[怒] While bullying and robbery can be found in every country… At present, Chicago police are already investigating this matter.

12/01/18 UPDATE: An edited copy on popular Chinese video sharing website Youku that currently has nearly 1 million views and over 9000 comments over 300 pages since it was uploaded 1 day ago.

The above microblog post featuring the above video was posted just after 5pm today. In less than 4 hours, it has been forwarded over 2200 times and has nearly 900 comments. It is not “viral” by Chinese internet standards (yet?) but as requested, below are a selection of the Chinese netizen reactions and comments. Please note that in addition to the comments below, many comments expressed disbelief, outrage, and strong condemnation of the attackers.

The 7 kids are just getting their revenge.             Well, excepting the fact that Just John is simply making the point that responding to violence with more violence is morally suspect, what makes that statement dumb isn’t that North Korea isn’t capable of making a working nuke (the world believes it already has but just hasn’t yet weaponized it in the conventional sense of making it easily deliverable to targets), its that China has to buy nuclear weapons from North Korea at all. China has its own nuclear arsenal and capability. It doesn’t need North Korea.

          If you go read the hundreds now thousands of original Chinese comments, I think there are actually more comments assuming the kid is the son of some corrupt Chinese official and therefore its somehow deserved and karmic justice that he gets his ass beat.

          Right, IF you looked at it from the point of view of it involving Asian on Asian violence. The reason why there are accusations of racism is because a lot of people didn’t actually know that some of the attackers were ethnically Asian as well. A lot of people thought it was a group of white kids beating up a poor Asian kid, because that was the information that was attached to a lot of the copies of the video that went around.

          If you read through the Chinese netizen comments, you’ll notice that people later come in pointing out that it was discovered that some of the attackers are Chinese too. The original poster didn’t mention that, perhaps because he didn’t know, like most people didn’t initially. Even with people later commenting that some of the attackers were Chinese too, you have people who don’t actually read other people’s comments or go out of their way to find more information, so some accusations of racism will continue until those people learn more details.

          You have the benefit of knowing more information that they did. The Chinese comments on Weibo actually aren’t very different from the comments on YouTube or Twitter.

            a few days ago, people called some dead US soldiers either american or chinese, depending how it serves their own personal opinion about it. Now this are asian kids beating an asian kid, so how we will call this kids now which are american citizens ? asians ? chinese american ? abc’s ? does that really matter ? this happens anywhere and everywhere in the world. When no minorities are present then the majority would starts to separate amongst each others too, thats what humans do, like i used to say, still more monkey then any of the monkeys.

            This chinese student took a beating, he is alive, the shots he took were weak, otherwise how he could run away so fast. He will learn his lesson and should learn to defend his self and work on his self-confidence. The kids which beat him will be ID and get their punishment, in hope that they will learn their lesson too.

            Thats the problem with integration, everyone seems to expect it from immigrants, but even they do integrate, find work, pay taxes, get their american citizenship and passport, they will still and always be reduced as a mexican, nigger or chinese in the eyes of many, even in the eyes of each others. The outlook of the attacking american citizens which look chinese, is enough for some to call them chinese. Well they didn’t do the things they did cause they were chinese or looked like chinese. Since this is a world wide phenomenon we can’t reduce it to races and nationalities.

            Integration is an interesting things, in the eyes of people you will always be what they want to see in you out of their own ignorance, it doesn’t matter how much effort you put into to become worthy to be accepted by the so called “society”. The ones which are strong enough with a strong character and personality can live with that and keep moving forward, cause they know that you can never keep a good men down. But the majority of them most likely can’t handle, so out of their own weakness they look for their own and separate themselves more and more from the society and form parallel societies within their own ethnicity, seeing themselves (even they ARE citizens of another country) as chinese, mexican, korean, palestinian or whatever……in europe its the same story, not many foreigners (in fact citizens) would call themselves german or french or british….especially people from middle east and arab countries…as dumber they are as more they isolate from society even its just for the sake to be different then the locals, seems kinda cool to them. Its weakness, nothing else.     I could not watch it, even the gif image was too much for me. I cannot stand to watch people suffer. I was born in Chicago, and let me tell you. The kids there kill each other. Chicago had more murders in a year than soldiers killed in Iraq. I was born there, but I won’t even visit that place now, it just feels evil. If you look up the name Dereon Albert, a 16 year old was beaten to death and his beating/murder was caught on video by kids. Poor kid was just trying to get home from school. So this kid should consider himself lucky to be alive. If you go to ChicagoBreakingNews web site you will see more terrible violence. Chicago is probably the worst city in America and most of the crime comes from kids and drug dealers. The crimes there are against man, woman, child, white, black, asian, latino. It is ROUGH. Which is a shame because it’s also a fun place if not for the violence.

    As for the evil people saying the child deserved to be beaten, shame on you! That child never asked to be born, he never asked his parents to relocate him to America so why wish him harm?

Chicago is one of the only cities in america that is still segregated. whites live with whites on the north side (which is still a little diverse), asians live in china town. arabs live in their own section, greeks have theirs, blacks have the south side… bridgeport is bad area where white people routinely attack minorities who are seen alone there. i remember one case of a 13 year old boy beaten so severely that he had permanent brain damage and handicapps, he was beaten by several boys.

