August 18th afternoon, owing to “Cherish Life, Care for Family” pledge events organized by Foxconn’s union at various Mainland China campuses, a large-scale event was held at the Shenzhen factory campus, the second time open to the media, with tens of thousands of people holding a parade at the factory campus.

Foxconn’s Taiyuan [Shanxi province] factory already held a mass pledge rally on the 16th, dismantling the previously installed safety netting. However, other than the Taiyuan factory campus, all the other mainland factory campuses including Shenzhen will not immediately dismantle their safety nets following the pledge rallies.

Disgusting!

网易广西贵港网友:

Actually, Foxconn is already doing a lot, and is more conscientious than many many factories.

网易广东佛山网友:

The “Grandpa Guo, you’ve worked hard” and “Chairman, we will always support Foxconn” red calligraphy in the third photograph reminds me of the suicide incidents that happened here.
But, I still hope that all of Foxconn’s employees can be healthy and happy!

网易火星网友:

One word: Disgusting.
Shouting such grandiose slogans!
More practical: More benefits, less overtime,
more activities and exchange, less bullying and overbearing,
and people will surely live in work in peace!!

网易广东深圳网友:

A few of the factories girls are not bad.

网易欧洲网友:

Are all Foxconn girls this pretty?

网易火星网友:

So fake, hurry and come see, so fake, Guo Taiming [Terry Guo] is making a sham again.

网易北京网友:

A bunch of mental retards playing a game.

网易四川成都网友:

I’m reminded of those unpublicized black brick kilns and etc…sigh…

网易天津网友:

The whole thing is like the Cultural Revolution, all fake. Can this give them long term stability/peace? Look, there isn’t a single old employee. Do they even have a future?

20,000 Foxconn employees parade as if it were Carnival, pledge to cherish life

Summary: Yesterday afternoon, at the Foxconn Longhua Campus in Shenzhen City, 20,000 employees participated in their “Carnival”. This unprecedented mass event, proposed by Foxconn employees and organized by Foxconn’s trade union, had “cherish life, care for family” as its main theme. Through a series of events/activities, Foxconn’s union hopes that every employee will become aware of the value of life, and that suicide is a kind of selfish and cowardly act…

Too ridiculous! Truly a bunch of things worse than pigs and dogs. With so many of their own coworkers dead, a company run by a bunch of hooligans and ruffians, and they’re still happy. Truly sad!

搜狐社区:

Disguised corporate propaganda. Chinese people are so easy to fool. Those suicide jumpers truly died in vain. Sad.

搜狐社区:

Everyone, don’t be surprised! The girl’s slogan was not finished. It should be: “Grandpa Guo, you’ve worked hard in bed!”

搜狐社区:

Cherish life, stay far away from the factory!

搜狐广东省佛山市网友

The event/activity itself is no cause for criticism. But against a backdrop of successive suicides, not only are they not deeply reflecting upon the company’s responsibility, they’re here celebrating? Are they still human?! The [company] leadership should supervise the company’s self-reflection and self-examination!

搜狐社区:

Truly pathetic! The boss spends money to have the union put on a show, the helpless employees have no choice but to play along, the entire scene a complete farce!

搜狐社区:

You call him Grandpa Guo and he laughs behind your back [asking] “Am I that old? My girlfriend is about your age!”

搜狐手机网友:

Those above, if you don’t understand Foxconn, don’t blindly say things. Foxconn is actually a pretty good company, much better than certain mainland companies, its management very standardized. I’ve worked at Foxconn for 13 years, and truly feel Foxconn is pretty good.

hm-m-m, I guess you will win for sure.
I was the first one to enter my comment this morning. And I didn’t see yours. Not before, not after I entered mine.
But, miraculously, now I see that you entered yours 6 minutes before me!
Wow, so I was entering mine from another Universe or something :)

Don’t worry, i would be the first to enter mine now. Lets see.

They should have started these rallies long time ago.

They just need to wait for a space ship to come and take them to a nice asteroid where they can be safe whilst the earth is purged of all non-guoformists.

What a paradise they will have. Oh look a little elf.

Those colorful horizontal banners are so heavy handedly-photo-shopped I swear I can see the river crab swimming happily underneath.

The third last picture in the entire set is my favorite along with the one before it. It looks like they ran out of T-shirts and all they had to wear was their own weary faces.

  • jeff

Replace company with government and you’ll realize the whole world is definitely wrong. This is reality bro. This shit works with the masses, whether we like it or not.

  • http://www.foarp.blogspot.com FOARP

Shit, I got to know some of the PR people at Foxconn when I worked there back in 2006-7. Most of them were engineers who had simply no understanding of how to create a good impression and had simply lucked into their PR role through impressing Terry Guo (or being useless in their original posting). Most were in it simply so that they could avoid their Taiwanese wives and have their pick of the girls used in photo-shoots etc.

This is exactly the kind of retarded shit they would think would impress the media. Instead it creates exactly the opposite impression, at least to foreign eyes, as it is very reminiscent of cultural revolution/North Korea type mass games, which people automatically associate with brainwashed misery.

The truth is, though, that Foxconn really isn’t that bad. The suicides are sad, sad events, and everything should be done to prevent further deaths, but blaming Foxconn won’t help. Foxconn really isn’t any worse than any other firm operating in China, and is, in fact, better than most.

  • bando

I’m surprised that a union even existed in the chinese workplace. Wasn’t it, “If you don’t like working here, you can find another job while someone else more grateful can take yours”

  • bando

In the first photo on the top, the faces don’t look too happy either.

  • jigsawlgoic

The would have been funnier as an “I promise not to eat my own shit” parade.

After seeing this, one thing’s for certain: Only China could pull it off.

  • Of Canada

What kind of union is that? A real workers union would be pushing to solve the suicide problem by fighting the company for better working environment through collective bargaining.. . not by throwing a feel good propaganda party funded by the company president. Glad to see most Chinese commentators also get it.

  • hai

    lets see now..

    i know foxxconn, honest..
foxxconn is better than most other factories..

now if I only knew some foxxconn PR people, then I could buy that silver hatstand I always wanted.

I dont know about that last bit. Since the natural inclination is to be horrifically afraid of death.
