural skin color. But it’s not reddish white.

I will never use any skin bleach products or procedures. Can’t be good for skin. Some may have mecury. Some have hydroquinone. The cosmetic procedures in surgeon office to lighten skin tone can’t be good either.

          • Nanny Hiccups

koreans dont look olive to me. men from the mediterrean do, or maybe some greeks/italians but korean people already look very pale to me and not dark at all. but i have only seen south koreans in america and no where else so i don’t know for sure. but you are doing the right thing teaching your daughter to value the gift you and her father gave her.

          • eattot

now i use one named methode swiss, i like it very much,it’s very mild,no any bad effect.and u can feel your skin is a bit whiter, not very strong that make your face whiter than you neck or body.very safe.

          • linette

Nanny, East Asians Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans all have different colors among their own people. Some are very pale and some are olive.

          • linette

eattot..are you sure there is no mercury in it?? Vit C don’t stay stable for long enough time in any lotion in order to effectively bleach your skin. Anyway……Maybe I should use some bleaching lotion. But then I might look like a ghost. haahahha..

          • eattot

guess not, this brand is not that cheap, much expensive than those normal brands in malls, and i believe swiss made,i bought from sasa.

          • Jeffli

+++K..East Asians the ones that have light skin still have like a yellow tone. Caucasians have like a red tone. +++
I know an easy way to get that rosy look! – a little bit bit of hanky panky leading to spanking! I could turn anyones yellow butt rose pink!

        • linette

hahhaa…nanny. I find it irritating too. I don’t care for it neither. But apparently it’s a big deal among South koreans. The south korean mothers urge their young daughters to get double lids done as young as 12 year old. They give plastic surgery for birthday presents or graduation presents. I am not kidding. :(

oh…look at this. I was watching some videos and came across this. wow…..I’ve never seen this before.

          • Haha… I think you’re testing me here. What you see there is a nation’s submarine, using its torpedo, to destroy a decommissioned frigate for practice. Not too sure whether the sub and torp are Indian (unlikel) or whether the scrap ship is Chinese (unlikely). It’s real footage but the heading is just fabricated in my opinion……

          • linette

richardnorth..really? I don’t know. I was watching some hk videos and came across this. I was like wow………

          • More like an Al Qaeda promotional. The empty disused ship was pre-laden with explosives. No single torpedo can cause immediate longitudinal breakage of a 4,500 tonne vessel. Take it with a pinch of salt. The whole thing is real in looks, but spoofy in its suggestions.

          • linette

……No single torpedo can cause immediate longitudinal breakage of a 4,500 tonne vessel……….

I was so shocked too. One torpedo and the whole ship destroyed.

          • Nanny Hiccups

Hey, i saw that video. but someone in the comments section said that the video ws not really an india sub shooting a chinese ship, but austrailian doing some testing. i think something like that would have made major news networks.

          • Dr SUN

            you don’t know eattot ?

      • k

Linette, i agree that most chinese do not get ps because most probably cant afford it…just like in korea where there are still many koreans who cant afford it..pretty aint cheap. I was poking fun at the articles on how chinese compose alot of the foreign plastic surgery patients coming into Korea, as well as the Korean claim that Chinese drive up their ps statistics and make them look bad for it. I was also poking fun at how the chinese netizens lambaster a statue of a very ethnic looking chinese woman as “ugly” when she really isnt ugly, she just doesnt look like the plastic surgery faces that they see on tv. I tease cause its an issue that seems to make its way into many discussions (^_^) (━_┳) ㅠ.ㅠ (O_O)

K, how much they charge for complete nose job I am just wondering ? I know cheek bone or jaw bones reductions is around Us$5000 everything included. My friend got it done.(She is not Chinese.) I think double eyelids surgery is very cheap…for few hundred bucks. I am sure foreigners also drives up the percentage of ps in south korea.

I think the Chinese are just complaining why pick an ugly looking ethnic Chinese woman to make a statue out of, instead of picking a nice looking ethnic Chinese woman. They can just make the statue look more like shu qi. It’s like the American is making a statue looking like Rosie O’Donnell instead of Ann Hathaway.

          • k

im not sure….u gotta remember that usa plastic surgeey is more expensive then korean plastic surgery….i think a nose job here is between $2,000-5,000 usd…i have no idea about eyelid and jaw surgery, its not something i even knew existed until i went to korea…they arent white people surgeries generally. your boring as fuck.

          • Nanny Hiccups

I don’t think she feels that way personally because her daughter ishalf- asian. but she is in a society where her features are desired/coveted. that must be very surreal.

          • eattot

then i get nothing to say any more, u know the reason directly…
            doing nothing everyday,and ….no more.

          • Dr SUN

I for one like Chinese woman with Chinese looking eyes, never been attracted to round eyes.

            that’s just me though.

          • eattot

your not asian, who is the man on your avatar?

          • eattot

i like normal size eyes, long and slim also very nice.
i dislike men with huge eyes, but my bf his eyes is very big and blue…big eyes for women works, but for men,no!
my favorite two actors :ethan hawke, james d’arcy, omg, once watch their films,i get so excited.and they look so similar.they all have long slim eyes.
they say how great jude law looks, but never for me.i do not wanna see any films of him.

          • Capt. WED

your not asian, who is the man on your avatar?

            Sums up this website…

          • The Enlightened One

eattot, you ask Dr. Sun who is the man in his avatar and then tell K to go read a book?

            Oh, the irony… the irony!

          • Nanny Hiccups

Ethan Hawke has strange teeth. They’re a little crooked. I love a man with a great smile Don’t mind crooked teeth but the smile has to be great.

there are a lot of hollywood cuties. jude law is getting better with age. I always thought robert downy jr is pretty good looking. Maybe will smith, or keanu reeves or idris elba. im trying to think of which man is the most beautiful but can’t think of any at the moment i probably just named them.

          • linette

Nanny Hiccups…K is in South Korea. The South Koreans get plastic surgery to get K’s look. They don’t like their korean face. They like caucasian face.
I think what eattot is saying Chinese don’t like K or Ann Hathaway look. They consider it too sharp. Chinese people prefer softer facial features like natural beauty Li bing bing or fala chen.

            wait…..

elizabeth taylor, Cindy Crawford, li bing bing, Fala chen, angelababy…..
Ooooh, all the most stunning women in the world are February Pisces. ;)

  • thunder struck

i dont get it minus the white skin thats how most chinese women look,if its ugly are chinese women also ugly. the same eyes the same face structure.i guess being paper white makes it look ugly.

    • k

Well thats the point of my joke…asians hating on how asian they look..

    • thunder struck Look carefully and you’ll see that most Chinese women’s teeth are different to Caucasians, never mind chin, lips, nose, cheekbones, hair, neck and many other places. Any troll who disagrees needs to wake up sober next to one or two E or SE Asian girlfriends and intensely examine coordinates and features against a cut-out of a few Caucasian women. Maybe use your iPad.

HAHA all the tacky shit I see around here and you want to comment on this statue? How about the fact that every supposedly high class restaurant has the exact same style, every KTV is exactly the same tacky design, and apartment buildings (unless they are designed by foreign experts on internships) are the same style, misuse space, and are of the same shoddy quality. I’d say that this statue should be the least of people’s worries. The concern should be who’s useless cousin was given a job to design the city’s landscape and how much of the money was embezzled. Demand the quality you paid for.

  • Lakeman

the statue doesn’t look too good, just my opinion.