          Nigga has become a word used by many young people due to its overuse in rap and hip hop music. Though it still has racial connotation if said to a black person, it is tossed around like bitch or other swears.

          American neighborhoods are not diverse at all. Even within a neighborhood, different ethic groups are in one section. There are demographic maps of places like NYC, broken out by race. There’s “diversity” where the borders meet, but many areas are dominated by a single race. Usually diversity is forced by government policy, without it there would be less interaction.

          Racial violence is common, but most typical is black/hispanic violence due to gangs. There was a phase of “chink bashing” where blacks were beating Asians for awhile in NYC, but I haven’t heard about it for a few years.

          America is probably less racist than other countries due to propaganda efforts. The difference is that America has all races side-by-side, so there are incidents and also experienced based racism. (Such as Koreans in LA versus blacks…) Most other countries have a single race, or if more than one, there’s often a history of violence (Southeast Asian attacks on Chinese, European attacks on Jews). Also, sometimes there is one race because the existing one wiped out the other.

    What’s really sad about this episode is not racism per se but that it is an indication that humankind as a whole, all around the world, has gone another rung down the pits.

    I don’t think the kids realized the gravity of their actions or words they say. Beating someone up to solve problems has become a norm. That’s all they know, perhaps. Reasoning and communication, achieving goals through ‘legitimate’ means and working for what they want, seem almost alien to many kids nowadays.

    I would venture to say that they have not been taught how to handle conflicts and challenges, not only the poor but especially rich mollycoddled ones who have everything handed to them on a silver platter. They do not have any chance to learn how to take care of themselves, so when things get tough, they use the only weapon they know at their disposal – primitive survival methods – the fist instead of their brains.

    It used to be that the word ‘nigger’ and cheating were frowned upon. Now, these youngsters are using it without even knowing what it means or they are literally colorblind. And why do they even feel it is justified to retaliate when they have been exposed for cheating?

    Two words – parenting and education. These seriously need a worldwide overhaul.

      It’s one thing to point out something they didn’t know and correct them. It’s another to accuse them of “intentionally ignoring” something. There is ignorance and then there is malice.

      On YouTube and on Twitter there were the same sort of comments assuming it was white kids beating up an Asian kid. It wasn’t until later that people started coming in and posting that some of the attackers were Asian too. Even then, unless that information was included in the video title or description, comments still poured in thinking it was white on Asian. These people didn’t “conveniently ignore” anything, they just didn’t know based on the information they had seen at the moment of commenting (remember, not everyone seeks out additional information or reads other people’s comments first before commenting, as evidenced here on this site). If you’re going to accuse Chinese nationals of that, you’d have to accuse all the Americans and everyone else who also made that assumption at first of the same thing.

      And really now, by most accounts, the average Chinese netizen looks quite admiringly at the US. I think you’re giving too much weight to the fenqing and wumao. The latter are certainly vocal but so are white supremists and yet we don’t think they represent the average white person. Keep your perspective.

      True words. Chinese all learned English racial epithet from an early age. Why? In order to not get left behind in the world-wide rat race / pecking order of the racial hierarchy.

    Typical Chinese reaction. There exists the greatest “US vs THEM” attitude here.

    First and foremost, unless I am mistaken, the boys ethnicity has still yet to be disclosed. Just because they asked “Am I speaking Chinese” does not mean HE was Chinese, just as much as them calling him a “ni-ger” makes him black.

    This is just common with Chinese… viewing this as almost an attack on the nation itself.

    Even the police have said that the beating was not racially motivated, yet you get this reaction from the Chinese… which is extremely hypocritical for the nation.

    If you ever want to see racism in its truest form, just spend some REAL time in China (not the week or two vacation while they seemingly treat you like a rock star).

      Some of you guys need to really think before making faulty assumptions.

      It wasn’t represented much in the translated comments above but there were a lot of comments on Sina Weibo asking if he was Chinese or what. There were also a lot of comments saying he was Chinese because he can be heard speaking Cantonese several times in the video.

      There’s also little evidence from the thousands of Chinese comments to suggest any meaningful amount of them see this as an attack on their nation. They at most saw it as white racism against Chinese and Asians, and it was because they didn’t yet know that some of the masked attackers were ethnically Chinese. The posted video didn’t provide that information and the only attacker whose face was revealed was a white kid.

      Do you see any evidence to suggest that these Chinese netizens were aware or have read what the Chicago police have said when they made their comments? Why do you assume they know and have read what you have? In English no less?

      Racism is terrible and there’s definitely a lot of racial discrimination in China, but comments like “typical Chinese”, ” there exists the greatest ‘us vs them’ attitude here”, “this is just common with Chinese”, “extremely hypocritical for the nation”, can be interpreted as quite racist in of itself. Any time you rush to negatively generalize a people, that’s bigotry, and that’s characterizes much of your comment.

      Wait, are you the Stormfront Kyle? I remember there was a commenter named Kyle who was from Stormfront posting on this site before.

      Chinese are just naive, not really maliciously racist. They really don’t have much experience in the world as a whole, and as soon as they really do, most wise up right away.

      I see it especially in the Japan haters. They hate Japan from the bottom of their heart, then they visit Japan for a month, come back to China, and tell everyone how Japan is awesome. All their friends call them traitors, but, hey, they’ve seen something they like better and it takes over as their dream.
